Comparing Kids

One of the first questions I find that I’m being asked now that Norah is here is, “How is she compared to Isla?” As it turns out, the girls are both pretty different so far, both physically and behaviourally.

For example, when Isla was a newborn she:

  • Had more hair than Norah
  • Spit up WAY more
  • Took a soother
  • Had brown eyes
  • Was a good napper during the day but …
  • Had a horrible nighttime routine

With Norah, things are slightly different:

  • She has less hair that Isla did, and it’s lighter
  • Barely burps after she eats and very seldom spits up
  • HATES a soother, or at least the kind I’m currently trying to offer her
  • Has blue eyes (which very well may change in time)
  • Doesn’t nap very easily during the day but …
  • Sleeps for 3-4 hours straight every night

Of course nowadays, Isla is a wild child with a crazy amount of energy and it looks like Norah may be a little more chill and relaxed than her big sister. I hope that when they’re both older, their personalities balance each other out. If Isla remains to be the wilder child and Norah is more low-key, that’s fine by me. Like every pregnancy, every kid is different.

And if you were to ask me who my favourite child is, I’ll never tell ;) (I’m kidding, I love them both equally and they both drive me crazy in their own unique ways.)

Weekend Update

I swear I’m not intentionally letting things get quiet on the blog, I’ve just been busy either chasing a toddler or feeding a newborn. Either way, here’s a quick update on what’s been going on lately in my life:

Friday
Kyle went back to work so it was just Isla, Norah and I at home for most of the day! It was a good “test” day for me flying solo with both girls all on my own too. As much as I loved having Kyle at home helping out, money unfortunately doesn’t grow on trees so he couldn’t stay home forever.

Norah’s eye gas been super goopy to the point where it was glued shut when she woke up from her naps, so I called our doctor and managed to get in to see him. It turns out that she has a clogged tear duct, so his only suggestion was to gently massage it with a wet q-tip and to squirt breast milk into her eye to try and unclog it. Breast milk is magical stuff, yo, and can cure anything! Her eye is starting to look a bit better now, so yay!

Kyle’s mom came and picked Isla up for a pool day and dinner in the afternoon, so I loaded Norah up and went to my mom’s for dinner since Kyle would be working late. (Any opportunity for me to not have to cook is a good one for me!)

Saturday
Lucky for me, Kyle only had to work Friday, so he was off for the weekend again. We had a relatively lazy day and didn’t get up to a whole bunch. Isla had an impromptu nap on the couch at the same time Norah was asleep in her swing, which was hilarious. (Not so hilarious when Isla had a hard time falling asleep at bedtime though.)

Sunday
Isla, Norah and I met my mom at the mall as I was on the hunt for a couple pairs of shorts that would actually fit me. I still have about 10lbs to lose before I’m back at my pre-pregnancy weight, but I’ve grown tired of only fitting into either my lululemon shorts or my soccer shorts from high school. I managed to find two pairs of shorts in sizes that fit me, so I’m happy that I’ll no longer look shlumpy when I go out in public.

After that, we set out on our usual Sunday routine: groceries and laundry. Ah, the life of a housewife ;)

That’s pretty much all that happened for me this weekend. Please, tell me something fun and exciting that happened to you this weekend!

Currently

Reading // Nada. Still. There’s a new Jennifer Weiner book coming out next month that I’ll probably pick up, but I just don’t have the energy to read. I remember when Isla was born I’d read on my Kobo while nursing, but it’s tougher to find R&R time with Norah since Isla needs entertaining as well. So, my bookshelf remains pathetically empty.

Watching // Friends and OITNB on Netflix (which is underwhelming this season), plus Masterchef, Rookie Blue, and So You Think You Can Dance on “regular” TV.

Listening to // A lot of Maroon 5 still. I’m actually growing a little tired of everything that’s in my car, but I keep forgetting to bring my USB stick into the house to update my playlist.

Loving // These moments:

Thinking // About Kyle’s venture back to work next week. It’s going to be tough not having him at home, but I know he can’t be around forever. He’s been such an amazing help and I’m probably going to have a few mental breakdowns while I adjust to him not being here during the day. Ah well.

Needing // Clothes that are not so shlumpy looking as my body adjusts from pregnancy to pre-pregnancy. I have three pairs of shorts that fit and only one of them are “good” enough (IMO) to go out into public in. Blarg.

Anticipating // Isla’s Thursday visits to my mom’s once again. Our schedule has been out of whack since Norah’s arrival two weeks ago (already!!) but this week Isla will resume her Thursday dinner visits with her Gamma. Plus, when Kyle does go back to work, I’ll have a couple hours of just Norah and I time, which will be nice.

Looking forward to // Watching Norah grow, and her and Isla creating a sisterly bond.
