Ten On Tuesday

1. What is a food that you never thought you would try, but then tried and liked?

I’ve tried a lot of weird foods that sounded gross in my mind but turned out to be delicious. Bird’s Nest Soup, for one, is AMAZING, but when you describe what it is, it sounds horrible. Click through that link! Believe me, that soup is GOOD!

2. Do you subscribe to any foodie publications? If so, which ones?

I get a Kraft “What’s Cooking?” magazine every so often, but that’s about it. I subscribe to a few foodie blogs though, it that counts. (Of course it does!)

3. What ingredient do you find yourself reaching for the most when you cook?

Salt! Haha, or dill. But most definitely salt.

4. Are there any foods that you hated as a child, but then learned to like as an adult?

Yams. But now, I only like them in fry format.

5. What do you like to eat that others may consider weird?

“Real” Chinese food, lol. My dad makes dim sum for me every now and then and Kyle usually doesn’t join me because he thinks the food is weird. I think it’s delicious!

6. What is the weirdest ingredient you’ve ever cooked with?

I don’t think I’ve cooked with any weird ingredients, to be honest. Tofu is pretty strange, but lots of people have used it.

7. Do you have any major food allergies?

No, but sometimes lobster makes my skin itch. Only lobster though, not other shellfish.

8. Is there an ingredient that you would like to cook with, but are intimidated to try?

I would love to make my own Indian food, but I’m worried about making way too spicy and not being able to eat it! One day … one day!

9. Do you bake?

Yes, but not elaborate things like Angela (I’m so jealous of her baking skills!). I make the odd loaf of banana bread and a batch of muffins every now and then.

10. If you could go on any “foodie” show to compete, which one would it be, and why?

None of them! I’m not gourmet enough to go on Iron Chef, and I’m pretty sure Gordan Ramsay would make me cry on Hell’s Kitchen. I’d love to be a taste-tester though!

Deprived

My laptop is currently at the doctor’s getting fixed. I feel a little lost and deprived without my precious laptop, but I’ve been surviving on my cellphone’s internet connection and Kyle’s desktop PC.

I feel bad for not giving you a WTW post this week, so I’ll give you a mini update today!

Monday morning I got a call from the bridal salon and they told me my dress was in!! I went down the next morning with my mom and tried it on and let me tell yah – I did NOT want to take it off! We picked out a gorgeous veil (which, for the record, will NOT be covering my face AT ALL, lol) and left everything in the care of the salon until my appointment with the seamstress on April 4. Apparently that’s a little early to be fitted, mostly because they’re concerned about weight gain or loss. I’m pretty sure I’m going going to go and loose a bunch of weight, I just want to be more toned.

Also new this week: Kyle got his new truck on Monday and it’s AMAZING! I took a crappy cellphone photo of it but I’ll take a better one in the future and post it. For now I’ll just tell you that it’s a Ford Ranger FX4. I love it! I can’t wait for my car to become the “carpool car” when Kyle finds a carpool for his new job, just so I can drive the truck around. Woo woo!

We also went on a mini-date last night to the movies, which was great because we haven’t gone out with just the two of us in a while. We had a “Couple’s Night Out” gift certificate from Kyle’s aunt & uncle for watching their house while they were away, so it was a perfect inexpensive date! It actually only cost us $0.80 since I wanted butter on my popcorn, lol.

I think that’s all I have to share with you for today! Hopefully my laptop is back today so I can catch up on my blogging :)

Happy Thursday!

Ten on Tuesday

1.  What condiments are always, always in your fridge?

Ketchup, mustard and Miracle Whip! There’s some random sauces and salad dressings too, but those three are staples.

2.   How do you like your steak cooked?  Your burgers?

I like my steak cooked medium rare and my burgers, well, cooked! I’m pretty sure we don’t have a choice on how we want our burgers cooked in Canada. I freak out if there’s the slightest bit of pink in my burger.

3.  What’s your favourite use for fresh tomatoes?

Greek salad! I can’t wait ’til it’s hot outside so I can have a nice, cold salad on the patio. Mmmm!

4.  What’s your go-to dinner when you haven’t planned anything in advance and you don’t feel like going out?

Usually potstickers and rice. Not particularly healthy, but it gets the job done.

5.  What’s your favourite snack food lately?

I love popcorn! I always put a little Salt & Vinegar or Dill Pickle flavouring on it though.

6.  What’s your favourite weekend breakfast to make at home?

Kyle and I always have bacon and hashbrowns, and I usually make a poached egg too if I have time.

7.  What’s your favourite thing to grill?  How do you do it?

Cheeses? I kid! I really enjoy fish grilled the best. Delicious!

8.  What’s your favorite wine for under $10? If you’re not a wine person, what brand of beer is your favorite?

Haha, I’m not a wine OR beer person! Sorry :P

9.  Give us your most delicious cocktail recipe.

I’m right out of those. I’m not a cocktail making kind of gal I guess! I do make a darn tasty Caesar though when I have the right ingredients. For the most part, I just buy the pre-made mix.

10.  How do you like your eggs?

Poached or sunny side up!
