#Fails and #Wins

Things that are full of #FAIL:

– My chair at work is killing my back.

– My cute new flats make my feet warm and uncomfortable. My cute new flats also make my feet smell. Ergo: My cute new flats have to continue making my feet warm and uncomfortable or the smell will make my coworkers uncomfortable.

– I haven’t done any freelancing in a while, which makes me feel rusty, which makes me think that if I did pick up some work I’d be out of practice

– I apparently don’t have any confidence in my writing skills

– I have to pick out blinds for the rooms we’re renovating. This will be a painful task. (I once had garbage bags on my windows for almost a year because we didn’t bother to buy blinds)

– My Word program at work keeps defaulting to some horrible bold font. I’ve yet to change it even though it’s annoying me.

– My keyboard at work is also the pits with its stiff keys and useless USB ports.

– My Mac computer at work has no USB ports. WHY???

– I apparently complain about work a lot.

– The wall charger for my cellphone stopped working, which means my phone will only charge if I plug it into the computer via the USB cord.

Things that are full of #WIN:

– I will be out of my old department at work on Monday and will be a partish-time worker again (I say “partish” because I’m taking on a couple of side jobs at work as well. More on these eventually)

– The room we’re renovating is looking seriously awesome. Can’t wait to share “Done” photos!

– Almonds: My new favourite snack food. AND they’re good for you!

– I am by far the speediest phone-answerer in the land.

– The long weekend coming up. Golfing with my mom Saturday, visiting my bestie in Kelowna on Sunday, and spending time with Kyle on Monday.

– The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson. Seriously hilarious. (Ding dong! Who’s at the door?!)

– The sunflowers I planted in the spring at starting to bloom! The buds arrived in the last couple weeks and the yellow petals are starting to show:

Pretty, no?

Renovation Update

Last Thursday (or maybe it was Friday?) I came home from work to find the room we started working on all painted! Yay!

To be completely honest, I was actually quite bummed that I didn’t get to paint it myself. Like, stupidly bummed. I blame hormones. For real. Anyway, it looks so fabulous and the photos definitely don’t do it any justice!

Here are before & after photos! (And I took the “After” photos at the same time in the day that I took the “Before” ones)

So picture that, with white trim & furniture and a dark wood flooring! It’s going to look SOO good! I’ve already bought shelves to put up. (BTW: My new obsession? Floating shelves!)

Also on the home reno front: We had our pre-hung door put up on Saturday and it just needs a coat or two of paint. One of Kyle’s old co-workers is now runs a contracting company with his brother, so they came and hung the door for me for free! Hurray for connections! There was no way Kyle and I would’ve been able to hang that door as quickly and as easily as they did.

Hopefully today or tomorrow we can start laying our flooring down in that room so we can work on the spare bedroom. Fingers crossed!

Ten on Tuesday

1. What colour are your toenails painted?

Yellow – which may sound horrendous, (as my mom thinks), but they’re a happy, sunshiny yellow. And coincidentally the same colour as my car. I swear I’m not one of those people.  (Who has to match all the time or wears the same colour all. the. time.)

2. What colour are your fingernails painted?

They aren’t painted. I very rarely paint them actually, mostly because my nails are (IMHO) ugly and uneven. I am getting a manicure in a couple weeks though. I’m sure the esthetician will get a good laugh out of my stubby nails.

3. What is your favourite brand of nail polish?

I don’t really have a favourite. I just buy the cheapish stuff at Wal-Mart for $3 (Sally Hansen I think). I’m too cheap to buy the $8/bottle stuff , but I’m willing to take “fancy” brand suggestions. (And are they really better?)

4. As the norm, do you DIY your nails or get mani/pedis?

I’m a total DIY’er. I’ve had only one pedi and will be getting my first mani in a couple weeks (like I said). I may make an appointment for a pedicure before I go up north for that wedding though.

5. Have you ever had a gel mani? Do you recommend it?

I’ve had one fake-mail manicure in my own life and it was horrible. I have no idea if they were gel or acrylic but I would never get them again. Too hard to type or do anything.

6. What is the last movie you watched on television? (TV, Netflix, Redbox, etc.)

I think it was the first half of Young Guns on TV. I did record The Devil Wears Prada the other day (it was on CBC), so I’ll probably watch that tonight.

7. What is the last movie you watched in the cinema?

I’m pretty sure it was the Hangover 2. Hilarious, but not as hilarious as the first one.

8. Is there a movie that everyone talks about as if it is a classic but you haven’t seen?

The actual classics, like Gone with the Wind, Sound of Music, Casablanca, the Godfather. Yep. Have not seen any of those nor to I plan to!

9. What is your favourite movie soundtrack?

That’s a tough one! Maybe Grease, since you can’t NOT listen to the songs and not sing along!

10. Have you ever seen a movie and thought it was better than the book it was based on?

I’m pretty sure I haven’t. I’m a book-based movie hater: It’s either just as good or not as good. Never better!
