Ten on Tuesday

1. What is your favorite zoo to visit?

I really don’t have a zoo that I like to visit. Why? Because I haven’t been to a zoo in ages! I did enjoy the Calgary Zoo when I visited back in Grade 6. We do have a Wildlife Park here, but really, it just has local wildlife and it more touristy than anything? Want to see a moose while in Canada? Come to the BC Wildlife Park!

2. Do you visit a zoo very often?

lol – See my answer to question one!

3. Do you have a membership to a zoo?

No … :(

4. When you visit a zoo, do you stay all day or just an hour or two?

If I were to visit a zoo, it would depend on the zoo! Are there wildlife shows? Chances to hold/pet something? It would depend on what’s going on, and of course, the size of the zoo!

5. Do you buy food at the zoo or pack a picnic lunch?

Because I’m not nearly crafty enough, we’d be buying our lunches.

6. What is your favourite animal to see at the zoo?

I always liked the giraffes at the zoo! They’re soooo tall!

7. What is your least favourite animal to see at the zoo?

Monkeys. I’m convinced that they’ll probably throw poop at me.

8. What is your favourite memory of going to the zoo as a kid?

My grandpa telling some city-slicker that he was once no less than 20ft away from a cougar in the wild. I’m pretty sure the tourist was afraid for my grandpa’s life. Oh, and this was while we were “viewing” the cougar pen behind some plexi-glass

9. Do you visit the gift shop when you go to the zoo?

Usually, although I never buy anything because it’s all so overpriced, just like any gift shop. Although, I’m sure that when I have kids, that will be a whole different story. Over-priced stuffed hippo to shut the kid up? No problem!

10. On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best and 1 being the worst) how nice is your city’s zoo?

I’d say a 6. It’s lacking in some areas, but it’s still pretty neat. Also – if you’ve never actually seen a moose before, check out the video in the link I posted for question one. It’s a female moose, but it’s pretty amusing! (I personally think that moose in the wild are suicidal as they like to run in front of your vehicle when you’re not paying attention)

I Scream, You Scream!

So a while ago, I won fabulous vanilla beans from Angela via Vanilla Food Company. This weekend, I finally made use to some of them!

And, if you couldn’t guess what I made by the title of this post, I made ICE CREAM!

Okay, I made it in my ice cream maker, but still. I put the ingredients together and whatnot, so in my mind, I made it.

I got the beans out of five vanilla pods by cutting them in half length-wise and then running the non-sharpened side of the blade to scrape out the beans. It made my fingers smell deliciously like vanilla!

Here’s a close-up of the beans:

Now, to really get the flavour out, apparently you heat them up on a stove in milk and whatnot, but I’m lazy and didn’t. Next time!

Then, I mixed up my milk and sugar until my sugar was all dissolved, then I added my heavy/whipping cream and the vanilla. Then I poured the mixture into my handy-dandy Cuisinart Ice Cream machine:

The machine is SO LOUD! Like, ridiculously loud. But – the end result? Delicious ice cream!

The vanilla beans really make it look so much more gourmet! I had a little taste already and it’s SO good! It’s now in the freezer hardening up. Can’t wait to have a bowl – and maybe I’ll share. No promises though!

Have you ever made home-made ice cream?

It’s Friday!

Blah – Late posts in the day are going to be my thing I think. I just can’t get on top of my blogging lately. Blaaaaah.

Anyway! A list/bullet thing:

  • I made my own wedding coffee table through a company online. It was SUPER easy: Download the program, upload your photos to the progam, make your book, order, and done! Well, it came in the mail yesterday and:
  • Yeah, so after crying by myself and giving Daphne a hug, I sent the company an angry email and they’re working on sending me a new book ASAP. So HOPEFULLY my *new* book will arrive soon.
  • I’ve been working in my new position for a few weeks now and it’s still going oh-so-fabulous!
  • Our Marriage Certificate finally came in the mail after it being stuck in the middle of the postal strike. Yay! Now I can finally get my name changed on all my important documents. Like my Social Insurance card, driver’s license and banking information. Woo! It’s all kind of official now!
  • I got offered do do some fill-in reporting at work. Obviously I said yes! I’m pretty excited to get my first assignment, but hopefully it’s not something ridiculously beyond my skills. We’ll see how it goes!
  • I’m having a Girl’s Night Saturday and I’m pretty excited about it. Cheesy chick-flicks and yummy food – who could ask for more?
  • Oh – and I want to thank all you lovelies who commented and gave their feedback on my passworded post the other day. My mind is pretty calmed now :)
  • I have no exciting plans this weekend other than banking, returning my recyclables and the driving range with my dad. How boring am I?
Please, tell me you have a more exciting weekend planned than I!
