Four Months

4 Months

At four months, Norah:

  • Weighs just about 17lbs! She’s a smidgen heavier but slightly shorter than Isla was at the same age, but Norah’s right on track and more or less average.
  • Had her 4 month immunizations last Friday and handled them very well! She cried for maybe 5 seconds after the needles until the health nurse started blowing bubbles, then she was distracted by that and completely forgot that she just had two pokes. The nurse was impressed!
  • Has mastered rolling over! Nowadays when she gets bored of being on her back, she just rolls right over with no struggles. She’s only rolled back onto her back a couple of times so far, but I’m sure she’ll get that figured out soon!

  • Loves, LOVES not having any pants on! As soon as you take them off for whatever reason she gets super excited and starts kicking her legs like crazy, lol. She also loves being in the bath tub and splashing like crazy. I think I may have a future nudist on my hands ;)
  • Is drooling like crazy, but no signs of teeth just yet. I have a feeling she’ll teethe the same way as Isla did: teeth teasing her for 3 months before they actually show up. Time will tell, I suppose, but I feel bad for her because she’s obviously uncomfortable.

I:

  • Have yet to start my Couch to 5K training. There are some serious motivation issues.
  • Hate my hair so much. It’s falling out like crazy and I’m starting to think that bald may be a good look for me. I was supposed to have a hair appointment next week but I cancelled it because it’s just falling out SO MUCH. I told my hair dresser I’d call her when I start to look like a human again.
  • Bought the girls matching jammies for our Christmas card photos. Now it’s just a matter of taking them, which will happen sometime next month. I have no idea what company I’m going to order them through though. I’ve used Vistaprint in the past but have a $20 off coupon for Shutterfly, so maybe I’ll try them? We’ll see!

Weekend Update

Friday
Norah had a rough night and I made the silly, rookie mistake of staying up too late watching bad-yet-entertaining movies (Pitch Perfect 2 and Magic Mike XXL), and ALL of the coffee was definitely needed. Norah had her 4-month immunizations that morning, so I dropped Isla off at Kyle’s grandparents to make the trip easier.

Norah did awesome and we finished at the health unit way sooner than I had thought, so I stopped at Starbucks and treated myself to a salted caramel mocha and a chocolate croissant before picking Isla back up for lunch!

My mom picked Isla up later in the afternoon and had her over for dinner. Norah and I caught up on some bad TV before her big sister returned. Kyle also came home from his hunting trip later that evening, so it was nice to have him back!

Saturday
Isla had dance class at noon, so the morning was spent puttering around the house. I made a quick stop at Walmart for a few things while Isla was in class, and then when she was done we headed down to my mom’s for lunch before heading out to the pumpkin patch to get our Halloween pumpkins! Isla had a blast going through the patch and probably would’ve brought every pumpkin home if we had the room in the car.

Sunday
Sunday is always a pretty routine day for us since Kyle was heading back to work the next day. I got my weekly meal plan done and we headed out to the store to get the grocery shopping done. We lazed around for most of the afternoon and after dinner we went down to Kyle’s grandparent’s for dessert as they’re leaving on Tuesday for their annual snowbirding trip. We won’t see them again until April! After that it was bedtime for the girls and Kyle and I relaxed with some Netflix before heading to bed ourselves.

How was your weekend? What was the last bad (but oh, so good) movie you watched?

Grateful

Grateful

On Friday Kyle and I went and voted at an advanced polling station for our federal election. The line up was long and therefore, so was the wait, but we did our civil duty. A couple folks in line were muttering cuss words, one guy realized he was in line for the wrong polling station and wasn’t happy to find out his error, etc.

That evening, after we can come home, we were talking about how long the line up was and how some people were complaining about the wait, but we stopped and realized that while our wait took a while (about 45mins), at least it was peaceful. We’re lucky to live in a country where we don’t have to fight for the right to vote, where we can stand in line and not risk being attacked physically if we vote for a certain party. There are far grater (and graver) things going on in our world today where a wait to peacefully vote for the future leader of our country seems minuscule and petty.

That being said, today in Canada is Thanksgiving. (Bet you didn’t see that segway coming, did yah? ;) ) Perhaps it’s the post-pregnancy hormones raging through me, but this year its seems like I’m especially touchy-feely and emotional. That conversation with Kyle got me thinking about all the wonderful things I have going on in my life, and how my “problems” really are first-world ones. Oh boo-hoo, my big house isn’t big enough. Oh darn, my nice, reliable car isn’t big enough. Ugh, my happy, healthy kids are wanting my attention. You get my point?

Like I said, I don’t know if it’s my hormones because I normally don’t get all worked up at Thanksgiving and reflect like this, but I am so unbelievably grateful for everything in my life. I have an amazing husband who works his butt off so I can stay home and raise our two amazing little girls, we have a roof over our heads and never have to worry about staying warm or going hungry, and we can go about our daily lives without the fear of being attacked for voting one way or another. Despite the ridiculous spats that Kyle and I get into, the acting out Isla does, or the repair bills that may pop up unexpectedly, things could be so much worse.

So this year (or next, for my American readers), while you’re standing in line at the polling stations, perhaps grumbling under your breath about waiting in a long line, be thankful for how good we have it here in North America, and be grateful for the things that matter most.
