Race Recap: Boogie the Bridge 2018

Nothing like a cold, wet day for a fun, family event! After a week full of warmth and sunshine, of course the weather had to take a turn for wind and rain yesterday for the 21st Annual Boogie the Bridge. *le sigh* Regardless, we got up, ate some pancakes, and braved the elements for a wonderful cause!

We met up with Kyle’s mom and stepdad at the park and eventually made our way to the start line! Kyle was doing his first-ever half marathon and I’m so stinkin’ proud of him for finishing. There is seriously nothing he’s afraid to tackle.

Shortly after the halfers left, Isla lined up so she could do her 1km Mini Boogie! She ran with grandma and they both did awesome! Next year Isla claims she wants to do the full 5K run, and Kyle and I are both so proud of her for wanting to tackle that.

Then, of course, it was my turn to get going! It’s always such a slog to get through the first few hundred meters of the race because there are SO. MANY. PEOPLE, but once found my stride and got to keep with it, it was pretty smooth sailing. I thought for sure that tackling a spin class the day before was going to be a very bad idea, but I felt pretty good! My ankle was giving my a bit of grief at the beginning but it calmed down and I managed to get myself a PR both for this race and overall – 28:20! My FitBit app clocked me at 28:00 flat, but I’m more than certain that the bib time is more accurate.

Once I found Kyle’s mom and the girls, we hung around the park and waited for Kyle and his step dad to finish, and then we headed home to refuel and rest before celebrating our day.

I’m glad we toughed out the cruddy weather and Boogied the Bridge. It’s always such an amazing event and I’m proud my city hosts it every year. We’re already looking forward to next year’s race!

Currently

Reading // “The End of Men” by Karen Rinaldi. I picked this book up for free through Kobo, and so far, I’m glad I did. I’ve thought about abandoning it but a part of me keeps hoping it gets better. Full disclosure: It’s a chick lit book and not about women empowerment. No bra-burning over here, people.

Watching // We just started watching “LA to Vegas” on a whim and it’s so oddly funny! Kyle and I have grown weary of our “other” 30-minute comedy show, and this one is refreshing! Plus, Vegas holds a special place in our hearts for whatever reason.

Listening to // The Pop2K channel on Sirius radio. Take me back to the early 2000’s!

Loving // The sunny weather we’re FINALLY having! Isla had a Pro-D day yesterday, so we walked to the school and played for an hour and it was glorious.

Thinking // A lot about Daphne. I just miss her so dang much.

Needing // Motivation to do my schoolwork. With the nice weather it’s hard to stay inside and study, but sunlight and computer screens do not mix! I wish I could just sit out in the sun and study at the same time.

Looking forward to // The Boogie the Bridge this weekend! Kyle’s running his first half marathon, Isla is doing the 1K Mini-Boogie, and I’m doing the 5K run. I’m hoping my legs hang in there for me!

Tiny Happy Tuesday xii

I’ve had a cloud of grief and dreariness hanging over my head for the past few days, so I’m digging deep and relishing in all the tiny happies that have popped up between the cracks:

  • A quick road trip with my mom and the girls for a little shopping.
  • Isla rocking swimming lessons and being able to swim without assistance in the “big pool.”
  • Enough sunshine on Sunday to go for a quick walk with Kyle and the girls.
  • Norah’s unconditional love and admiration for animals.
  • And this is nowhere near a tiny happy, but my amazing friend Melissa painted this portrait of Daphne and I am absolutely in awe of her kindness. It captures her perfectly and I was truly speechless when I discovered it in my mailbox:

That’s all for today. Now it’s your turn, what tiny happy has popped up in your life lately?
