Listy Friday

These past couple weeks for me have been completely jam-packed with sh!t to do and there’s a swarm of stuff on my mind. It has left me feeling extremely overwhelmed and more stressed out than I’d like to be, but hopefully all will resolve itself. In the meantime, let’s rewind a little, shall we, and I’ll let you in on what I’ve been up to in the past week …

– Last Friday I took my exam for my insurance license. I felt OK going into the exam, but with all the stuff that’s been going on in my life (which shall not be mentioned quite yet), it was a little hard to focus. I ended up missing the grade required to pass by 6%, so a re-write is in the future for me. It was a bit of a let down and I’m super disappointed in myself, but now that I know what kind of stuff is in the exam, I’m sure I’ll do fine next time.

– Also happening on Friday was the start of the tear-out of our old carpet. We’ve been wanting to replace the carpet on the stairs and in our bedroom since we bought the house, but never got around to it. Now that Campbell isn’t so destructive (knock on wood), we decided to pull the trigger and have new stuff installed. Kyle got all the carpet ripped out in 2 days, and today the installers will be showing up to put in the new stuff! By the end of the weekend, my house should be back to normal and we’ll have gorgeous new carpet! (A blog post will follow sometime next week showing exactly what was going on and why exactly we needed it replaced)

– On Saturday I headed to Vancouver for Callie’s bachelorette party! It was a looooooong day for this old lady – I woke up at 6 a.m. just out of the blue (nerves for the drive, maybe?) and left Kamloops around 8:45. I made pretty good time considering the awful rain I had to drive through and arrived at the hotel we were staying at around 1:30 p.m. After checking in, I met up with the girls on Robson Street as they were finished up a variety of dares. Once that was done it was back to the hotel to relax and unwind for a bit until one of these showed up to serve us drinks and orchestrate some fun, silly games. Then it was time to get ready to go out for dinner here followed by dancing here. We turned in around 3:15 Sunday morning, and I got up at 8 a.m. so I could grab something to eat and head back to Kamloops by 10. ME SO CRAZY. It was an exhausting weekend, but the bride-to-be had a blast so that’s all that matters!!

Bar None

– After I returned to Kamloops on Sunday I had a little 1 1/2 hour break before Kyle, Isla and I hit the road for Ashcroft for a birthday party! One of Isla’s friends turned 2 on Saturday, so they were celebrating at the pool on Sunday. Isla had a ton of fun playing in the pool and then playing with all of the kids at the barbecue afterwards. We got home around 8 p.m. and by the time I got Isla to bed (without a fight to boot), I was ready to pass out. It took me at least 3 days to catch up on my sleep. I’m definitely not the young party animal I used to be, I tell you what!

– On Wednesday there was a wicked storm that passed through town and something along the lines of 20mm of rain fell in 30 minutes, causing crazy flooding and water damage all over the city. Sometimes living on top of a hill has its benefits, because my house and yard was unscathed by the rushing water, but I guess there’s always soil erosion to worry about, haha.

– Other than having carpet installed today and tomorrow, I have zero plans for the next little while and I’m SO grateful for that. I really need to just relax and not worry about all the crap that’s going on. We’ll be heading to the lake for a day after the August long weekend, so that should be wonderfully relaxing. Until then, I’m taking Kyle’s orders of not doing much and napping while Isla naps very seriously ;)

That’s about it for today. Kind of sad when new carpet is the most exciting thing going on in your life, but I guess that’s what happens when you’re an adult. So please, tell me, What’s new with you these days? Any exciting weekend plans?

Listy Friday

– I think this weekend is the first weekend in a while where we don’t have any crazy plans lined up, although I’m sure we’ll find a way to make ourselves busy. Kyle and I have been contemplating hitting up a round of golf on Saturday as a belated anniversary date, so we’ll see! It all just depends on if my mom can look after Isla for us.

– While we didn’t do anything super fancy, Kyle and I did have a nice evening for our anniversary on Wednesday. I baked him a cake, and he brought me home the most beautiful flowers and my favourite pasta salad (dorky, but I love it!). But, in true “me” form, I ended up botching dinner by misreading the cooking time and we didn’t eat until way later than normal, and I forgot to sift the flour for the cake so it in itself ate like a meal.

– The amazing woman whose yoga classes I’ve been going to for 9 months has decided to step away from instructing. While I’m sad that she won’t be offering more sessions going into the summer, I’m glad that she’s stepping back so she can care for herself. If there’s one thing that yoga has taught me, it’s to centre yourself and be one with who you are. I wish her all the best and happily await the day she returns!

– On that note, I’m now trying to decide what route I should take to continue my practice. I’ve really come to love yoga, but I have a limited schedule between Isla and making sure she has someone to watch her while I attend classes. I think I may just go with the punchcard route, as opposed to an unlimited pass to a centre. I’ll have to do some digging and find the right place for me.

– My blog domain expires in a couple months and I’ve been thinking long and hard about whether or not I want to rename my blog. I’ve had the Chatter domain for about 5 years now and I feel as though I’ve grown out of it a little bit. I have a few ideas of what I’d like to “rebrand” my blog as, so we’ll see what happens come August. My biggest hesitation is just the pain of having to update all my links and crap across the interwebs. (I’m lazy, what can I say?)

I think that’s about it for today! Next weekend is my high school grad reunion, and I have a blog post lined up for next Friday to commemorate the occasion!

Have a wonderful weekend! What are you plans?

Listy Friday

I don’t think I’ve done a random “life update” post in a while, so I figured I’d make today a list day :)

Last week I signed up for another 12 weeks of Beginner Plus yoga. I’ve really been enjoying my once-a-week escape and just relaxing for an hour! Plus, the venue where classes are held is so relaxing, and our instructor brews delicious tea for everyone. It’s just heavenly. AND during a class a couple week ago we were flowing into headstand pose and I actually made it into the pose, with a little help from Carrie. I thought for sure I was going to topple over, but I managed to hold the pose just long enough for a fellow classmate to snap a quick photo:

Sorry for the crumby iPhone photo

In that same class we also got into crow position – a position I didn’t think I’d be able to do this year, but low and behold I certainly did! I’m just going to toot my own horn a little bit and say I’m surprised how much I’ve progressed  since I started going to yoga last fall. I just wish I had the time to go more often!

Isla has been a busy little girl lately! I don’t know if she’s getting a little cabin fever from being inside most of the winter (I don’t blame her), but she’s just in “go-go-go” mode all the time! Since the weather has been a bit nicer we’ve been spending more time outside taking little strolls up and down the sidewalk. We’ve also visited the park a couple times, which is great because she can just wander wherever she wants and I don’t have to worry about cars or buses flying past us. On Wednesday we chased some geese before I realized the baseball diamond they were on was way muddier than it looked. I really can’t wait for summer to get here so we can have more outside time!

Last weekend Kyle had a “guy’s night,” so Isla and I escaped to my mom’s overnight. Sometimes, it’s just nice to let boys be boys and not have to listen to them talk about welding and whatnot all night long. Isla and I had a nice time relaxing at my mom’s – with the exception of bedtime for Isla. She wasn’t so keen about sleeping in the pack-and-play, and I’m sure that being in a new space didn’t help either, because she screamed for about an hour at bedtime, terrified. She eventually wore herself out and fell asleep, but she really did not want me to leave her side. Poor girl. Needless to say, we were both happy to come home on Sunday and sleep in our own beds.

Last week I started to repaint the ensuite bathroom off of master bedroom. It was the third and final phase in repainting the room – we started with the bedroom itself, then did the closet, and finally did the bathroom. It took me three days to paint the tiny space – when you only have a 2-hour window to get a room painted, it takes a while. On Monday I did the first coat, Tuesday was the second coat, and Wednesday was for touch-ups and putting it back together. I was super stoked to finally have all my painting done, and then Kyle accidentally scraped the wall with his fingernail while hanging his towel up and THE PAINT PEELED OFF THE WALL. I mean literally, peeled off. You could grab the edge of the paint and pull it away like a layer of plastic. Cue stressed out tears. There was now a hand-sized patch on the wall where the original brown paint was happily chilling out, unscathed. We’re not too sure why this happened, but we think it has something to do with the moisture in the room. So, on Thursday I touched up the patches (again), and then put a space heater in the room to help the paint cure. We left it like that all last weekend, and I think the paint is OK now, but we’re still super nervous about touching the walls. If it peels again, we’re going to have to strip the walls and sand them before painting – AGAIN. Fingers crossed people, because I’m so DONE.

Saturday evening I’m heading to a play with a couple of girl friends, and it will be Kyle’s first evening being in charge of putting Isla to bed. We’re planning a trial tonight, so we’ll see how it goes! I’m sure he’ll do just fine :)

On Monday I get to go to the periodontist and have a gum graft. Oh the joy. I have a receding gum line and my dentist had been suggesting that I go see a specialist for a couple years, and last fall she finally said, “You need to go see a specialist,” instead of, “It wouldn’t hurt to get a consultation.” Ugh. So back in December I saw the specialist and it was determined that I’d need grafts on the lower half of my gums on both sides of my mouth. YAY! So on Monday, I’m having the first half of the procedure done. I’m sure I’ll be a miserable mess, so feel free so send happy thoughts my way. And liquified solids. (May I also take the time to mention that I’m SO thankful for the dental plan Kyle has through his work.)

Finally, I just want to thank everyone who gave me some positive feedback and encouragement on Tuesday’s post. I’ve been diving into my textbook every chance to get and it practically feels like I’m in school again: Binders, highlighters, new pens, self tests, MOODLE. It’s going to be an interesting venture, but I’m ready for the challenge and a fresh start in a new career.
