Friday Bullets

  • I am absolutely exhausted and have no energy to do anything. I blame whatever illness I seem to have at the moment. Awesome phlegmy throat sickness. I just want to take a hit of Nyquil and sleep.
  • I am so done with April Fool’s Day. (Who made the rule up that it only goes ’til noon? THANK YOU!) Luckily, I was not pranked by anyone. There were a lot of clever ones out there though! (*cough* Amber *cough*) My best April Fool’s joke I think was when I put Saran Wrap over the toilet bowl when I was little. My dad didn’t think it was so funny though …
  • Kyle has survived his first set of work at his new job! It’s quiet the adjustment, but I think he’s starting to like it!
  • I get to see Mel tomorrow and I’m pretty excited about it! We’re going geocaching and I’m also pretty excited about that.
  • On Monday my wedding will be two months away. AGGG! (I just figured out that it would’ve been a hilarious April Fool’s joke to tell everyone that the wedding is off. Oh well!)
  • The weather outside is rather dreary. The other day I was geared up to buy patio furniture and drink margaritas. Today I want to have a hot bath and just focus on staying warm (Again, that’s probably just my sickness talking)
  • While I enjoyed Grey’s Anatomy last night I’m still not too sure how I felt about all the singing. Dr. Hunt signing was just awkward. Same with Carev. And Sloan. Okay – the only person who’s singing I liked was Torres’.

Thank freaking-GOODNESS it’s Friday!

What did YOU think of Grey’s last night?

Did you pull any pranks or have any pulled on you?

To Scale or Not To Scale

There’s a certain stigma attached to the weight scale. It tells you that you’re too fat or too thin. It makes you panic and the numbers adjust to what you may or may not weigh. Worst of all, it makes you feel uncomfortable in your own body.

I have lived scale-free for years. When I lived with my dad, he had a scale, but I tried my hardest not to use it. All I feel is paranoia when I step on the scale.

My weight seems to fluctuate around the same mark since I graduated from high school. I’m blessed with good genes and no one in my family is overweight, just big boned thanks to our Chinese heritage (My biceps are abnormally large compared to the rest of my body!). But that scale? I hate it. Kyle’s mom has one and whenever we visit and I always cave and weigh myself.

When I was in high school and played soccer, I weighed around 115lbs. About a year and a half ago I weighed about 127lbs. Sometime around (Canadian) Thanksgiving was the last time I weighed myself, and I think I was somewhere around 123lbs. Today, I have no idea.

Which brings me to the point of this post: Should I buy a scale of my own or should I just “wing” my weight? Part of me says to keep winging it. Part of me says to keep on track and don’t get too crazy since I want to be able to fit my wedding dress properly when I get it altered next week. I also don’t want to exercise and watch what I eat only to have the scale not budge an inch, especially an inch in the wrong direction.

I think the scale only brings more pressure onto ourselves. I believe in the “If it feels good, do it” mantra: I’m going to do what I like and eat what I like, when I feel like it. I also believe that you should take everything in moderation, which is why you won’t catch me doing one-hour workouts at 6:00 a.m. in the morning, or crash dieting on celery, boiled chicken, and egg whites. You will, however, catch me accidentally eating a carb-loaded energy bar after a workout instead of loading up on protein. Live and learn friends, live and learn!

What are your thoughts on weight scales in the house? Are they a demon that glares at you everytime you look their way, or are they a blessing that cheers “Way to go! Only x more pounds to go!”

From now on, I think I’ll answer the question, “How much do you weigh?” with, “Enough to feel good about myself.”

WTW: Herr Doos/Crunch Time

The wedding is 66 days away! Not that I’m counting; the ticker on our wedding webpage told me so. Ha!

Actually, having a website is really handy for out of town guests, and it’s easier than stuffing the invite envelops with bits of paper with directions scribbled on them. Less stuff for people to misplace or lose!

Anyway, with just over two months to go, I’m starting to feel the stresses of wedding planning a bit more! I feel I need a giant white or chalk board above my kitchen table with a “Things Still to Do” list. Like, getting the marriage license (the government building is right now the street from Job #1), finalizing the important songs for the reception, finding a rehearsal outfit, making the favours, buying stuff for centerpieces, and oh my word – figuring out how I want my hair styled.

In day to day life, my hair is “styled” one of two ways: Blow-dried straight & parted down the middle or slicked back into a ponytail or bun. Having ridiculously straight, silky hair is actually a curse. It doesn’t hold a shape AT ALL unless I use a gallon of hairspray, at which point my hair turns into a helmet and it gross and crunchy.

Since the day I found my dress I’ve been trying to decide how I want my hair. Up? Down? Half up & half down? Ugh. I’ve been searching everywhere on the Internet for ideas and saving them in a folder for when I go for my consultation with the hairdresser, but nothing screams “me”, yah know? If only my veil would just stay in my hair without it having to be “up” somehow. Figuring out how I want my hair is even more frustrating than finding bridesmaids dresses.

Those are the styles I’ve found and liked thus far. (Yes, I found them around the internet. No, I can’t remember where I found them.) Right now I think I like the last one the best. What do you think?

The last time I had my hair done up all fancy was for my prom. Which was … a while ago.  I’m basically at a loss.

HELP!
