Listy Friday

Lists are fun, aren’t they? They’re also a great way to get a quick blog post in without getting too in-depth with things.
  • Today is actually NOT my Friday – Yesterday was! Today Kyle and I are heading to Kelowna to meet and greet our potential new pup! We’re really hoping it all goes well and his personality matches Daphne’s okay, or at least Daphne tolerates him. I’m sure it will work out though!
  • My Grandma’s recovery is going REALLY well! She’s moved down to the “rehab” floor, where the nurses and staff are working her butt off getting her better. She’s had so much improvement over the last week, it’s amazing. I’m so proud of her progress – she’s a tough woman and just won’t give up!
  • As of Monday I will be the only pregnant woman at work. A co-worker who is also expecting starts her maternity leave on Monday, so it will just be me waddling around the office. I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but I do wish her all the best as she awaits the arrival of her second lil’ one! (I’m betting it’s a girl :))
  • Since I’m writing this Thursday, I will note that I took/am taking a 3-hour crash course in “How To Use My DSLR Camera” last night (Thursday night) with my awesomesauce wedding photog Jo. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot and will be able to take better shots and get more use out of my camera!
  • Winter just won’t seem to let up. The past couple mornings there’s been a little skiff of snow on the ground. Boo. The first day of spring is next week, so I’m hoping that will be the end of it! I really want to start wearing flats and sandals, because I’m getting too pregnant to put boots on. It takes way more effort than it should.
  • My favourite author, Emily Giffin’s,  new book, titled “Where We Belong” comes out July 21! I seen it available for pre-order online Wednesday night and it got me all giddy. Then I got all sad because I have to wait 4 months to get it.
  • I’m really sad that the season is over the The Walking Dead. Season 2 was SOOOO good, I can’t wait to see what Season 3 brings! I’d say more but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who may have not watched the episodes yet.
  • I think I’m getting pregnancy carpal tunnel. Or just retaining more water. My fingers feel fat, achy and downright horrible. I check my wedding and engagement rings everyday to make sure I can still take them off. I’ll be sad if I have to get them cut off!
  • My plan is to make these Chocolate Zucchini Muffins that I originally spied on Kyla Roma’s blog sometime this weekend. They look SOOOO good, and I’m hoping Kyle likes them. If not, more for me, right? Right!
  • I really don’t understand the Willy Wonka memes I see floating around Pinterest, mostly because I find Willy Wonka to be a little creepy, however, I did find this one quite amusing:
*giggle snort*
That’s all I got for today!
What are your weekend plans?

Guilt

I’m going to start knocking on wood now, because you can never be too sure …

Guilt is a funny thing and it hits you at the strangest times. Like how tossing out a giant chunk of leftover lasagna that’s been in the fridge for a week makes you think of starving children. Or driving to work in your nice, warm, heated seat car while people are waiting for the bus in -30°C weather.

For me, when I learned I was pregnant, I had a huge wave of guilt. I felt guilty that it only took three months of trying after being on the pill for eight years to conceive because I know so many people, in real life and through blogging, that have been unsuccessful in many ways. I’ve heard about so much loss that I just feel guilty being happy around them.

To me, it’s like I’m rubbing it in their face. For some, the wounds are still fresh, still very real, and still hurt so bad. I don’t like to bring up my own pregnancy, whine, gripe or groan about it. Hell, I even feel marginally uncomfortable being around them.

For those who have healed and let things be, I still feel guilty. It’s like saying, “Hey, remember that one time … oh wait, no, you wouldn’t.”

I know the last thing people want it a pity party and for me to pat them on the head and say “There there, it will be okay,” because it won’t necessarily will be. I can’t imagine how I would feel if I was never able to conceive or if I did and wasn’t able to carry to term, or even worse … carry to term and lose a newborn. It’s unimaginable and I don’t think anything could ever come close to that pain.

I just don’t know how to act or react around these kind of situations without feeling guilty.

How would you feel?

Ten on Tuesday

This week’s ToT questions are all about baseball, and while I don’t actually watch baseball, I do (well, did, before pregnancy) play slo-pitch, which is basically a sissier version of baseball. I’ll base my answers off of that knowledge!

1. What is the most exciting thing to see on a baseball field?
Probably insane catches in the outfield. There’s nothing more amazing than watching a fielder catch a fly ball and wondering “How on earth did he catch that?!”

2. What snacks do you usually get at a game?
I generally don’t get snacks. Usually I’ll buy sunflower seeds for when I’m playing. Nothing like filling the dugout with sunflower shells!

3. Do you yell at the umps? Other players?
No, I’m usually pretty reserved. Hockey games, however, are a different story, lol.

4. If you could be commissioner for a day, what would you change about MLB?
I’ll say nothing since I know nothing about the league.

5. Which of the following have you seen in person at a baseball game:
a. a rainout? Nope! We play in all weather.
b. a no-hitter? Not in my beer-league, we’re not that good, lol.
c. a grand slam? A couple, but again – beer league!
d. your face on the JumboTron? Ha – no way Kamloops can afford one of those.
e. a squeeze play? I don’t even know what that is …
f. a fight? Almost – We once got a little scrappy with our opponent because they wanted to keep playing even though a) They were losing to us pretty badly, and b) It was too dark to play. We prevailed. It was WAY too dangerous to be playing ball!

6. What do you say to people who claim that baseball is boring?
You’re probably right, but it’s way more fun to play!

7. What do you think of the recent trend of singing “God Bless America” during the 7th inning stretch?
I’ve never heard of that, but I think that’s bizarre. Why? Would they sing it if they were playing in Toronto? (I’m thinking about the Blue Jays but can’t remember which league they actually belong to)

8. Old school “knickers” or full length pants?
Pants, all the way. Old school looks hilarious though.

9. What do you do about the obnoxious drunk guys/girls sitting around you?
Ignore them, for the most part. In beer league, they’re everywhere!

10. For a game you’re watching in person, what’s your limit on extra innings? How many before you just bail?
I think I’ve only played one game where we had to go to an extra inning, and I’ve never actually watched a game with one. I will note that I watched a hockey game with 4 overtime periods, and it was getting a little ridiculous after they went into the 3rd OT. Luckily, my team won in the end!
