Today I Love …

I got the idea to do this post from Amber, who got the idea from Caitlin for Change the Way You See – Not the Way You Look Week

It’s all too easy to look in the mirror and see nothing but flaws. I know, because sometimes, that’s all I seem to do. A little belly fat here, a little weird body hair there … it all makes you self conscious.

It’s interesting; the same day I stumbled upon this amazing idea to promoting loving yourself for who you are, Kyle told me that he never notices all the little flaws I seem to find in myself. He said that the only time he ever notices is when I’m picking or poking at something on myself. This just made me think: I need to love myself more.

Today, I love my  shoulders and arms. Sure, they’re out of proportion to the rest of my body, but they’re wonderfully strong. My shoulders are there for someone to cry on, my arms are always open for a hug when you need it.

My ginormous arms and shoulders are courtesy of my dad’s side of the family, where they’re not petite, fragile Chinese women but wonderfully healthy and stocky. Chow women are strong women!

I’m ready for the gun show, to point out which way the beach is and to point out the gum on my shoe. I love my arms.

What do you love about your body today?

Ten on Tuesday

1. What is your current favourite television show?

It’s summer, so all my REAL favourite shows aren’t on, but I’ve kind of been enjoying Rookie Blue. It’s a fairly decent Canadian show I think!

2. Apple juice or orange juice?

Apple juice, as long as it’s fresh pressed. I used to work for a place that grew apples and made their own fresh-pressed apple juice. It was so freaking good, like drinking an apple.

3. It’s Shark Week on Discover Channel. Do you watch? Why or why not?

No, because I never remember when it’s on and I’m usually too busy with work. *sigh*

4. What are the non-blog websites that you visit regularly?

Facebook and Twitter. (Those count, right?) I usually visit TheProvince.com when I’m at work too for news.

5. What is your favourite way to prepare green beans? Asparagus? Potatoes? Carrots?

Green Beans: Tossed with EVOO, garlic and a hint of black pepper then stir fried.
Asparagus: Steamed.
Potatoes: Anyway!
Carrots: Boiled.

6. What is your favourite flower?

Gerbera daisies, for sure. They’re so pretty!

7. How do you feel about handkerchiefs?

Gross. Why could you want a ball of snot accumulating in your pocket?

8. If you could only shop at 3 stores for the rest of your life, what would they be? (You probably should include a grocery store.)

Costco, Wal-Mart and Save On.

9. If you could only use wine for one purpose for the rest of your life, which would you choose? To cook with or to drink?

To cook with. I’m not a wine drinker, but I’ve cooked with it in the past.

10. What’s your bedtime?

Usually around 11:00 p.m.

Happy B.C. Day!

Today is a holiday here in British Columbia, but I have to work (Silly Job #2). Anyway, I present to you some fact on  B.C., taken from the Province of B.C.’s website.

  • B.C.’s population was 4.405 million people as of December 2008.
  • The top 10 languages spoken are now (according to the 2001 Census): English, Chinese (including Cantonese and Mandarin), Punjabi, German, French, Tagalog, Spanish, Italian, Korean, and Dutch.
  • Each year, over 40,000 immigrants from around the world arrive in B.C.
  • B.C.’s total land and freshwater area is 95 million hectares, larger than France and Germany combined. Only 30 countries are larger. British Columbia occupies about 10 per cent of Canada’s land surface.
  • B.C. has nearly 1,000 provincial parks and protected areas, attracting about 20 million visits every year.
  • Today, 14.27 per cent (or more than 13.5 million hectares) of British Columbia is protected – more than any other province in Canada.
  • British Columbia is Canada’s third-largest generator of hydro electricity, providing some of the lowest power costs in North America. The province is also Canada’s second-largest natural gas producer, and the oil and gas industry continues to see tremendous growth, particularly in north-eastern B.C.
  • British Columbia is the third-largest film and television production centre in North America – after New York and Los Angeles. (We call BC “Hollywood North!”) Some movies filmed in B.C.: The A Team, X-Men, Juno, Romeo Must Die, Shooter (filmed at Kyle’s friend’s ranch!)
  • We also have a lot of famous people, such as Pamela Anderson, Michael J. Fox, Steve Nash, Seth Rogan and more!

Happy B.C. Day fellow B.Cers! Any trivia I missed?
