Six Months

6 Months

At six months, Norah:

  • Weighs 18lbs, 5oz and is 27″ long, according to our appointment at the doctor’s office yesterday. She’s in the 90th percentile for weight and height, and weighs about the same as Isla did at 6 months. (Not sure about length though.) Also: She didn’t cry at her appointment this time, so that was a huge plus.
  • Still isn’t too sure about rice cereal but loves to suck on “real” food through her little mesh feeding things. So far she’s tried carrots, oranges, banana, and rice and really seems to enjoy it. I suppose if you were to “label” her venture into solids, you could call it Baby-led weaning. I’m not following any kind of a system or method; we’re just going with the flow.
  • Loves jumping in her exersaucer! We don’t really have the space for a Jolly Jumper, but she loves jumping in her spring-loaded exersaucer. I think she’s more entertained by the whole thing than Isla was.

  • Can sit up on her own!
  • Met Santa and wasn’t 100% sure about him. She studied him for about a minute before she started crying. Luckily we got a photo of both her and Isla looking at the camera before tears started flowing.

I:

  • Am about 2lbs away from being back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I’m totally blaming not being 100% back on being lazy and not exercising, and indulging way too much on holiday treats. (Totally my fault too. I just love to bake!)
  • Have found two little grey hairs on my head. I blame hormones and I sure hope they don’t stick around.
  • Hate that I haven’t started my Couch to 5K training yet. Maybe I’ll make it a New Year’s Resolution. *snort* The event I want to run is at the end of April, so that totally gives me lots of time to train, right?
  • Cannot wait for Christmas! Isla is really into it this year and understands Santa, so it’s a whole new level of magical for me.

At five months, Norah:

  • Weighs 18.5lbs! I seriously cannot get over how wonderfully chunky she is. Her rolls make my heart smile.
  • Loves to blow spit bubbles and suck on her toes. It’s hilarious yet gross because there is SO MUCH DROOL. Bandana bibs are our friends.
  • Has had her first taste of rice cereal and isn’t too sure what she thinks of it:

  • Is apprehensive around new people. She’ll either smile or be terrified and cry. When I took her to the doctor for her check up she was all smiles for the MOA when she was getting her measurements, but when the doctor came in she took one look at him and started bawling her eyes out. I felt bad, but it was pretty funny.
  • Is trying SO hard to crawl! She just thrashes her arms and legs while on her tummy and gets her bum high up in the air, but can’t quite figure out how to put it all together.
  • Listens better than her sister ;)

I:

  • Think my hair loss problem is starting to subside. Every day it *seems* like there is less hair falling out, but I won’t hold my breathe!
  • Have come to an agreement with Kyle when it comes to deciding on whether or not we should have another kid. We’re giving ourselves until Norah turns one to make a final decision. Seems reasonable to me, and for now I can change my mind as many times as I want.
  • Finally got Norah’s photo album caught up to date. I feel horrible for how slack I’ve been as far as photos and videos of her goes. Second child syndrome is the WORST. (I’m assuming, at least.)
  • Have been super tired lately, especially during Norah’s middle of the night wake up calls. I remember with Isla getting used to it early on, but with Norah I find myself falling asleep still while nursing her. My neck is KILLING me as a result.

At four months, Norah:

  • Weighs just about 17lbs! She’s a smidgen heavier but slightly shorter than Isla was at the same age, but Norah’s right on track and more or less average.
  • Had her 4 month immunizations last Friday and handled them very well! She cried for maybe 5 seconds after the needles until the health nurse started blowing bubbles, then she was distracted by that and completely forgot that she just had two pokes. The nurse was impressed!
  • Has mastered rolling over! Nowadays when she gets bored of being on her back, she just rolls right over with no struggles. She’s only rolled back onto her back a couple of times so far, but I’m sure she’ll get that figured out soon!

  • Loves, LOVES not having any pants on! As soon as you take them off for whatever reason she gets super excited and starts kicking her legs like crazy, lol. She also loves being in the bath tub and splashing like crazy. I think I may have a future nudist on my hands ;)
  • Is drooling like crazy, but no signs of teeth just yet. I have a feeling she’ll teethe the same way as Isla did: teeth teasing her for 3 months before they actually show up. Time will tell, I suppose, but I feel bad for her because she’s obviously uncomfortable.

I:

  • Have yet to start my Couch to 5K training. There are some serious motivation issues.
  • Hate my hair so much. It’s falling out like crazy and I’m starting to think that bald may be a good look for me. I was supposed to have a hair appointment next week but I cancelled it because it’s just falling out SO MUCH. I told my hair dresser I’d call her when I start to look like a human again.
  • Bought the girls matching jammies for our Christmas card photos. Now it’s just a matter of taking them, which will happen sometime next month. I have no idea what company I’m going to order them through though. I’ve used Vistaprint in the past but have a $20 off coupon for Shutterfly, so maybe I’ll try them? We’ll see!
