Monday Morning Quicky

So I woke up this morning and realized I didn’t prepare a blog post for today. Oops! Really, I got nothing but a few quick bullets.

– Daphne’s ear has been sure sensitive and sore lately and when I looked at it last night it was all nasty. A trip to the vet today or tomorrow is in store. :( At least I won’t have to pay emergency fees. Those are EEEK-PEN-SIVE.

– Kyle and I are slowly preparing to buy a house of our own! We made a list of everything we’ll need for our house as far as kitchenware and such goes. The list is actually quite short!

– A guy who went through the self-checkouts at the grocery store last night needed help and to get my attention, he called me “Waitress.” Umm, okay.

– I finally made my amazing muffins yesterday! Prepare for a tasty Friday Food post at the end of the week!

– I just realized that there are three computers in my living room, all working, plus my XBox. I’m pretty sure this is a household full of nerds.

– I’m loving the amazing summer weather that’s come around! It’s suppose to be about 26º C today! (That’s about 79º F for you south of the border!) I have the desire to shop for cute summery cloths and flip-flops.

And now, a random picture of my Mom’s cat, because he’s crazy:

Happy Monday! :)

Reflecting on the final year

It has been approximately one year since I finished my undergrad degree. ONE YEAR! It’s hard to believe that I’ve been out here in the real world, doing my thang for a year already.

My last year of university was a whirlwind, to say the least. I started my job as one of the news editors for the university paper, I met Canada’s Green Party leader, I moved in with Kyle, I travelled east for the first time and I partied hard, all while completing my degree!

These photos are from September 2008, when the federal election was going on here in Canada. A group of us went out to practice our die-hard journalism skills, staying up until 1 a.m. to meet and scrum with Canada’s Green Party Leader, Elizabeth May. (The Green Party is more or less the “Environmental” party of Canada) It was also Melissa’s birthday, so we celebrated that as well!

We had a pretty awesome Christmas party for the school newspaper, enjoying delicious tapas and drinks before heading to the boss’s house to play a little DDR and Guitar Hero like the nerds we truly are!

After the new year and barely a week into the new (and final!) semester, the gang from the newspaper ventured to the Canadian Prairies to visit freezing cold Saskatoon for the Canadian University Press Conference. I shall warn you now, the entire trip was more drinking and partying than learning about the paper, but Melissa and I did tour the Saskatoon StarPhoenix, which was pretty awesome, and we saw some odd sights, like a statue of Ghandi. Also, I realized that I know I’m drunk when I start flashing random hand signals and gang signs. In this case, it was “W” for “Wizard”, the nickname we lovingly gave the horrible DJ at the wind up gala.

Finally, there was the Year End party, filled with singing, dancing, drinking and good times. I sure miss these people sometimes but I bump into them from time to time. Oh, and I also discovered I act like a pirate sometimes. Oh, and did I mention horrible U-Brew wine sipped from coffee mugs?

Yep, those were the days! Do I miss school? Sometimes, but somethings are better left as memories :)

Do you ever miss school, if you’re not in it anymore? If you’re not, do you think you will?

Bullet Wednesday

While I know that I don’t have to write a post when I have nothing, I feel obligated to. So, taking the baton from Amber’s post yesterday, I present to you the random thoughts of a bored person:

– I still haven’t heard from the person in regards to this post. I’m getting worried, but plan on emailing him today. I’m preparing myself for the worst, because it shouldn’t take this long to get back to someone, especially if it went well!

– I signed up for the 20SB Blog Swap! You should too! I’m kinda looking forward to it :)

– Kyle and I were really hoping to get a decent tax return so we could buy a new mattress set, but no such luck. He had to pay a buttload because of EI and I suck so I didn’t get that much. After all is said and done, we’ll be getting about $200. Oy. At least we’ll be able to put it into our house fund. The old mattress will have to do for now.

– To elaborate more on the mattress, when Kyle first moved to Kamloops he had a twin bed. We’re both bed hogs (me more than him!) and after one night, it just wasn’t going to work, so he found a discount place and got a queen-size set for $350. That bed has seen better days by now! I did some browsing at a mattress store and the sales guy made me try the Bowling Ball Mattress. Womp womp! Now I REALLY want a new bed, but we just can’t afford one at the moment.

– I get to see my grandparents today! They were snowbirding all winter and they’ll be in town tomorrow to catch up on Dr. appointments and such, so I’m meeting them for lunch :) I’m so excited!

– I have bought about eight Tim Hortons coffees and have yet to win anything for the Roll up the Rim contest. Boo-urns. That being said, the mocha I just downed is making me feel sick.

– Actually, I’ve been feeling sick a lot lately.

– I’ve yet to contribute to the In It to Gym It site. I’ll get there, I just need to think of something brilliant to post about!

– My birthday is in a month and I’m pretty excited about it! Party my pants off? I think so!!

And now for a random picture of Tanner (my mom’s Lab) and Daphne from 2007, because they’re my favourites:

Happy Hump-Day!
