War Zone Renovations

Wednesday night, Kyle and I started talking about doing a little bit of renovations to our place. We don’t really plan on selling any time in the near future, but why not make it more enjoyable for ourselves? (FYI: There are four units in our complex for sale and not one of them seems to have gained anyone’s interest!)

Anyway, what started as a chit-chat turned into reality when we went to Home Depot to “browse” and came out with paint swatches and a pretty good idea of what kind of new flooring we wanted!

So, now my house looks a little bit like a war zone with all of the stuff in our computer rooms tossed into the spare bedroom, the carpet ripped up, the door jam removed and the walls prepped for painting! We’re planning on eventually turning the computer room into the baby’s room whenever that life-altering event occurs ;)

Oh, and Kyle also Hung a floating shelf in the living room for me, so now my plant that sat on our coffee table isn’t blocking our view, and I have a place to put our favourite wedding photo. Yay! I have such a handy husband!

I plan on documenting the changes as we go along, so for now I’ll show you the “Before” photos. For the record, they were taken at about 7:30 a.m. with partial sun shining through the window, with no editing. And the colour before was a dull, gross white.

Also, if there’s any typo’s in this post, blame the fact that I’m blogging from my phone. Hurray for the WordPress for Android app! (I’m going to reread this at home for errors and insert the photos.)

Things that make me go “Hmm…”

I just want to give a shout out to a couple things that make me scratch my head. Maybe this will turn into a series post, maybe not. For now, here’s what’s making my go “Hmm”:

– The nail polish on only one of my toes always comes off completely after about a week or so of application. Proof:

Okay, so my nail polish isn’t looking so hot, but really – ever since I started using a base & top coat the polish always, ALWAYS comes off that one toe. Even when I had my pro pedicure before the wedding, a couple weeks later it was the first toe to lose its colour. I’m baffled. It doesn’t even chip, I’ll just wake up and it’ll be gone! Sorcery, I tell you. Just pure, evil sorcery.

– Extreme couponers. I’m sorry, but you DO NOT need eight sticks of deodorant. Why? because 1) Half the sticks of deodorant will expire before you ever get a chance to use them and 2) No one actually smells THAT bad unless they don’t shower. Ever. Unless you spend so much time cutting coupons that you don’t have time to shower. Then you just have a whole new bag of issues that I’m not willing to dice into at this point in time. Extreme couponers are ridiculous and I blame it all on that TLC show. To the women who quit their jobs to collect coupons: Maybe if you HAD a job you wouldn’t have to use a dozen coupons when buying shit at the store.

– Those tissue paper-like “covers” that you can use in public washrooms. Okay, I get the point of them, but can’t you just hover over the bowl? And if your business is more serious than having to just hover, can you not hold it? Or if you can’t – would you really bother with a silly, flimsy piece of tissue paper to (literally) save your ass? I wouldn’t. Just saying. I’d rather risk exposure to germs than crapping my pants.

Hmm, well, this post got a little carried away into the TMI category, now didn’t it? May as well through this one into the TMI Thursday category. (Yes, that’s a shout out to the Queen Mum of TMIT. Respect.)

WTW: The Reception

Finally, the last post in my WTW series!

What can you say about wedding receptions? In my mind, they’re almost all the same: You eat, make toasts, dance the night away, and go home drunk and merry. Well, if you’re a guest, you do. For Kyle and I, we were whisked away married. (See what I did there? Merry? Married? *snort* Moving on …)

By the time our reception came rolling around, Kyle and I were able to relax a little and catch our breaths. Between the ceremony and photo taking, we were just ready to eat!

Really, our reception was perfect. The decorations were gorgeous thanks to my wonderful mom, grandma, step-grandma and bridesmaids, the food was perfect, and no one fought. The toasts were tear-worthy, the jokes were hilarious, and I couldn’t have been happier with the way everything turned out. I never dreamed of what my wedding would be like growing up, but the way the day went down, I’m sure that’s what I would’ve wanted.

After the reception was winding down and my guests were good and tipsy, Kyle and I made our getaway to an amazing inn just outside of town courtesy of my step-dad. The limo ride out was perfect – calm, quiet, peaceful – and we couldn’t have asked for a better ending to the night. There was a lot of “I can’t believe we’re finally married” comments back and forth between the two of us. Sometimes it’s still so surreal.
