A dog’s dozenth

It’s actually hard for me to believe that Daphne is now 12 years old. If dog years are an actual thing, that would make her 84 in people years. An old lady, indeed.

And like any old lady, she has her days. Most of the time she’s just laying there, observing the household happenings and not saying too much. Getting up is a bit tough, as are stairs, and I’m pretty certain that this winter I’ll have to let her go through the basement door to get to the yard to do her business.

But, beneath her old lady shawl there’s still a bit of a young pup inside her. Like when the doorbell rings. Or when she gets to go for rides in the car. And with the girls? She’s still so patient, even when Norah tries to ride her like a horse.

Yeah, she drives me crazy sometimes too. The shedding? RIDICULOUS. Her breath? Could peel paint off a cruise ship. I still wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world.

So, here’s to you, Daphner-Dan! Happy Birthday! <3

TGIF v.39

A high of the week was going out to my hometown to visit with my grandpa, aunt and cousin! My grandpa has been splitting his time between there and Burnaby, so whenever he’s there my mom and I try our best to go out and visit. It was especially nice that my aunt and cousin came up with him for the weekend, so we got to catch up a bit! We busied ourselves by going to the park and walking down to the pumpkin patch, and it was a blast!

A low of the week was nothing, really! I wasn’t even too saddened by the Walking Dead. (I kind of saw it coming.) That’s not to say that I won’t miss the characters though!

An internet find I loved was Pentatonix’s version of “Hallelujah.” I’ve always loved that song (major props to Leonard Cohen), and their version is just beautiful. Check it out on YouTube:

The best money I spent was $11 on a Blu-Ray player for basement. Our old one stopped working mid-movie and I found one on a Facebook bidding site. Lucky me for the winning bid, and now Isla can watch her movies downstairs again!

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was being able to spend some one-on-one time with Norah while Isla is at preschool. On Tuesday we had some time to waste before picking her up, so we walked to the nearby park and Norah got to play and explore all on her own. I think Norah appreciates the time as well; she doesn’t have to fight for attention and gets me all to herself!

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Hallelujah” by the Pentatonix, obviously, but Maroon 5’s new single “Don’t Wanna Know” has also been on repeat!

My meals of the week were:

Monday: Baked meatballs
Tuesday: Barbecued chicken with Caesar salad and these Greek potatoes.
Wednesday: Roast beef
Thursday: Jambalaya

My plans for the weekend are Halloween party for Isla and Norah, and pumpkin carving! (Something tells me I’m going to regret getting 5 pumpkins …)

What are your plans for the weekend? Are you dressing up for Halloween?

Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning, beautiful people! I know I’ve been pretty scarce around here lately, but I just haven’t had the itch to blog. The creative juices have been feeling a bit dried up and not much is inspiring me to write. Regardless, I figured I’d give you all an update on what we’ve been up to lately.

So, if we were sitting down for coffee this morning, I’d be telling you that …

… Isla has been loving school! She’s made some friends and so far I haven’t had any notes sent home by her teacher that she’s been misbehaving. Win!

… Norah has equally been enjoying having a bit of alone time with me while her sister is at school. Not having to share the toys for a couple of hours? Oh the joy!!

… We’ve started doing some Christmas shopping and this year is proving to be challenging. I have zero idea what Santa is going to bring the girls (they have ideas but I know Santa isn’t made out of money), and even my wish list is pretty boring. (Like, “Hmm, new towels would be nice” boring.) Maybe once Halloween comes and goes I’ll be inspired.

… We did some hardcore adulting and renewed the mortgage on our house and even pulled some equity out of it. Hurray! Time to adult more and tackle some loans. Adulting is fun, yo. ;)

… My face has been glued to the World Series playoffs, specifically the Blue Jays! We’re down 0-2 in this current series against Cleveland, so hopefully we’re able to make some magic happen this afternoon.

… I’ve started watching a few new shows on TV and I’m undecided on whether I actually like a couple of them or not. “This Is Us” is probably my favourite, but “Lethal Weapon” and “Pitch” I’m on the fence about. No one can duplicate Mel Gibson and Danny Glover’s chemistry in the Lethal Weapon movie series, and Pitch is a little too “Girl Powery” for me. I’ll give them the season to help me decide, if they last that long.

Clearly, my life is boring AF.

Please, tell me what’s new in your world!
