TGIF v.3

The high of my week was getting two tickets to see Maroon 5 in Vancouver in March next year! They are actually a SUPER early Christmas present from Kyle. When I heard that tickets were going on sale in Canada I told Kyle that I’d love tickets for Christmas, and he was on board! Even better? Because we’re AMEX cardholders, we were able to get presale tickets on Monday, instead of having to wait for them to go on sale to the general public tomorrow. WOO!

The low of my week was nothing! I’ve had a really great week this week, with no lows worth mentioning!

A blog post I loved was nothing is really sticking out in my mind this week. Just a lot of recaps, for the most part, which I’m totally guilty of myself. One day I’ll post something meaningful, I swear ;)

The best money I spent was getting this shirt from Target for Isla. Is it not just the cutest shirt ever? And oh, so Canadian too ;)

My favourite Isla moment was her progress on potty training. I think she’s FINALLY actually ready to really start potty training, so next week we will be diving into it. Wish me luck; it’s been one of the biggest, nagging things on my mind lately, so I hope it goes well.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “All About the Bass” by Meghan Trainor. It’s so catchy, and after watching the classroom instrument version on Jimmy Fallon, I couldn’t get it out of my head.

My favourite meal of the week was an enormous feast that I put together Wednesday. It consisted of cucumber salsa, twice-baked potatoes via The Pioneer Woman, marinated steak & chicken (with homemade marinade), and Caesar salad (not pictured):

After spending most of the day in the kitchen, I declared Thursday, “Kara Won’t Cook” day ;)

My plans for the weekend are watching two of my favourite people get married!! I’m honoured by being a bridesmaid, and Kyle is one of the groomsmen and Isla is a flower girl! It’s going to be a busy couple of days, but we’re looking forward to it!

What are your weekend plans??
If you’ve potty trained your kids (if you have any, that is), how did you go about doing it? Tell me your methods!

And now for the obligatory Isla photo:

She’s “swimming” on the kitchen floor.

TGIF v.2

The high of my week was finding the time to do a quick 30 minute yoga series. I’ve been so stiff and sore lately that I really needed just a good stretch. When I was done I felt like I was inches taller! If you’re looking for a great online source for free yoga classes, check out Yoga Download!

The low of my week was being duped out of a car sale. Kyle and I have been in the market for a new (to us) car to replace our ’04 Ford Focus, and we had found a great car in Maple Ridge for a great price. We contacted the owner, made a deal on the price, and made arrangements to go get it on Saturday. Then on Wednesday the guy emails me and tells me “as a heads up” that he has someone coming to look at it on Thursday, so he’ll let me know how it goes. Apparently he didn’t mean it when he wrote, “We have a deal” on Tuesday. Long story short, we told him that we would no longer be making the 6-hour (round trip) drive down to buy the car. I was pretty bummed about it, but if the guy was an ass through emails, he’s probably a bigger ass in person.

A blog post I loved was this one on First Birthday plans by Colleen. She’s a lovely DIY blogger who lives right here in Kamloops, and her projects are so pretty and SIMPLE! I am not a crafty person at all but she makes everything so foolproof! Anyway, her adorable twins are turning 1-year old soon and I just love the theme she has picked out for their special day.

The best money I spent was on the Halloween costume I got for Isla, which I had mentioned in last week’s TGIF post. I put it on her just to make sure she would tolerate wearing it (because kids are weird), and she LOVED IT. She got so upset when it was time to take it off. I’m going to wait until Halloween to take post photos of her actually wearing it, but here’s the finished product:

Ridiculously cute, no??!

My favourite Isla moment was feeding the ducks at the pond on Thursday! We went to the park last week and didn’t realize how many ducks and geese were actually living in the pond, so this week I grabbed all the heels and scrap pieces of bread I could find in the house and we fed them. Isla thought it was great! I took a little video of our outing too, so enjoy!

My favourite meal of the week was the homemade pizza I made on Monday! Again, I forget to take a photo (because I try not to be THAT person, heh heh), but I promise, it was tasty! Homemade dough (via the bread maker because I made it while Isla was napping and my KitchenAid mixer is noisy), with all sorts of yummy veggies and ground beef on top. Nom nom nom!

My plans for the weekend are golfing tomorrow! Kyle came home from work yesterday and told me that his work buddy had made us a tee time for Saturday, which was a lovely surprise! I’ve only been once this summer, so it will be nice to be able to go again before the season really winds down. My mom also gets home from her holidays this weekend so I (and Isla) can’t wait to see her. I also have ball Sunday night, so I’m looking forward to that as well!!

TGIF v.1

I’m joining the TGIF ranks along with Stephany and Amber to do TGIF! I’m loving the somewhat structured wind-up post of the week. Like Stephany and Amber, I’ve also added in a couple of my own categories to those from the TGIF post creator, Cait. I don’t follow her blog at all but I may just have to now. (Thanks, Cait for starting something fun!)

The high of my week was definitely passing my insurance licensing exam! As I mentioned a while ago on the blog, I missed the passing grade the last time I wrote it by 6-stinking-percent. I really just wasn’t in the right state of mind to be writing the exam last time, so it really didn’t surprise me that I missed the mark. After rewriting it last week I felt MUCH better, and got the email on Monday stating that I passed!! My certificate will arrive in the mail in the next couple of weeks, and now it’s time for job hunting. I better bust out the iron and get those wrinkles out of my extremely ignored business attire. Ha!

The low of my week was finding out that our truck needs over $500 in repairs. Boo! I am, however, lucky enough to know a guy who owns a shop here in town and so far the service quality has been stellar.

A blog post I loved was this one by Holly at Scattered Words. It may seem like a simple date night recap post at first glance, but really, it’s so much more. I related to it so much because once you have kids, date night becomes SO much more than just being alone with your spouse.

The best money I spent was money I technically haven’t spent yet. I ordered Isla’s Halloween costume from a home-based business right here in Kamloops and couldn’t be any more excited! I’m not going to say what she’s going to be, but I will say that I’ve been searching high and low for the perfect costume and couldn’t be happier to have actually found it in town! There was one I found on Etsy but after shipping it was going to cost me over $60! (Plus I’d probably have to pay duty on delivery too – BOO.)

My favourite Isla moment was finding her and Campbell underneath my bed, hiding like a couple of partners in crime. They both KNOW they’re not supposed to be under there, but alas, that is where I constantly find them. (Isla especially, when I’m trying to get her to get motivated to do something. She thinks it’s HILARIOUS.)

My favourite meal of the week was barbecued mild Italian sausages with steamed carrots & broccoli and rice. I topped the sausages with this homemade barbecue sauce, which adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the spicy sausage! I didn’t take a photo of it, but I assure you, it looked and tasted amazing!

My plans for the weekend are getting the truck into the shop Friday morning, and then just enjoying the last long weekend of the summer! I’m looking to four days of relaxing with Kyle and Isla! There’s also no slo-pitch for me on Sunday so hopefully this darn bruise I’ve got on my wrist heals up and goes away!

What were your highs & lows of the week? Any fun plans for the long weekend?
