Race Recap: Boogie the Bridge 2018

Nothing like a cold, wet day for a fun, family event! After a week full of warmth and sunshine, of course the weather had to take a turn for wind and rain yesterday for the 21st Annual Boogie the Bridge. *le sigh* Regardless, we got up, ate some pancakes, and braved the elements for a wonderful cause!

We met up with Kyle’s mom and stepdad at the park and eventually made our way to the start line! Kyle was doing his first-ever half marathon and I’m so stinkin’ proud of him for finishing. There is seriously nothing he’s afraid to tackle.

Shortly after the halfers left, Isla lined up so she could do her 1km Mini Boogie! She ran with grandma and they both did awesome! Next year Isla claims she wants to do the full 5K run, and Kyle and I are both so proud of her for wanting to tackle that.

Then, of course, it was my turn to get going! It’s always such a slog to get through the first few hundred meters of the race because there are SO. MANY. PEOPLE, but once found my stride and got to keep with it, it was pretty smooth sailing. I thought for sure that tackling a spin class the day before was going to be a very bad idea, but I felt pretty good! My ankle was giving my a bit of grief at the beginning but it calmed down and I managed to get myself a PR both for this race and overall – 28:20! My FitBit app clocked me at 28:00 flat, but I’m more than certain that the bib time is more accurate.

Once I found Kyle’s mom and the girls, we hung around the park and waited for Kyle and his step dad to finish, and then we headed home to refuel and rest before celebrating our day.

I’m glad we toughed out the cruddy weather and Boogied the Bridge. It’s always such an amazing event and I’m proud my city hosts it every year. We’re already looking forward to next year’s race!
