Six Months

A half of a year old already! Where does the time go?!

At six months …

She:
– Weighs 18lbs, 3oz, according to her 6-month immunization appointment last week. She has her 6-month doctors appointment next week, so we’ll have another measurement then!

– Is “a little tall!” WHAT? Kyle and I are the shortest people I know, so to have the nurse tell me that Isla is a little tall is AMAZING. Really, she’s only 27″, but still – Genetic anomaly? Let’s hope so!

– Is getting pretty good at eating her rice cereal. She’ll open up her mouth for a spoonful of cereal and she definitely knows when she’s had enough. Usually she’ll just become distracted by anything other than her spoon.

– Sits up on her own and rolls EVERYWHERE. She’s become quite the little wiggle worm and is slowly trying to get crawling. The motions are all there, but she can’t figure out how to put them all to work at the same time.

– May or may not be teething. I say “may or may not” because I don’t see any teeth, but the drool has increased, as has the crankiness and chewing. Plus, when I try to feel her gums, she gets quite upset. Although I’d be upset of someone stuck their fingers in my mouth too, so who knows.

I:
– Am looking forward to the new year. It’s going to be filled with more firsts for Isla and I can’t wait to watch her grow even more.

– Feel less guilty dropping Isla off at any of her grandparent’s houses so I can go out and run errands. I even left her with my dad for 20 minutes so I could run to the post office. (This is a big deal because he is an awkward person around babies.) Actually, I’m pretty sure his girlfriend just played with Isla the entire time, but still. Having an assortment of grandparents around is rather handy!

– Am starting to contemplate weaning from boob to bottle. I’d like to do it before I go back to work, but I’m conflicted as to how I should do it. Formula? Pump? Ugh. I could write an entire post on the subject. (And probably will).

Sh!t My Husband Says

More hilarious head scratching conversations with my husband!

Talking about my upcoming shopping trip in Kelowna:
Me: I really want to find a new pair of boots for the winter.
Him: Your boots are so not good for winter! You need a pair with rubber soles and that can hold up.
Me: You mean Sorels?
Him: Yeah!
*I scrunch up my face*

Folding Isla’s laundry when he comes across her new swimsuit:
Him: I think you need to buy Isla a new swimsuit.
Me: What?? Why?
Him: It looks like a strap fell off!
Me: What? Let me see! *I inspect it and nothing is wrong with the suit* There’s nothing wrong with it. See? It’s a “one shoulder” suit! (There’s a spaghetti strap on one shoulder)
Him: This is going in your “Shit my husband says” blog, isn’t it?
Me: You know it.

After I saw a commercial on TV for diamond rings:
Me: They’re my best friend!
Him: But which would you rather have: A shiny, diamond ring, or your Macbook?
Me: … Macbook! It’s more handy.

I hear him say something from the kitchen right before we went to bed:
Me: What did you say?
Him: I was just saying goodnight to my phone, you know, since it’s in a bed of rice.
(Backstory: Kyle’s phone got some “drool damage” from Isla. She was really cranky while visiting family and chewing on his phone was the only thing that was making her happy. His phone had a good “sleep” and it’s working again.)

A Christmas Survey

I saw this on Stephany’s blog last week so I thought I’d take part as well. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas Eve and snuggle down easily before Santa comes tonight! ;)

1. Favourite Christmas album/CD/song?

“Baby It’s Cold Outside” by She & Him.

2. Run on Christmas morning or take the day off?

Bahaha – Working out is not on my menu whatsoever, regardless of what day it is. I’m horrible, I know.

3. What do you usually eat on Christmas morning?

When I was little it was usually a big pancake breakfast of some sort – Pancakes, hashbrowns, and of course THE BACON! Nowadays, it’s whatever’s in the cupboards, but I’m sure that will change once Isla is bigger/eating “regular” food.

4. Favourite Christmas tradition?

Driving around to look at Christmas lights, or watching Christmas movies all day.

5. Real tree, fake tree, or no tree?

Real tree all the way! Right now we’re buying cultured trees off lots, but when the little munchkin is big enough, we’ll go to the woods and hack down our own (legally, of course – you have to get a permit to cut down a tree). It’s one of my favourite Christmas memories growing up – being pulled behind the truck on a toboggan, drinking hot chocolate, getting warm around a bon fire … I can’t wait!

6. Christmas pajamas: yay or nay?

We used to get Christmas PJ’s every year (always on Christmas Eve!) so I will say “Yay” to them!

7. Where do you spend the holidays?

Wherever family is!

8. Food that you always have to have during the holiday season? Favourite Christmas food/treat?

A Terry’s Chocolate Orange!

9. Open presents all at once or take turns? Stockings: yes or no?

We take turns! It makes Christmas morning last longer that way. And YES to stockings! It’s probably my favourite part of Christmas.

10. Favourite Christmas(ish) movie?

A Muppet Family Christmas. Loooove it! And Elf is slowly winning my heart too (I watched it for the first time last year!)
