Weekend Update

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had an excellent Easter weekend and didn’t indulge too much in the Easter chocolate. We had a lovely weekend, both productive and busy!

Friday
Kyle’s sister was visiting for the weekend so we went down to his mom’s place for Easter dinner. I baked an apple pie for dessert, partly because I was just in the mood to bake a pie and I figured if I took one down to share with everyone it would save me from eating the entire thing myself. Basically, I took everyone down with my pregnancy craving ;)

Saturday
Kyle and I had ordered a new bed for Isla a couple of weeks ago, so we figured we better get her some new furniture to match. (Her old stuff is going back into the nursery for Baby N.) We already had redone a bookshelf for her room, so it was a matter of getting furniture to match that colour. We ended up buying the Aulum dresser & nightstand from Jysk:

Aulum dresser from Jysk

Kyle put the nightstand together and it took forever (partly because Isla insisted on “helping”), so we’ll probably put the dresser together this weekend. We wanted to spend some time outside, but the weather was so wishy-washy, we ended up hanging out inside.

After Isla went to bed the Easter Bunny got to work, filling baskets and hiding eggs …

Sunday
AKA – EASTER! The Easter Bunny arrived early in the morning and Isla was very excited to see her basket waiting for her! She doesn’t quiet understand Easter as much as she “gets” Christmas, but she’ll figure it out. The Easter Bunny brought her The Jungle Book on DVD, a new dress, a giant Kinder Surprise egg, Paw Patrol bubble bath, and a couple of puzzles. After she emptied her basket of goodies, we told her that there were eggs hidden in the living room. Once she learned that there was chocolate inside the plastic eggs it didn’t take long for her to hunt them all down.

My mom stopped by around lunchtime since the Easter Bunny “stopped” at her house with goodies for Isla, so Isla was spoiled some more with more chocolate and other goodies! (Stickers, pencils, a notepad, socks!) AND THEN later on that afternoon my dad stopped by with even MORE goodies for Isla – puzzles, CHOCOLATE, colouring books … this kid is so lucky! Needless to say, we all headed outside to burn off some of that chocolate-induced sugar buzz! We also went down to Kyle’s mom again to visit with his sister & play some bean bag before she headed back home on Monday. Kyle & I dominated and won all three games – Woo!

After Isla went to bed we FINALLY got around to watching the season finale of The Walking Dead. It had been sitting on our PVR for a week, so I was happy to finally be able to watch it! All I’ll say is – “Hmm …” It will be interesting to see what happens next season!

Monday
Kyle had to work but my mom was off, so we headed to Ashcroft to visit my Grandpa and Helen. We stopped at Kyle & I’s old place of employment, which had been closed for a few years but opened back up last year after new owners took it over. It was so surreal being back there and even seeing some familiar faces working behind the counter. We had a lot of great memories working there, so it was great to see it doing well again. I bought some local honey, as well as an apple pie and a loaf of herb bread. Really, I could have bought SO much more, but refrained. I’ll just have to go back to sample some more products ;)

We had a really nice visit with my Grandpa & Helen, and even though the weather wasn’t all that great, that didn’t stop Isla from “winning” a visit to the park right below the house. We didn’t stay for too long, but Isla seemed content with the amount of play time she got.

We headed back later in the afternoon since Isla’s new big-girl bed was being delivered around 6pm! She looks so tiny in her new bed, but she absolutely loves it! And it’s nice to actually be able to sit on her bed with her for her bedtime story instead of on the floor.

The only crumby thing is that Kyle and I told the “bed guy” that the mattress we were buying was going to be 11″ thick, so he made the gap in the headboard to reflect that height. We ended up buying a different, slightly thinner, mattress, and so it the gap is a little bigger that it should be. So far, no pillows have been lost behind the bed, so we’ll see how it goes.

Now we’re back to “reality” today, with dance class later on this morning, errands to run, and more baking to do. I woke up with a huge knot in my shoulder, so a trip to the chiropractor is definitely in order as well sometime this week.

How was your Easter Weekend?

Pregnancy 2.0: 28 Weeks

28 weeks

Size of Baby: About the size of a tropical coconut, according to my pregnancy app! I’m now also officially in the third trimester! Only 12 weeks to go!

Feeling: Not too bad, other than the usual nagging hip pain. I’ve been waking up at least once every night to go to the bathroom, and when I wake up I’m usually sweating to death. I blame the Snoogle, really.

Craving: I satisfied my hankering for a Vietnamese Spring Roll while I was in Vancouver on the weekend, so that was delicious. Now I’m really wanting bacon & hashbrowns for some reason, so on Friday I’m going to make that for everyone.

Other: I’ve started touching up the paint in the nursery. I did the trim yesterday and I still have around the window to do, but I have to buy a small can of paint before I do that. I also bought a lamp for the nursery while I was in Ikea and looked for some kind of artwork for the walls, but didn’t come up with anything. Here’s the lamp I got though. It’s really pretty and not too bright!

I also bought a cute little bunny stuffed toy from Ikea. Really, I could have gone REALLY crazy there, but refrained big time.

Also, while I was in Vancouver I hit up Old Navy thinking I’d be able to find some maternity clothes there for a decent price. Umm, not so much. They had NOTHING in my size and their maternity clothing was priced about the same as actual maternity store’s. Lame-o. I found 1 shirt for $10 and that was it. Isla got some cute new clothes though, so it wasn’t a complete bust.

Oh yes, and for those who care to hazard a guess, Baby Girl’s name starts with the letter “N.” Isla still insists it’s Ketchup though ;)

TGIF v.14

The high of my week was getting Isla’s hair cut on Tuesday. Her bangs haven’t been trimmed since mid-December and her hair was getting so long that it knotted SO easily. Have you tried to detangle a toddler’s hair? No easy feat! I was putting conditioner it in when I washed her hair just to make it easier to brush. Anyway, she got her hair cut on Tuesday, complete with trimmed bangs (I opted NOT to let them grow out), and about 2 inches taken off the back. Her curls are still there though!

The low of my week was a weird happening to Daphne. Sunday morning I heard Isla waking up so I got out of bed and helped her get onto the potty. After that, I went back into my bedroom to grab a sweater. Kyle was still sleeping, but Isla followed me in and Daphne got up to go out for a pee. I don’t know what exactly happened, but while I was getting my sweater over my head I heard Isla talking to Daphne and as I looked up I just saw Daphne fall over like a fainting goat. And then? She peed her morning pee on our nice, new carpet. I had to wake Kyle up because she was unable to get up and THERE WAS PEE. Kyle instantly thought she had a stroke, but she got up a few minutes later and there Kyle & I were, cleaning dog urine out of the carpet at 7:30 am. Joyous start to the day! Daphne is fine now, but man, having an old dog is tough sometimes.

An internet find I loved was the following YouTube video by College Humor, depicted what it would be like if Gandhi took a yoga class. Kyle had actually found it and made me watch it, and I laughed pretty hard, not because I’m one of “those” yogis, but because it just kind of goes to show how trendy yoga has become in some ways. (I will admit, I do own a lot of lululemon though, and I have no regrets about that!)

The best money I spent was $80 on stuff for Baby #2! I managed to find a used Ergo Performance (in green) & infant insert for $80 (A steal considering brand new those would’ve set me back about $180). A bonus was the Diaper Genie diaper pail the woman selling the Ergo carrier gave me for free!! She said she was purging and just offered it to me, otherwise it was headed to goodwill! We need a new pail because ours broke, and while I hadn’t decided what exactly I was going to replace it with, she saved me $35 if I had decided to get my own Diaper Genie. Score!

My favourite Isla moment was a completely unplanned meeting with a horse! We went for a drive just outside of town to drop off some deer meat at the butcher to have it made into pepperoni and there were a couple of horses at the fence feeding on hay. Isla saw them and wanted to go see them, so I figured, “Why not?” She calmly walked up to them and one of them approached the fence to sniff her. It was pretty cute! Isla got a little apprehensive about the horses after that (personal space was invaded a little), but she thought it was great. I didn’t mind either, although I’m sure the horses could sense that I was nervous, because the “friendly” one wouldn’t let me pet it. Ah well.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy. Weird, right? I was browsing songs to download on iTunes and previewed that one, and it’s been stuck in my head for a couple days now. (I didn’t buy it though – maybe I should?)

My favourite meal of the week was nothing, really. I made some beef kabobs on Thursday, but I feel like I fell into a bit of a rut this week. I attempted to make Greek potatoes, but they were a huge fail being underdone and kind of flavourless.

My plans for the weekend are an oil change for Vera this morning, mani & pedi tomorrow morning, and then Vancouver Sunday morning for Maroon 5 that night!! I’m looking forward to a little mini-getaway with my mom and some shopping on Robson Street + Ikea! It will be Kyle’s first time alone with Isla over night, so hopefully it goes good for him! (I’m sure it will – Isla adores her Daddy!)

What are your plans for the weekend?
