I’m Spoiled

Kyle’s always been a little crazy when it comes to gift giving. (Not that I’m bragging) He’s also horrible at keeping surprises from me. So, as a result, I came home from work yesterday to this:

Taken with my cute little Sony Cybershot, lol

To try and surprise me, Kyle asked me to “help” him get something out of the back of his truck. We went outside and he said he was going to grab something for our little storage closet and asked me to open up the back door of his truck. When I did, this little beauty was sitting there waiting for me to love it! Oh man, do I ever!

So this is my early Birthday/Wedding present from Kyle, and I couldn’t be more excited! I can’t wait to (re)learn all the functions on it. I haven’t played with a DSLR since J-School, so it may take a while.

I’ve wanted a Nikon D90 forever – It’s like my dream camera, so for Kyle to get me one is sooooo amazing.

I’ll leave you with the first shot I took with her: (Yes, the camera is a “she”, and she still needs a name)

Of course I’d take it of Daphne!

Not bad for full-automatic mode! She’s looking a little scruffy though.

Do you have a dream camera?

The Joys of Strata

Last night our strata complex had our Annual General Meeting for 2011. It was my first strata meeting EVER (obviously) and I wasn’t too sure what to expect, kind of.

Last August when Kyle and I were seriously interested in buying the townhouse, we were given the minutes from the past two AGM’s just to see how anal people may or may not be. There was one name (for all blogging purposes, we’ll call him “Jeff”) that was repeatedly mentioned, but it turns out he was on the other side of the complex of us, so we went for it and bought the place.

Now, back to last night. As the unofficial spokesperson of the household, I went to the meeting and Kyle stayed at home. Last year’s meeting lasted about one and a half hours, so I figured this one wouldn’t be so bad. Wrong, wrong, wrong! It lasted an  hour longer than expected, only because we only had the room booked until 9:00 p.m. I’m sure it would’ve been longer!

Jeff was the main reason why the meeting lasted so long. He argued every little point, and it seemed like this was his “thing” because most of the other owners moaned and groaned when he’s say, “Now what about ….” or something similar. It was kind of amusing, actually. I was just glad I wasn’t the only one wanting him to shut up. I’m pretty sure Jeff is an original owner from when the townhouses were built in 1977, I’m not even kidding, lol.

So, overall, the Strata meeting was long, exhausting, but informative. It made me feel like quite the grown up, considering I was the youngest owner there. The president and other council members were really nice and for the most part, everyone in the complex seems awesome. Not bad for my first meeting, and I’m sure it won’t be my last :)

To the Big League

This is my special announcement that I had mentioned a couple times!

Kyle got a new job at a MAJOR production mine right outside of town (about 40 minutes). He’ll be welding up a storm at his dream job. Working at this place is like a goal for anyone with a trade living in the area. The wage and benefits are freaking amazing. Full medical and dental? Yes please!

Kyle had the job interview in November last year, but we kept it hush hush until we knew exactly if and when he got the job. He passed the interview, passed the medical exams, passed the aptitude tests and got a letter in the mail saying he would start as soon as there was a vacancy. That vacancy showed up a couple weeks ago, but because the job is union, it had to be posted internally for a week. Boo! That was the longest week ever!

But, last Wednesday he got the call, and he starts at the end of this month! We’ve been calling this his call to the major league. Today he’s giving his notice to his current employer. :(

I’m not going to lie, it’s going to be hard to adjust to everything at first. He’s going from a Monday to Friday job to a 4×4 shift with two day and two night shifts. Also, the drive to work will be twice as long, although there are a lot of carpool opportunities, and it’s just a BIG PLACE. Kyle’s also really going to miss the people he currently works with. They’ve been amazing to him, especially his bosses, so the next two weeks is going to be hard.

Also – because of the 4×4, it just so happens to work out where his first day shift is the day of our wedding … I have no doubt that his future boss will let him have the time off, but we can’t help but panic a little bit. Everyone I know who works up there says it won’t be a problem, but you never know! He’ll have a different foreman than them, so who knows. Fingers crossed!

So there you have it! My special announcement – no babies included!
