TGIF v.21

The highs of my week were Norah sleeping 7-8 hours straight two nights in a row, having our new cable services hooked up, sushi lunch with my dad for his birthday on Monday.

The low of my week was realizing how crumby the housing market is right now. Kyle and I have been looking at houses, but there’s not much out there that fits the bill for what we’re wanting. We even put an offer on a place but the sellers were out to lunch with their counteroffer and we couldn’t make a deal happen. I don’t know if we’re just being too picky with what we want in a house, but it’s depressing. At least we’re fine in the house we’re in now.

An internet find I loved was the SipSnap. While I haven’t coughed over the dough to buy a set, I think they are a super amazing idea for little restaurant goers! While so many places offer kiddie meals, a lot of them aren’t necessarily “kid” friendly when it comes to beverages. Who gives a toddler an adult-sized cup without a lid or straw?!

The best money I spent was on pyjamas and undies for Isla. Her current ones were getting a little snug so off to Carter’s we went to pick out some new ones! She picked out some glow in the dark and princess pj’s and “Days of the week” undies. We’ll see how it goes when I try to get her to wear the correct day of the week ;)

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was not having to fight with Isla to sit in the grocery cart at Costco. Seriously. She usually rides on the back of the cart, but I had 100 things to buy and didn’t want to chase her around the store and yell at remind her to stay on the cart. In the past she’s put up a huge fight in the store when we try to get her to sit in the cart, but not this trip! I think the secret is to talk to her at home before we leave about what we’re doing and what I expect her to do.

The song that has been stuck in my head is an instrumental bit from Back to the Future III. It’s the song the band is playing during the festival and it’s been stuck in my head since last weekend. How dorky and random is that?

My favourite meal of the week was homemade mac & cheese! I’ve been craving it for a while now but haven’t been able to make it because Kyle has discovered that he has a sensitivity to cheese :( But, last night I was able to make a small batch of it for myself and it was the best thing ever. {Recipe here}

My plans for the weekend are a bank appointment today (adulting, FTW!) and that’s about it. Maybe I’ll hit up the Farmer’s Market Saturday. I haven’t been since, oh, May? I need to get my bannock fix, me thinks.

What are your weekend plans??

Two Months

At two months, Norah:

  • Weighs 13lbs 14oz and is 23.5″ long. According to the growth chart at the doctor’s office, she’s in the 97th percentile for weight and height. Whaaat? Kyle and I are fairly short, so to have yet another “tall” kid is so bizarre for us. (Isla’s also up there in height!)
  • Now sleeps in her crib! I had moved her to her crib when she was 6 weeks old and the transition went smoothly! Now there’s more space in my bedroom, and I don’t have to worry about her waking Kyle up on the nights he has to work.
  • Also has been sleeping for longer periods of time at night. She now sleeps from about 9:30-10pm to around 4am. I’m quite thankful for that one! She’s even had a couple of 8-hour stretches of sleep, which is amazing!

  • Loves to look around at everything! She is also loving her hand-me-down piano play mat.
  • Is wearing a lot of 3 month-sized clothing now and stopped fitting into newborn stuff a while ago. She’s also in size 2 diapers already. I blame her amazing chunkiness!
  • Is starting to grow hair in her bald spot, a.k.a. The Balding Accountant. It’s so soft and peach-fuzzy, I just love kissing it.

  • Had her 2-month shots on Friday and she handled them like a champ. She cried for a few seconds then calmed right down, so that made me happy. Isla handled them really well when she went for hers, so I wasn’t sure if Norah would react the same or not.

I:

  • Am finding it hard to gussy up the motivation and more specifically, the time, to get active and in shape again. I’m still hovering around the +10lb mark from my pre-pregnancy weight and I’d like to at least fit comfortably into my jeans by the time the cooler weather hits. Between tending to Norah and wrangling Isla, it’s hard to dedicate a chunk of time to even just hit the treadmill for a half-hour.
  • Have yet to resort to one of the freezer meals I made while I was still pregnant. Actually, that’s a lie; I thawed one out but it wasn’t even a day where I had no time to think about dinner. Kyle and I are notoriously bad at planning meals on his days off, so we busted out a freezer meal after having no other ideas.
  • Actually managed to finish a book while nursing Norah, and it only took me a week! It was a fun, light read and it made feeding Norah much more entertaining for me, lol. Read my review here!

What I’M Reading: Who Do You Love

From Goodreads.com:
Rachel Blum and Andy Landis are eight years old when they meet late one night in an ER waiting room. Born with a congenital heart defect, Rachel is a veteran of hospitals, and she’s intrigued by the boy who shows up all alone with a broken arm. He tells her his name. She tells him a story. After Andy’s taken back to the emergency room and Rachel’s sent back to her bed, they think they’ll never see each other again.

Rachel, the beloved, popular, and protected daughter of two doting parents, grows up wanting for nothing in a fancy Florida suburb. Andy grows up poor in Philadelphia with a single mom and a rare talent that will let him become one of the best runners of his generation.

Over the course of three decades, through high school and college, marriages and divorces, from the pinnacles of victory and the heartbreak of defeat, Andy and Rachel will find each other again and again, until they are finally given a chance to decide whether love can surmount difference and distance and if they’ve been running toward each other all along.

With honesty, wit, and clear-eyed observations about men and women, love and fate, and the truth about happy endings, Jennifer Weiner delivers two of her most memorable characters, and a love story you’ll never forget.

My review:
First of all, can I just say how pathetic it is that I haven’t read a book since April? Sad, sad, sad. Honestly, there just hasn’t been anything out there that has piqued my interest, but I knew Jennifer Weiner was coming out with a new book in the summer, so I held off.

I’m glad I did! Jennifer Weiner’s newest novel did not disappoint and was just what I needed as a post-baby pick-me-up. It was an easy read but an enjoyable one, and I finished the book (which I had bought and downloaded for my Kobo the day it was released) in just over a week! Not bad considering I only read it while I was nursing Norah; I even switched lamps around so I had better lighting and could see the screen, that’s how much I liked the book!

While the ending was rather predictable, as it is with the majority of romance stories of any form, I couldn’t help but still cheer for the two main characters, Rachel and Andy, to find their way back into each other’s arms. Their story of high school romance hit close to home for me, with Kyle and I being high school sweethearts, and I found myself with my fingers all crossed for them to cross paths just one more time.

What don’t I like about the story? Not much, however, I do wish that we got to know a bit more about Andy and his background. His “chapters” were more subdued, just like his character, and I wish more was revealed about his background. Still, I couldn’t help but love the way things worked out for both him and Rachel in the end.

Overall, I’m going to give Who Do You Love 5 stars out of 5. I can safely place it amongst my top three favourite Jennifer Weiner books.
