Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning to you! I hope you had a wonderful weekend and that you’re ready to grab Monday by the cojones!

It’s been a couple weeks since I’ve done a life update post, so lets grab a cup of coffee together and catch up, shall we?

  • The biggest “news” is that Kyle and I sold our VW Golf! Those are some serious air quotes around “news” because it was a rather unceremonious occasion, but Vera Wagon is no longer a part of our fleet. She more or less just sat around our garage and took up space, so she’s gone.
  • Norah finally cut another second molar after almost 6 months of nothing. Hallelujah! Thankfully she’s handled this tooth like a champ compared to her bottom teeth and she hasn’t been miserable.
  • Over the weekend Kyle tackled a little home reno project that we’ve been talking about doing for ages: Wainscoting! We put it in the dining area just off the kitchen and while I still need to paint it, it has really brought the two spaces together!
  • I’ve been making a big effort to get back into shape these days. I’ve been waking up early a few days a week to run on the treadmill to get my cardio in better condition, and on Friday I did a round of Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown and it killed my upper body. I don’t know what has lit this fire under my ass, but a little fitness never hurt no one, right? Perhaps one day I’ll be confident enough in my running to do the Lululemon Seawheeze! The registration lottery for that was the other day and it was so tempting but I’m not quite there yet!
  • Oh yeah, and I also signed up for a Barre & Brew event next month! I’m looking forward to it, even though I’m not super crazy about beer.
  • I was holding a little 9 month-old baby the other day and Norah got SUPER jealous. She kept telling me to put the baby down and that it was “her turn” to sit on my lap. Sheesh! The baby started fussing and I put her down anyway, but my goodness, Norah has never acted like that before!
  • The Parent Advisory Council (PAC) at Isla’s school is hosting a raffle to raise money for various things needed at the school. The prizes are pretty amazing and I just have to give a big shout out and a thank you to everyone I know who has purchased tickets to support her school!
  • Kyle and I have already started hashing out some summer vacation ideas, and we’re thinking a waterslide tour is going to happen! There’s a few good ones within a few hours of us, so we’re going to try and visit a couple when summertime comes around. The girls both had a blast last summer when we went so I think it will be fun to go again this year.

I think that’s all I have to share for this morning so tell me, What’s new and exciting in your world right now?

Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning, and Happy Monday! I know I’ve been relatively absent from the blog over the holidays, so I thought I’d write this update post coffee break style.

If we were sitting down for coffee this morning, I would tell you that…

… We had a wonderful Christmas break with our family and friends! Kyle and I hosted Christmas dinner for all our family, and the girls had so much fun visiting with everyone. I thought for sure they would get “Christmassed out,” but they did so well.

… We’re now back to the regular grind of life. Isla goes back to school today and to dance on Wednesday, and I’m starting my next round of Administrative Assistant courses. The break from school was very welcome, but I’m happy to be getting back to a routine!

… I’m not big on making New Year’s resolutions, but I did make a goal of running at least three 5k races in 2018. The first one is happening in March, and providing I can get motivated enough in the morning to get some treadmill time in, I think I should be able to nail this goal no problem!

… I’d also add that even if I am unable to do the 5k in March, I’ve already registered for the 5K Foam Fest in Sun Peaks that happens in June! A friend signed up with me, so we’ll be good motivators for one another! I’ve been eyeballing this race for a couple years now, so I’m super excited to finally be able to commit to it.

… I tried online grocery shopping for the first time ever last week. I don’t know if it’s for me, but I definitely get the allure! Norah was actually quite upset that we were waiting in the truck and not going good into the store; I think she likes getting her free cookie whenever we go in. I’m contemplating writing a review of the service, so if you have any questions about it, ask away in the comments and I’ll address them in a future post!

… I’ve been finding the weather to be so wonky! We’ve gone from -17ºC to -4ºC in a matter of a couple days and my body is having a hard time adjusting. A few times now I’ve woken up sweating to death, and I’m sure my thermostat is confused by how often I keep changing it. Can we just skip to springtime already??

Well, I suppose that’s all for this morning. I hope everyone has a great Monday!!

How was your Christmas break?

Monday Morning Coffee

Good morning, everyone! It’s been a while since I’ve done a coffee date-style post, so I figured I’d do one today. So go grab a cup of the good stuff and lets make believe that if we were having coffee this morning I’d be telling you that …

… Isla has had a great first couple of days at school! Today and tomorrow she does for half-days (morning then afternoon), and then on Wednesday she has her first full day. On Thursday last week we met with her teacher and she seems great. On Friday I dropped her off for a mini-day (1.5hrs) and she was so chill about everything, from walking to school to going into her classroom. I knew she’d be just fine but I’m still wrapping my head around the fact that I have a kindergartener! Someone hold me.

… I started taking online courses to obtain a Administrative Assistant certificate. I’ve been relatively hush-hush about the fact I’m going back to school, only because when I say that people assume I’m going to a classroom and it’s tedious to explain that the courses are via distance learning. Doing things at home make it easier (and cheaper) to care for the girls and I can do my “learning” when it’s convenient for me. So far everything is going good!

… I decided to take said course to help increase my chances at finding a job. While my journalism degree and work history have provided me with some great skills that are extremely useful for the jobs that I’m after, I feel that I’m still under qualified in many ways. My hope is that having this certificate and the knowledge it will provide me with will help me land a great job in the future.

… Kyle and I booked a trip to Las Vegas next month!! We’re tagging it as our long, overdue honeymoon as we never actually had one and it’s our first trip AWAY away just as a couple. We’re staying at Caesar’s Palace and already have a couple of show tickets booked and I’m pretty excited about it all! It’s definitely needed and well deserved, in my opinion. And a big thanks to my mom for taking the girls for a few nights too!

… Kyle planted 5 tomato plants at the beginning of summer: two grape, one Roma, one heirloom and one “regular” plant. They are OUT OF CONTROL, especially the grape tomatoes! I seriously cannot keep up with picking them and we have tomatoes coming out of our eyeballs. So you know, if you want some good snacking tomatoes, come on over!

… We are redoing our deck out back and it’s going to be so amazing when it’s done! The old one was pretty useless as far as functionality goes; you could really only barbecue and sit two chairs side by side. Definitely not something we wanted to entertain on! Our new one will be much better for entertaining and just “being” on.

… I tried my hand at pickling! It’s been forever since I’ve canned anything, and I’ve always had help, but a couple weeks ago we bought a 10lb bag of pickling cukes. I’m fairly certain that Kyle had intended on just snacking on the cukes as they were, but when I mentioned maybe making a few jars of pickles he said to go for it! I managed to find this simple method and went to town! The hardest thing was finding the dill weed but thankfully there was one local produce store in town that had some still. I managed to get 8 jars out of my brine, although I probably had enough pickles for one or two more jars. Everything sealed, so lets hope in a few weeks time I have tasty pickles!

What would you be sharing with me if we were having coffee?
