Twelve Months/One Year

My goodness, Norah’s a whole year old! How did this happen?! It seems like just yesterday I was holding her in my arms, freshly born and wonderfully new. (Isn’t that always the case, though?) Wherever the time went, I’m so glad that this little lady is a part of our lives!

12 Months

So, at one year, Norah:

  • Weighs 23lbs and is 29″ long!
  • Still only has 6 teeth, but I think more are on their way since the drool has intensely increased over the past month.
  • Can walk! She’s getting really good at being upright and walks about 90% of the time. We had a feeling she’d be walking before her first birthday, and we were right!

  • Has greenish/hazel eyes. I’m not sure if they’re going to turn brown eventually or not, but my blue-eyed baby is gone :(
  • Is a copy cat, and I totally blame Isla for this one. She just wants to keep up with her big sister!
  • Hates wearing shoes and socks. Socks last longer on her feet that shoes do, but at some point in the day she in guaranteed to end up barefoot. Thankfully she doesn’t seem to mind her sister’s old padraig slippers, so those have been keeping her feet warm.
  • Is not a fan of fruit, but loves meat! Whatever meat you put in front of her, she happily gobbles right up. She’s pretty indifferent about veggies. (“Oh, a green bean? I ran out of meat so I guess I’ll eat that…”) But really, any food is great as long as it’s messy:

  • Still isn’t sleeping through the night. *sigh*
  • May be starting to have some separation anxiety, which is a major bummer. I’ve left her for a few hours during the day a couple of times and at bedtime she refuses to let go of me. She’ll fall asleep after nursing and stay asleep on my shoulder, but as soon as I try to put her in her crib she wakes up and screams and clutches onto me. Ugh. Please, let this be a phase!!

I:

Can’t believe that my baby is a year old already! I know everyone always says that “Oh, it went by SO fast” with every kid, but I swear, it went by even faster with Norah than with Isla. It’s been such a whirlwind with Norah; call it Second Child Syndrome, but everything is easier the second time around in so many ways. I felt more comfortable with my parenting skills and knew the do’s and don’ts from the get-go. That being said, I’ve learned that not every child is the same and Norah has proven to be her own little person and is so unlike her sister in so many ways. Regardless, I wouldn’t change anything for the world and Norah is still our amazing little Chunkers with a devilish grin and a zest for life! I’m definitely feeling ALL the feelings over here today.

At 11 months, Norah:

  • Weighs 23.4lbs
  • Loves to walk while holding onto your hands.
  • Can do power squats like you wouldn’t believe.
  • Loves playing with her big sister, or more specifically, loves playing with her big sister’s toys that she shouldn’t play with. (i.e.: Barbie shoes)
  • Has proven herself to be an awesome travelling baby after our recent trip to Vancouver. She adjusted so well to a new environment and didn’t get off schedule at all. Go Norah!
  • Can crawl up the stairs as of today!

I:

  • Am struggling with the thought of weening Norah. She’s hasn’t been too keen on taking a bottle when I’ve offered her one in the past and I just don’t have the patience/energy to battle it out with her. I’d really like to start making the effort soon though as she’s started to bite me, and that’s not a pleasant feeling. :P
  • Cannot believe that my baby is going to be a whole year old in a month! :(

At ten months, Norah:

  • Weighs 22.2lbs.
  • Has 6 teeth!
  • Can stand on her own for short periods of time and enjoys walking with the assistance of her push-style walker.
  • Is still nursing, mostly out of comfort, but she’s slowly getting the hang of drinking out of a sippy cup and a strawed cup.
  • Waves “hello” & “goodbye.”
  • Has eyes that change colour depending on the day. (Or maybe her mood?) Somedays they still look blue, but other times they look more brown, green, and even grey.
  • Loves eating Cheerios, chicken, meatballs, spaghetti, and bananas!

I:

  • Am fairly certain that I’ve made my decision about whether or not a third child is in the cards … a decision that will remain under wraps for the time being.
  • Am both looking forward to and am nervous about our trip to the Lower Mainland in a couple of weeks. A kind soul is letting me borrow her Sit & Stand stroller, but travelling with two kids is going to be stressful! Thank goodness my mom will be there for backup. ;)
  • Will be running my first 5K tomorrow and I’m dreading it. Wish me luck!
