Sh*t My Kid Says

DSC_0051

Age four is a fun age. Full of energy, full of sass, and also full of surprises! Isla has certainly developed her own personality, and it really shows through some of the things she says, both adorable and bizarre.

It’s been a while since I’ve featured some of her gems, so here’s some quotes to make you go “Aww” as well as, “Oh my:”

While sitting at the table:
Her: “Mom, do you know what makes you special?”
Me: “No, what?”
Her: “I’m special.”

—–

“Did you know that lobsters eat …. POOP?!?”

—–

Me: “Please don’t touch the computer, Isla.”
Her: “Why not?”
Me: “Because it’s expensive and I don’t want you to break it.”
Her: “Why not?”
Me: “Because if it breaks we can’t replace it because money doesn’t grow on trees.”
Her: “Pineapples grow on trees!”

—–

Talking about hunting with Kyle in the fall …

“Yeah, so we can shoot a deer IN THE FACE!!!”

—–

Discussing at the dinner table how she’s going to have to learn how to tie her shoes …

Me, to Isla: “You’ll learn how to tie them eventually!”
Her, to Kyle: “Yeah, the lady in the zebra shirt said so!”

(She got the shoes at Footlocker. Ref shirt = Zebra shirt!)

“Moooooom, is it tomorrow today??”

I can only imagine what Norah’s going to come up with when she can make sentences and not just scream and screech at everything ;)

My dearest Isla,

My, how the past year has flown by! So much has happened since your last birthday, I almost cannot keep track of everything.

Of course, right before your birthday last year you became a BIG SISTER! And what an amazing big sister you’ve been to Norah. You’re so kind and caring towards her, but of course, you two get into fights like any siblings would! Still, I love watching the two of you grow and bond with one another.

You’ve gotten so smart; you love to learn and do so very quickly! Everyone always comments on how smart you are, and Daddy and I both hope that continues as you get older!

You also love to dance. You finished your second year of dance lessons and just loved performing on the “big stage.” You’re already excited for classes to resume in September and I’m looking forward to seeing where dance takes you!

My babes, you’ve taught me so, SO much in these few short years and I cannot wait to see what the next year brings your way. You’ve already filled me with so much pride!

Happy 4th Birthday, my amazing little girl!

Love,

Mommy

Comparing Kids

One of the first questions I find that I’m being asked now that Norah is here is, “How is she compared to Isla?” As it turns out, the girls are both pretty different so far, both physically and behaviourally.

For example, when Isla was a newborn she:

  • Had more hair than Norah
  • Spit up WAY more
  • Took a soother
  • Had brown eyes
  • Was a good napper during the day but …
  • Had a horrible nighttime routine

With Norah, things are slightly different:

  • She has less hair that Isla did, and it’s lighter
  • Barely burps after she eats and very seldom spits up
  • HATES a soother, or at least the kind I’m currently trying to offer her
  • Has blue eyes (which very well may change in time)
  • Doesn’t nap very easily during the day but …
  • Sleeps for 3-4 hours straight every night

Of course nowadays, Isla is a wild child with a crazy amount of energy and it looks like Norah may be a little more chill and relaxed than her big sister. I hope that when they’re both older, their personalities balance each other out. If Isla remains to be the wilder child and Norah is more low-key, that’s fine by me. Like every pregnancy, every kid is different.

And if you were to ask me who my favourite child is, I’ll never tell ;) (I’m kidding, I love them both equally and they both drive me crazy in their own unique ways.)
