Weekend Update

Happy Tuesday! I hope everyone had an excellent Easter weekend and didn’t indulge too much in the Easter chocolate. We had a lovely weekend, both productive and busy!

Friday
Kyle’s sister was visiting for the weekend so we went down to his mom’s place for Easter dinner. I baked an apple pie for dessert, partly because I was just in the mood to bake a pie and I figured if I took one down to share with everyone it would save me from eating the entire thing myself. Basically, I took everyone down with my pregnancy craving ;)

Saturday
Kyle and I had ordered a new bed for Isla a couple of weeks ago, so we figured we better get her some new furniture to match. (Her old stuff is going back into the nursery for Baby N.) We already had redone a bookshelf for her room, so it was a matter of getting furniture to match that colour. We ended up buying the Aulum dresser & nightstand from Jysk:

Aulum dresser from Jysk

Kyle put the nightstand together and it took forever (partly because Isla insisted on “helping”), so we’ll probably put the dresser together this weekend. We wanted to spend some time outside, but the weather was so wishy-washy, we ended up hanging out inside.

After Isla went to bed the Easter Bunny got to work, filling baskets and hiding eggs …

Sunday
AKA – EASTER! The Easter Bunny arrived early in the morning and Isla was very excited to see her basket waiting for her! She doesn’t quiet understand Easter as much as she “gets” Christmas, but she’ll figure it out. The Easter Bunny brought her The Jungle Book on DVD, a new dress, a giant Kinder Surprise egg, Paw Patrol bubble bath, and a couple of puzzles. After she emptied her basket of goodies, we told her that there were eggs hidden in the living room. Once she learned that there was chocolate inside the plastic eggs it didn’t take long for her to hunt them all down.

My mom stopped by around lunchtime since the Easter Bunny “stopped” at her house with goodies for Isla, so Isla was spoiled some more with more chocolate and other goodies! (Stickers, pencils, a notepad, socks!) AND THEN later on that afternoon my dad stopped by with even MORE goodies for Isla – puzzles, CHOCOLATE, colouring books … this kid is so lucky! Needless to say, we all headed outside to burn off some of that chocolate-induced sugar buzz! We also went down to Kyle’s mom again to visit with his sister & play some bean bag before she headed back home on Monday. Kyle & I dominated and won all three games – Woo!

After Isla went to bed we FINALLY got around to watching the season finale of The Walking Dead. It had been sitting on our PVR for a week, so I was happy to finally be able to watch it! All I’ll say is – “Hmm …” It will be interesting to see what happens next season!

Monday
Kyle had to work but my mom was off, so we headed to Ashcroft to visit my Grandpa and Helen. We stopped at Kyle & I’s old place of employment, which had been closed for a few years but opened back up last year after new owners took it over. It was so surreal being back there and even seeing some familiar faces working behind the counter. We had a lot of great memories working there, so it was great to see it doing well again. I bought some local honey, as well as an apple pie and a loaf of herb bread. Really, I could have bought SO much more, but refrained. I’ll just have to go back to sample some more products ;)

We had a really nice visit with my Grandpa & Helen, and even though the weather wasn’t all that great, that didn’t stop Isla from “winning” a visit to the park right below the house. We didn’t stay for too long, but Isla seemed content with the amount of play time she got.

We headed back later in the afternoon since Isla’s new big-girl bed was being delivered around 6pm! She looks so tiny in her new bed, but she absolutely loves it! And it’s nice to actually be able to sit on her bed with her for her bedtime story instead of on the floor.

The only crumby thing is that Kyle and I told the “bed guy” that the mattress we were buying was going to be 11″ thick, so he made the gap in the headboard to reflect that height. We ended up buying a different, slightly thinner, mattress, and so it the gap is a little bigger that it should be. So far, no pillows have been lost behind the bed, so we’ll see how it goes.

Now we’re back to “reality” today, with dance class later on this morning, errands to run, and more baking to do. I woke up with a huge knot in my shoulder, so a trip to the chiropractor is definitely in order as well sometime this week.

How was your Easter Weekend?

Weekend Update

Let me just start off by saying that I’m shocked by the ridiculously amazing weather we’ve been having in BC lately. I’m loving the sunshine and feel so bad about those of you back east who are experiencing a deep freeze right now!

Friday
Kyle picked up an overtime shift at work, so Isla got to hang out at Grandma’s house for an extra day this week. She certainly didn’t complain as she really enjoys going there during the week while I’m at work! I was feeling super lazy when it came to cooking but had a big batch of leftover chili frozen in the freezer, so dinner was as easy as pulling it out in the morning before work and tossing it onto the stove come dinner time. You know how something taste better as left overs? This chili definitely lands in that category!

Saturday
Saturday has a bit of a back story: A couple weeks ago I thought of a grand idea of inviting one of Kyle’s friends up as an early birthday surprise (said friend has to work on his actual birthday). We had it all planned out for them to go to the gun range and Kyle didn’t know what was going on. Well on Tuesday Kyle comes home from work and says to me that there’s a major shut down at work and there’s a good chance of overtime on the weekend. I suppose my face said it all, because I ended up having to spill the beans Cullen coming to visit. It worked out so that Kyle didn’t wind up working OT, but still – surprises are NOT my forte!

That being said, we had friends come stay with us Saturday! Kyle and Cullen went to the gun range while I wandered around Costco with my mom & step-dad for part of the morning, and Clara (Cullen’s SO), tackled her to-do list on her own. Isla had actually woken up that morning with a snotty nose and a fever, so other than Costco, most of the day was dedicated to making sure she got enough rest and that her fever didn’t climb too high.

We/Kyle tossed burgers on the barbecue for dinner (again – warm weather perks!) and Clara had baked delicious raspberry-strawberry filled chocolate “zombie” cupcakes to celebrate Kyle’s early birthday! They were SO good!

I ended up going to bed early because I wasn’t feeling great and was tired from waking up at 6 a.m. (Boo to my inner alarm clock.)

Sunday
It was a rather “normal” Sunday, with the exception of Isla sleeping until 9 a.m. Normally she’s up around 7-7:30 but since she’s sick and was up for an hour around 3 a.m., she needed the rest. I was up at 7 anyway, Kyle got up around 8, and everyone else emerged around 9. We had a laidback morning and I eventually headed to Jysk for a curtain rod and to the grocery store for my normal Sunday shopping routine.

Cullen and Clara headed home around 2pm, so Kyle, Isla and I decided to get some Vitamin D and headed out into the yard. Isla was feeling pretty good (seriously – nothing slows this kid down!) and she jumped on the trampoline for a while before the sun was hidden behind the trees and the backyard lacked sunlight. We went for a little stroll through the neighbourhood before coming into the house, where Isla watched a movie and Kyle and I just chilled before making dinner. (Butter chicken!)

Showing us the "Gun Show!"

Showing us the “Gun Show!”

I skipped watching the Oscars and we watched The Walking Dead instead. I’m not sure how I feel about this season so far, but I’m interested in seeing how everything pans out.

That’s pretty much my weekend in a nutshell! Nothing overly exciting, but it was still really enjoyable! Isla’s still got a bit of a fever but she slept a LOT better last night than the night before, so I think she’s getting better. Next weekend should be just as good since it’s Kyle’s ACTUAL birthday on Saturday and we have more company coming to visit us!

How was your weekend? Are you having awesome, awful or just mediocre weather?

Weekend Update

What a weekend this was!

Let me start with a quick backstory: Kyle and I have been somewhat-seriously shopping around for a new car to replace my 2004 Ford Focus. While I love that car, she’s starting to show her age and I’ve been wanting to upgrade for a while now. Last weekend (on the 21st), we came across the perfect little 2009 VW City Golf in Vancouver, so we emailed to inquire about it. On Monday we got a call from the dealership that it was unfortunately sold, pending financing, and (of course) they’d keep in touch if anything else came available that we may be interested in. (Typical salesmen, no?) So Kyle and I continued the hunt, bummed that the perfect car slipped through our fingers yet again.

Then on Wednesday I get a call from the dealership again, saying that the financing fell through for the original purchasers and since Kyle and I were the next in line for it, it was ours! Of course, Kyle was at work and it’s hard to get ahold of him, but since we had previously talked about what we should offer and what our top dollar would be, I made the offer. The salesman said he’d talk to his boss, while I told him I’d get ahold of Kyle, and the salesman said he’d call me back. A few phone calls later, we had agreed on a price, sorted out financing, and on Thursday evening, Kyle was buying a one-way plane ticket to go get our new car Friday morning!

Let me just add how amazing my husband is: being in a big city is NOT is thing at all, so for him to fly down to Vancouver and drive back with a new vehicle is a big deal. I cannot say how proud I am of him and how much I appreciate what he did.

By 4:30 Friday afternoon, there was a new (to us) Volkswagen Golf in our driveway! Her name is Vera and she is SO MUCH FUN to drive around! She’s a wonderful upgrade from the Focus and the perfect addition to our family ;)

September 26

Other than the new car excitement, life in the Evans’ household is trucking along relatively smoothly.

Isla is fully entrenched in potty training, and while it’s a tough process at times, she’s getting there slowly but surely. We’ve had more successful trips to the potty than accidents and I’m glad for that. I know it will be a while until she’s completely out of diapers, but I’m proud of both her and myself for the progress we’ve made. Potty training was one of my biggest fears in parenting, so I’m happy with how it’s going.

The rest of the weekend was relatively quiet. My ball team had it’s last regular season games yesterday and this weekend coming up is the wind-up tournament. Fingers crossed we stick with our stellar record (11-1!) and do great during the tournament!

Isla also has her next level of swimming lessons starting on Sunday! I’m hoping that by enrolling her so quickly after swimming all summer that she’ll still enjoy the water and remember that it’s fun!

I’m also slightly embarrassed to admit that I’m already thinking about what I’m going to do for this year’s Christmas photos. Since last year’s were such a great hit I’m determined to live up to their awesomeness, but I’m drawing a pretty big blank in the creativity department. Not much on Pinterest is appealing to me, so we’ll just see how it goes I guess.

On a shameless note: if you haven’t heard of Influenster and like getting free stuff to try out, you should definitely check it out! You can click on the link below or in the sidebar (disclaimer, it leads to my profile and I get points when people click on it), and it’s so easy and effortless!

That’s really the sum of what I’ve been up to lately! I’m in disbelieve that October is right around the corner and that the fall weather is in full force around here. Not that I’m complaining; I love the cooler weather and can’t wait to start baking delicious treats for the holidays.

How was your weekend??
