WTF Friday 5.0

Last Friday, I almost died. While vacuuming. Not even joking.

Okay, maybe I’m joking a little, but still, I wish someone would die. Her name is Edith and she’s like that little old lady in that Drew Barrymore/Ben Stiller movie The Duplex who just won’t die. Except it’s not a better house that I want (although I do want one of those), it’s a vacuum. Meet Edith:

She’s about 25 years old, which I think dates back to the Triassic period in vacuum years, and I. Hate. Her. I want a new, sleek, sexy vacuum that doesn’t have electrical tape holding her together SO BADLY, but since this is Kyle’s mom’s and she won’t give it up, I’m stuck with her. “Why buy a new vacuum?? This one works perfectly well!” Yes, perfectly well if the electric tape holds the spliced wires together and the plug-in stays together.

So back to my near-death experience. I was vacuuming away, about 1.5 songs through my house cleaning routine when I went to pull Edith along to vacuum the living room. Her cord was a little tangled, so I pulled a bit more when there was a huge spark and Edith stopped sucking. (Har har har!) Scared shitless, realize that Edith’s cord had snapped in two right at the base. “Great,” I think. “She’s dead! NEW VACUUM!” Except I figure that I should try and fix her just to say that I tried.

I managed to bare enough of the wires to try and twist them back together to get Edith to work again. I plug her back in, turn her on and NOTHING. I was excited yet horrified at the same time. Excited because I’d be able to get a new vacuum but horrified because the MIL loves that stupid vacuum and has issues with holding onto things. I unplugged her and tried again. Success! Expect why did I try fixing her? WTF was I thinking? Now I’m still stuck with her, Edith, the crazy bitch vacuum in the closet who just won’t die. Maybe I should pay off the mob to put cement around her hose and throw her into the drink. Or maybe I should just get myself one of these:

Happy Friday! I hope it doesn’t “suck”! (LOLZ)

Ten on Tuesday

1. If you could trade lives with another blogger for a day, who would it be and why?

I really don’t think I can pick one, because they’re all so unbelievably freaking awesome. I’ll do a rotation of all my favourites.

2. Do you prefer receiving handmade or store bought gifts? Be honest!

Handmade gifts have more thought put into them, but sometimes I think to myself, “Cute, but what the hell am I going to do with this!?”

3. Would you rather camp or stay in a hotel?

I love both, but I think if it were for a long period of time (like more than one night) I’d say hotel! Personal hygiene always wins.

4. What’s your favourite comfort food?

Macaroni & Cheese, hands down.

5. You’re having a really bad day at work. How do you unwind when you come home?

I ask Kyle for a big hug and then I pour myself a drink. Horrible, but sometimes a big Caesar is all I need!

6. What’s your favourite chore? (Or, the chore you hate the least)

Laundry, minus the putting away part. At least I can toss it in the machine and forget about for an hour before I actually have to do something about it!

7. What got you interested in blogging?

The first time I started blogging it was to get out of a written project for one of my university courses. Now, it’s just to let my thoughts and randomness flow.

8. Are you currently reading a book? What is it?

I’m in between books at the moment but I just bought Hope in a Jar by Beth Harbison and I’ll eventually get around to reading it.

9. Do you have a favourite artist?

Oh, you have to be more specific than that! Musical artist? Visual artist? I’m just going to answer “No”, purely just because I have certain tastes as opposed to artist preferences.

10. Have you ever met someone famous?

This would probably mean nothing to most of you, but I’ve met Kenny Florian of UFC fame. That was pretty awesome. I’ve also met Lorne Cardinal from Corner Gas. (If you’re Canadian and don’t know about this show, get out of the country)

Happy Tuesday, and Happy Birthday to my little brother!

We're too cool for school!

Weekend in Photos

My weekend started on Thursday (well, not technically, but it felt like it with a little work in between!) with a quick brunch with B, her sister and Lilly while they were on their way back up to Fort St. John.

Unfortunately, the restaurant was slow and I had to rush through my meal, but it was great seeing little Lilly again. She’s too freaking cute, even though she spit up all over my work clothes. Thank God I live close to the restaurant so I could change before I left for work!

Love my little niece! <3

Friday was a bit of a write off for work, but I did keep busy in the morning with laundry, vacuuming with Edith (more on her in a post later this week!), and a coffee date with A.

On Saturday Kyle, my mom and I headed back to out hometown for the annual Rodeo and Parade. In a nutshell, Ashcroft’s population doubles during rodeo weekend and it’s absolutely a gong show. My mom’s side of the family all comes down, up and over to my grandparent’s place and we just drink, eat, laugh and have an amazing time. The parade is one of my favourite parts, so I’ll share some photos:

Delicious homemade bannock, a rodeo staple!

I'm afraid of horses, so this huge Clydesdale did not sit well with me!

The Hare Krishna's live just outside of town and they're always so happy and cheerful during the parade!

I didn’t go to the actual rodeo (I haven’t in years!) but my grandparents live right down the road from the grounds so we can here the hooting and hollering from the crowd and announcer.

Sunday I worked at the grocery store, so it was pretty uneventful!

Hope everyone had a great weekend, and tell me, Have you ever been to a rodeo?
