Weekend Update

Whew, what a weekend! Lets just jump right into the recap, shall we?

Friday
Norah had her 1-year immunizations in the morning. She had four pokes in total (two in each arm), but I was pleasantly surprised that she barely fussed over them! Even the nurse who administered them was amazed by how well she did. After her shots we stopped by the post office to pick up our new mail keys as a new mailbox was installed, and then we headed home.

While Norah and I were out, Kyle and Isla started on making the cupcakes for the birthday party on Saturday. Kyle had to go out and help do some landscaping in the afternoon, but by then the cupcakes were cool enough to ice.

You guys, icing those cupcakes was THE WORST. While I enjoy baking, I’m horrible at the decorating part. I started off with good intentions – I made a white chocolate buttercream icing – but as I started piping it onto the cupcakes it looked awful and only iced 8 or 9 cupcakes. I didn’t have enough icing (or patience) for the other eleventy-billion cupcakes, so it was plain vanilla buttercream icing slapped on with a butterknife. Oh well.

Saturday
Party day! In the middle of the night the “Balloon Fairy” covered Isla’s floor with balloons and surprised her when she woke up! She was SO excited and couldn’t figure out how all the balloons got there.

Kyle and I spent the morning giving the house a quick clean and doing some final food prep before Isla and Norah’s guests arrived.

In a nutshell, the girls both had a blast and were both exhausted by the end of the day, so I think the party was a huge success. They’re both so lucky to have such amazing family and friends in their lives.

Sunday
We headed out to the grocery store as a family to get the shopping done for the week and caught the Blue Jays game on TV before heading outside and enjoying some of the beautiful weather! The girls had fun playing in the yard until I had to get ready to head out for ball; they both went to my mom’s for dinner and Kyle puttered around the yard some more.

I’m pretty sure I got a bit of a sunburn while playing ball – I totally forgot to toss sunscreen into my bag. Oops! It was bloody hot outside too. We ended up losing one game and winning the other, but it was still a good time!

After ball I picked up the girls, and they both crashed out hard on the way home.

I’ll do another post with more birthday pics tomorrow ;)

How was your weekend?

Twelve Months/One Year

My goodness, Norah’s a whole year old! How did this happen?! It seems like just yesterday I was holding her in my arms, freshly born and wonderfully new. (Isn’t that always the case, though?) Wherever the time went, I’m so glad that this little lady is a part of our lives!

12 Months

So, at one year, Norah:

  • Weighs 23lbs and is 29″ long!
  • Still only has 6 teeth, but I think more are on their way since the drool has intensely increased over the past month.
  • Can walk! She’s getting really good at being upright and walks about 90% of the time. We had a feeling she’d be walking before her first birthday, and we were right!

  • Has greenish/hazel eyes. I’m not sure if they’re going to turn brown eventually or not, but my blue-eyed baby is gone :(
  • Is a copy cat, and I totally blame Isla for this one. She just wants to keep up with her big sister!
  • Hates wearing shoes and socks. Socks last longer on her feet that shoes do, but at some point in the day she in guaranteed to end up barefoot. Thankfully she doesn’t seem to mind her sister’s old padraig slippers, so those have been keeping her feet warm.
  • Is not a fan of fruit, but loves meat! Whatever meat you put in front of her, she happily gobbles right up. She’s pretty indifferent about veggies. (“Oh, a green bean? I ran out of meat so I guess I’ll eat that…”) But really, any food is great as long as it’s messy:

  • Still isn’t sleeping through the night. *sigh*
  • May be starting to have some separation anxiety, which is a major bummer. I’ve left her for a few hours during the day a couple of times and at bedtime she refuses to let go of me. She’ll fall asleep after nursing and stay asleep on my shoulder, but as soon as I try to put her in her crib she wakes up and screams and clutches onto me. Ugh. Please, let this be a phase!!

I:

Can’t believe that my baby is a year old already! I know everyone always says that “Oh, it went by SO fast” with every kid, but I swear, it went by even faster with Norah than with Isla. It’s been such a whirlwind with Norah; call it Second Child Syndrome, but everything is easier the second time around in so many ways. I felt more comfortable with my parenting skills and knew the do’s and don’ts from the get-go. That being said, I’ve learned that not every child is the same and Norah has proven to be her own little person and is so unlike her sister in so many ways. Regardless, I wouldn’t change anything for the world and Norah is still our amazing little Chunkers with a devilish grin and a zest for life! I’m definitely feeling ALL the feelings over here today.

Weekend Update

I feel like it’s been forever since I posted last. Here’s what we got up to this weekend!

Friday
We had an appointment at the bank first thing in the morning and then went to look at a couple of houses after that. (One was great, the other not so much.) In the afternoon we hung out in the yard; Kyle did some landscaping work while Isla played around, and I managed to sneak away do wrap the girls’ birthday presents.

I also made the girls’ birthday t-shirts! They’ll have matching shirts to wear during their party this weekend <3

Saturday
We had another early morning as we went and looked at another house. (A winner, in fact, but we didn’t have our offer accepted and I don’t even want to talk about it right now because I’m so cheesed about it.)

After we looked at the house, Kyle went and helped his grandpa do some work at their rental property and the girls and I went out to a baby shower. It was a lot of fun with TONS of kids; Isla had a blast playing and feeding chickens and wound up being a cranky, exhausted girl afterwards. (Too much fun and cake = Gut ache!) We had a visit with my mom before heading home for Norah’s nap, and then we headed to Kyle’s grandparents for dinner.

Isla feeding the chickens while Norah supervised ;)

Sunday
The kids were kind enough to let us sleep in a bit and the girls presented Kyle with a Father’s Day card and present! I eventually headed out to the store to get some grocery shopping done and Kyle ventured back into the yard to finish up the project he was working on.

Norah had her birthday cake smash photo session in the afternoon, so I dropped Isla off at my mom’s so we could go do that! Norah eventually had a blast during her photo session, but it started off pretty rocky – she was apprehensive at first and that turned into full-fledged tears and hysterics. The photographer was awesome and got Norah a cup of milk and that seems to solve all her problems! Her mood changed almost instantly and she got some great shots! I don’t have any photos yet, but here’s a sneak peak of the set that the photographer took.

I just loved the set – especially the little “N!”

After the session we went back down to my mom’s and hung out until I left for slo-pitch. Apparently our first game was cancelled but I didn’t find out until I was already at the field, so I chilled in the truck until my teammates showed up for the second game.

When I got home with the girls Kyle was mowing the lawn and found a frog (or maybe a toad?), so Isla was pretty excited to see that! I got her off to bed and Norah fought sleep like you wouldn’t believe, but she eventually got there. (I think she’s starting to experience separation anxiety from me. Boo.)

Now it’s Monday and we have another busy week ahead of us! Funny how the warm, summer weather brings out the workhorse inside of us ;)

How was your weekend??
