TGIF v.28

A high of the week was that it was Family Day in BC on Monday, so that meant that Kyle had an extra day off and a short, three-day work week!

A low of the week was Norah barfing down my shirt. That’s always fun. Also, Isla finished up her swimming lessons but didn’t pass onto the next level. :( I thought for sure she would and I’m bummed for her, but she did have a lot of fun and she did progress a LOT during her 10 lessons.

An internet find I loved was this video of a t-rex on a trampoline:

The best money I spent was on a new pen for my day planner. (How lame does that make me sound?) It’s one of those pens that has four different ink tubes and you can switch from one colour to another. I’m pretty excited about it and my planner is going to be sooo much easier to read.

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was Norah pulling herself up to standing on Wednesday. I can’t remember what I was doing, but I looked over and there she was!

That look on her face is hilarious and totally sums up her determination.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Pony” by Ginuwine. I totally blame Lip Sync Battle. Man, I miss the 90’s.

My meals of the week were:
Monday: Ham dinner at Kyle’s mom’s
Tuesday: Jambalaya
Wednesday: Meatloaf with mashed potatoes & stir fried green beans
Thursday: Homemade Shake & Bake chicken

My plans for the weekend are a quick doctor appointment for Norah today, nothing on Saturday, and on Sunday Kyle is running his first road race (a 10k one to boot!), so the girls and I are going to be cheering for him at the finish line!

What was your favourite meal of the week? What are your weekend plans?

Two’s plenty, three’s a crowd … or is it?

madhouseNorah had woken up more times than normal the night before. She didn’t want to go down for a nap. I was tired, physically and emotionally. Frustrated, I put Norah down in her crib so I could leave her room and calm myself down, walked out to the living room where Kyle was, and announced to him that I was done having children.

“I’m done with having kids. No more children.”

Of course, making that kind of decision out of frustration isn’t something that Kyle would let me do, but at that moment in time, I just felt it. And bless Kyle’s heart, because he has told me that he’s done after two kids and he very well could have skipped off to Dr. Snippy so I couldn’t go back on my statement. The fact that he didn’t just goes to show how much he cares about me and doesn’t want me to decide on something so permanent when I’m having a moment of defeat in parenting.

Was it a bluff? Not in particular. Am I seriously done having kids? Well … I don’t know. There are most definitely moments where I’m screaming in my head, “That’s it! I’m done! NO MORE!” and then the following day the girls will turn my heart to mush and my uterus gives me the ol’ wink wink nudge nudge and I think, “Ah, what’s one more?!”

Except having three kids is a total game changer and the decision to have “just one more” is proving to be a lot tougher than the decision to have a second child. I know everything right now is just a phase, just like it was when Isla was an infant, and that if/when we have a third Isla will be in kindergarten so that will alleviate some of the chaos at home, but it doesn’t make things easier, per say.

For one, we’d need to upgrade a lot of things in our lives. Goodbye, small, compact car that I can zip around easily in. Hello, behemoth minivan that better come with a rearview backup camera because MOVE OVER, MOMMA’S COMIN’ THROUGH!

Then, there’s the whole “Where do they all sleep?” issue. While I have nothing against room sharing, I know they can’t/won’t want to share a room forever, so we’ll eventually have to upgrade our house to something with more bedrooms. Space is fairly tight as it is right now but we’re managing okay; adding a fifth body will make things a little too cozy for our personal likings.

And of course, all three of them are going to be brilliant and will want to go to med school, so there goes any plans for an early retirement. Goodbye, snowbirding. Hello, second mortgage!

I know all of this makes us sound horribly selfish but sometimes you have to look at things with your head rather than with your heart, and I think that’s the point I’m at right now. If I were to draw out a Pros and Cons chart, the cons would most definitely outweigh the pros. In fact, I can’t think a good reason why I want a third, other than the fact that I don’t feel done having kids yet. I don’t even want to have a third just so we can “maybe” have a boy. I’ve discussed this before, but having a boy isn’t a big deal to neither Kyle nor I.

In time we’ll make our decision together, when I’m not about to pop a blood vessel because Norah has been fighting her beauty rest and she’d rather scream in my face than get some shut eye. For now, we’re content with our two children and having an equal parent to child ratio. If number three is in that crystal ball somewhere, we’ll make room and love him or her just as much as numbers one and two.

Weekend Update

Monday again already? Time is just zipping by, and I cannot believe it’s already February 1!

Here’s what we got up to this past weekend:

Friday
It was a pretty quiet day, really. I decided to go for a 30-minute run on the treadmill Thursday night and was really feeling it the next day! I ran about 2.2 miles and I figure that’s not too bad considering how inactive I’ve been since finding out I was pregnant with Norah! I’m thinking that if I run at least once a week I’ll be in decent shape to run a 5K in April. (Or at least that’s what I’m going to keep telling myself.) We had barbecued pork chops for dinner and they were amazing! I cannot wait for the weather to get warmer so we can utilize the barbecue more often.

Saturday
Isla had dance lessons and I did the grocery shopping while she was in class. My mom met up with us at the studio and we headed to a new(ish) Vietnamese restaurant that I’ve been dying to try. The food was AMAZING and I’m definitely going to be a repeat customer. I had salad rolls, chicken skewers and a vermicelli noodle bowl and I was stuffed! Isla really loved the salad and spring rolls. I also had a bite of my mom’s chicken pho and it was SO good. I’m drooling just thinking of it.

After lunch my mom took Isla for a sleep over at her house, so it was just Kyle, Norah and I for the afternoon! We lazed around the house and dropped Norah off at Kyle’s mom’s for a bit so we could go enjoy a kid-free dinner! We didn’t go anywhere fancy, but it was nice to get out and be adults for a little bit! I had a cheeseburger and it was SO good.

I felt like I was really winning in the food department on Saturday, haha.

Oh, and a woman also came to look at my piano Saturday morning. I decided to sell it as it’s just taking up space and I never play it anymore, nor do I anticipate Isla or Norah taking up interest. In the end she decided it wasn’t for her, so if you or anyone you know needs a piano, just let me know! ;)

20160131_184238Sunday
We had no special plans for Sunday. Norah had a rough night of sleep and we ended up being lazy for most of the morning. My mom brought Isla back in the afternoon and Kyle’s aunt and uncle stopped by for a visit as well. Kyle cooked up an amazing roast for dinner and I’m looking forward to having the leftovers in a sandwich for lunch!

Isla got her first bloody nose Sunday night. She was in her room sitting improperly in a chair, and she fell into her bookshelf. She didn’t break it, but it certainly didn’t feel good! Luckily she got over it in a hurry and was back to being chaotic as usual.

Oh, and here’s a picture of Norah and Campbell because why the heck not? Norah has discovered the magic that is the dogs’ food dishes, so I spend half my time making sure she’s not tipping the water dish over or eating their food.

How was your weekend??
