Monday Thought Dump

There’s been a lot of stuff stewing up in my brain cavity lately. While I am currently having a brain fart and cannot gather enough words to dedicate an entire post for each thought I figured I’d just dump them all in a lovely bullet-style list.

– Between the federal election and a municipal referendum, I feel like I’m all voted out. I’m glad that I don’t have to see campaign signs or be flooded with PSAs on social media. While I won’t get into how exactly I voted, I will say that my ballot helped pick a winner in one and lost in another. I’m curious to see how each decision pans out either way. (Vague, much?)

– I’m a believer in “If you don’t like what you see, change it.” That being said, some things you can’t change, like what people choose to post on social media. In that case, I make the decision to unfollow or minimize the stuff I see from that person.

– I cannot decide if I want another kid or not. Even before Isla came into the world I had wanted three kids, but now I’m wondering if maybe two is enough. My heart is so full, but there are days when I think I can make room for one more. There’s a misconception over why I may or may not want another as well, and I fully intend go write a full post on this in the future. (I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before.)

– I don’t plan on being a stay-at-home mom forever, but I don’t know what I want to do once I’m ready to reenter the workforce. Journalism in this city isn’t particularly a viable career option anymore, but I’m either under or over qualified for everything else I’m interested in. Aside from going back to school and completely retooling myself, I’m stumped. (And I can’t even wrap my head around how I’d manage being a “mature” student with two kids.)

That’s it for now. I’ll leave you with an honest photo of the girls and I.

Questions & Answers

I’m borrowing this fun little Q&A from Krysten today. Sometimes you just need a silly little Q&A post at the end of the week!

1. Why do you blog?
Mainly, because it’s easier for me to express my thoughts and feelings in writing than it is out loud. But, I also do it because I love coming across other bloggers who have the same thoughts and interests as me. I’d love to meet more of my favourite bloggers one of these days!

2. What’s your favourite pastime?
I really enjoy reading, when I have the time to do so. I could probably lounge around all day and read a book if I had the time!

3. Do you have any pets? If so, tell me about them!
I’m pretty sure anyone who follows my blog on a regular basis knows about Daphne & Campbell.

Feb24

Campbell is a loveable block-head pit bull that we adopted two years ago through a rescue group. He’s a sweetheart and loves all the people in his life, he just wants to love them with every ounce of his 85lb body all at once, and that’s where it gets interesting. Your best bet when meeting him? Ignore him completely. I really believe that he feeds off of other people’s energy. Cesar Milan could probably work wonders with him, I’m sure. He loves Isla and Isla loves him, happily getting him off his bed in the morning, yelling, “CAMEL!” (Isla-talk for “Campbell.”)

Daphne is our old, cranky Alaskan Malamute. She’ll be 10 in the fall and is definitely showing her age, but she occasionally has bursts of puppy-like playfulness. She’s much better around new people than Campbell and loves to just get her “face too close” to new friends. (Something everyone who’s met Daphne has experienced!) In the winter she loves to lay outside no matter how cold it gets.

While I love having two dogs, I think that when Daphne passes, we’ll stick to having one dog. We’re not “small dog” people and dog food costs a lot of money! (And two big dogs = twice as much big dog-sized poop to scoop. Yuck.)

4. If you had the option of going to the desert, ocean, or mountains, which would you choose hands down and what time of year?
That’s a tough one. I’d maybe go to the ocean during the winter to escape the cold. My second choice would be the mountains in the summer, as long as there was a lake there. I love lake life!

5. Is blogging your full time gig? If not, what is?
I wish I could blog and make money! My full time gig is being a mommy.

6. Sweet or savoury?
I can’t choose just one. I have a major sweet tooth, but I love savoury meals too.

7. Where did you grow up?
I grew up in the little town of Ashcroft, BC, population: 1,200. There’s no stoplights, one gas station and not a Starbucks for miles. Back when I was a kid is was a great place to raise a family, but unfortunately, it’s starting to go downhill as the population grows older and the younger generation moves away. I still visit at least twice a year though.

8. What is or would be number one on your bucket list?
Travelling to Ireland and/or England, as well as China. I’d love to see the countries where Kyle’s family and my family originated.

9. What kind of music do you normally listen to?
Usually Top 40, and almost always at least a month or so after they hit #1. What can I say, I’m behind on what those damn teenagers are listening to these days ;)

10. Bright colours or neutral tones?
Neutrals with pops of bright colours.

11. Tell us one thing about yourself your readers don’t already know.
Starting in about grade 4 and all the way throughout high school, I was an avid soccer player. I played every season in the recreational league and played on the girl’s soccer team in high school. I even coached a U7 team one year. In grade 12, I was the co-captain of the team. I really miss playing soccer and my cardio is DEFINITELY NOT where it once was, but one day I’d love to lace up the cleats and play again.

Now it’s your turn to answer the questions – or you can pick just one of the ones from above and answer in the comments!
