Bloggerstock: Potential Postcards

Hey All! Today’s post is from Coyote Rose for Bloggerstock. It’s posted for your reading pleasure below:

******

So the Bloggerstock theme this month was: “If you could write ONE postcard to any person (living or dead), who would you write to, what would you say, and where would the postcard be from?”

And i thought long and hard about it. I mean there are dozens of people i would like to write too. But when it came down to it Marie Antoinette was the winner.

Why would i want to write to a spoiled, pompous queen, who cheated on her husband and ultimately got beheaded?

Because I feel sorry for her. For those who read my blog, you know that I have my masters in European History. One of the very first papers I wrote was about Marie Antoinette and her influence on French Politics. I was using a book of translated letters between Marie Antoinette, Her Mother the Empress Maria Theresa of Austria and the Austrian Minister in France, Comte De Mercy-Argenteau. The poor little Austrian Princess Marie was married to her second cousin and shipped off to France at the age of 15. I mean can you imagine being carted off to a foreign country, where you barely know the language and married to a chubby, smelly arrogant, toe-rag of a french boy at the age of 15? I mean it kinda sucked for her.

Plus her mother was a total tyrant. The Empress Maria Theresa had spies watching Marie every hour of every day. The poor girl couldn’t sneeze without her mother having an opinion about it. Furthermore, mommy-dearest was trying to use her daughter to gain political control in France. I mean Maria Theresa basically told her daughter to pitch a hissy fit when it looked like France was going to go to war with Austria. She would have told her daughter to withhold sex, but Louis XVI had some sort of sexual dysfunction, so Marie barely slept with him anyways.

Anyways, I would send poor little rich girl, Marie Antoinette, the postcard above from present day Versailles with the note:

Love what you did with the Palace, but take a long vacation to Austria in the beginning of July 1789 otherwise you just might lose your head.

Seven Quick Takes

So I figure I’d do 7 Quick Takes today, since I have a zillion + 1 things to say but no desire to write a separate post about each one. Here we go!

~ 1 ~

Our paperwork has all been cleared and Kyle and I are now officially HOMEOWNERS! *insert happy dance here* We take possession on September 3rd, so that gives us about a month do organize, pack and shop for things our little home will need. I’m a little excited about the shopping part, not going to lie! I have a feeling the month is going to either drag on forever or go by quickly. I can’t figure it out! The paperwork seemed to take forever.

~2~

I was able to cross off another thing to do on my 96 in 1096 list yesterday: Play a team sport! Kyle broke his finger back in June and he had just signed up to play slo-pitch in a beer league with the Roommate. Instead of taking back his sign-up fee, I took his place! The last game was last night, and I’m kind of going to miss playing! I’ll definitely see about signing up again next season.

~3~

One of my BFF’s just broke up with her boyfriend – again – for the zillionth time. (Okay, maybe the 8th time?) I wish I could just tell her that the relationship is poisonous, but I just can’t. The killer thing? They JUST moved in together for the 2nd time (The last time they moved in together they broke up too) AND they signed a lease on the apartment. Ugh. I can’t keep up with that girl. I may sound like a horrible friend, but I’ve stopped caring when they break up. I can’t only sympathize for someone so many times when it’s the same guy. After a certain point, you’d think it’d be common sense not to pursuit the relationship again. Am I wrong for not caring anymore?

Random post-draft update: Apparently they’re not broken up? I’m confused … I give up. I haven’t dealt with something this dramatic ever. Not even in high school. But I went to a boring (for the most part) high school. Moving on …

Oh! Because I’m getting my own house, you know what that means? I don’t have to deal with Edith anymore! Yay! Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to go buy the vacuum of my dreams. Okay, maybe not of my dreams, because I’d loooove a Dyson vacuum, but I can’t spend $600 on a vacuum. But there’s a decent one on sale at Wal-Mart for $80, so that’ll do! Goodbye Edith! I won’t miss you!

I subscribe to Cosmopolitan and it  took FOREVER for my magazine to get here this month. I seriously thought that it wasn’t going to be delivered and was 100% ready to write a “What the Hell??” email to Hearst Magazines and demand an explanation. THEN! My book that I ordered, “Stay” by Allie Larkin, arrived and I was super stoked since it only took 3 days to get here. (Gotta love XpressPost!) I was so distracted by the quick arrival of my book that I didn’t even notice that my magazine was tucked under the book in my mailbox. Woo! It was like Christmas.

~6~

I have my first full day off of work since Canada Day tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited! I had originally asked for the whole weekend off to go to Vancouver for a family reunion (on my Dad’s side of the family) but my boss only gave me one flippin’ day. Since I can’t go to Vancouver and back in one day (and because the family dinner is on Sunday) I’m just going to enjoy the day. Kyle and I are thinking about taking the dogs for a hike, or maybe to the dog beach.  As long as I enjoy the day! Maybe we’ll celebrate buying a house finally since the paperwork is done.

Kamloops had its first close-call wildfire the other day and it was scary-close to burning down homes. People were put on evacuation notice (but not actually evacuated). It seems to be a common occurrence in B.C. during the summer, and it shouldn’t be. The majority of the time the fires are started by people being careless – a discarded cigarette butt out a window or an unattended campfire. There’s now a campfire ban in the Kamloops area, two weeks before we’re suppose to go camping, but if that means I’m not going to accidentally burn the city down, I’m okay with that!

Have an awesome weekend guys!

Career vs. Job

The other day, as I muttered that I hate Job #2, my friend C (who’s dating the Roommate) told me that I should hate Job #1 and like Job #2. I asked her why should I, when Job #1 is my career and Job #2 is the supplemental job.

My career (Job #1) is what I went to school for. I enjoy my work there and know that I’ll eventually get a position within the company that I’ve dreamt of doing, be it writing, layout or something similar. I don’t hate my work there by any means. I don’t have to work weekends or evenings. I don’t have to fight with 20 other coworkers for a day off.

My side job (Job #2) is my ball and chain, so to speak. It ties me down and all I want to do is run away from it screaming, but I can’t. I need it to survive. I’d living less comfortably if I didn’t have it. I hate mostly everything about it: The drama, the immaturity of some of my co-workers, the union B.S. and so on. (Job #1 is union too but it’s far less political than #2). What keeps me sane at this place is a few select coworkers who make me smile and the paycheck I get at the end of every week.

Maybe what also makes me loathe Job #2 is the fact that I’ve already quit and restarted twice. The first time was for a better paying summer position and the second time was because I got a career job but then my hours there were cut and I needed a supplemental income. Every time I think I’m done working there, something drags me back. I’m just waiting for the day I can finally say “Sayonara!” to that place.

I haven’t had a full day off of work since July 1, although I get one on Saturday (although I asked for the whole weekend off of Job #2 to go to Vancouver, but didn’t get the time, another reason why I hate that place) and then again on the 7th (same story).

Job #2 is wearing me out, making me more cranky and bitter than someone my age should be, and just plain old horrible. That’s why I don’t like it. That’s why I love Job #1, my career, so it’s not really a job at all.
