TGIF v.15

The high of my week was reaching the 30 week mark in this pregnancy, having a random visit with a friend while our kids played to their heart’s content, celebrating my Mom’s birthday, watching Isla’s face light up when I remind her that it’s dance class day.

The low of my week was no lows, really, other than Isla showing some heavy signs of threenagerism. She’s full of attitude some days and it gets to be a little ridiculous at times.

An internet find I loved was not a find, but my dear friend Melissa opened up her very own Etsy shop, Scribble Bee Designs. She’s an amazingly talented artist and her shop sells custom-made watercolour family portraits, inspired by (but not limited to!) baby-wearing. You should definitely go check it out! She’s even having a giveaway right now to help launch her shop, so be sure to check out her Facebook page to enter!

The best money I spent was on the following adorable matching shirt & onesie for Isla and her Baby Sister! I actually did my first bit of shopping for Baby N yesterday and picked up a “Going home” outfit, the onesie, and a sleeper. (Isla also got the Big Sister shirt, a tunic with matching leggings, shorts, and another shirt.)

My favourite Isla moment was her telling me to “Calm my tits.” She picks up on a LOT of my vocabulary and while I haven’t said this particular phrase in quite some time, she clearly remembers me saying it. Kyle and I laughed pretty hard, especially since I wasn’t freaking out (in my eyes, at least) when she said that to me.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “I’m an Albatraoz” by AronChupa. So stinkin’ catchy!

My favourite meal of the week was the Greek salad I made on Tuesday. I chopped up the veggies smaller than usual and they tossed some orzo into it for fun. BEST DECISION EVER. Who said pregnancy cravings were bad? That being said, I did by a giant bag of candy from the grocery store’s bulk section and devoured it all by Wednesday. Now that’s bad and I’m pretty ashamed of myself.

My plans for the weekend are looking at a house on Friday, a playdate at the park on Saturday if it’s nice (fingers crossed), and the usual Sunday errands (groceries, meal planning, etc!).

TGIF v.14

The high of my week was getting Isla’s hair cut on Tuesday. Her bangs haven’t been trimmed since mid-December and her hair was getting so long that it knotted SO easily. Have you tried to detangle a toddler’s hair? No easy feat! I was putting conditioner it in when I washed her hair just to make it easier to brush. Anyway, she got her hair cut on Tuesday, complete with trimmed bangs (I opted NOT to let them grow out), and about 2 inches taken off the back. Her curls are still there though!

The low of my week was a weird happening to Daphne. Sunday morning I heard Isla waking up so I got out of bed and helped her get onto the potty. After that, I went back into my bedroom to grab a sweater. Kyle was still sleeping, but Isla followed me in and Daphne got up to go out for a pee. I don’t know what exactly happened, but while I was getting my sweater over my head I heard Isla talking to Daphne and as I looked up I just saw Daphne fall over like a fainting goat. And then? She peed her morning pee on our nice, new carpet. I had to wake Kyle up because she was unable to get up and THERE WAS PEE. Kyle instantly thought she had a stroke, but she got up a few minutes later and there Kyle & I were, cleaning dog urine out of the carpet at 7:30 am. Joyous start to the day! Daphne is fine now, but man, having an old dog is tough sometimes.

An internet find I loved was the following YouTube video by College Humor, depicted what it would be like if Gandhi took a yoga class. Kyle had actually found it and made me watch it, and I laughed pretty hard, not because I’m one of “those” yogis, but because it just kind of goes to show how trendy yoga has become in some ways. (I will admit, I do own a lot of lululemon though, and I have no regrets about that!)

The best money I spent was $80 on stuff for Baby #2! I managed to find a used Ergo Performance (in green) & infant insert for $80 (A steal considering brand new those would’ve set me back about $180). A bonus was the Diaper Genie diaper pail the woman selling the Ergo carrier gave me for free!! She said she was purging and just offered it to me, otherwise it was headed to goodwill! We need a new pail because ours broke, and while I hadn’t decided what exactly I was going to replace it with, she saved me $35 if I had decided to get my own Diaper Genie. Score!

My favourite Isla moment was a completely unplanned meeting with a horse! We went for a drive just outside of town to drop off some deer meat at the butcher to have it made into pepperoni and there were a couple of horses at the fence feeding on hay. Isla saw them and wanted to go see them, so I figured, “Why not?” She calmly walked up to them and one of them approached the fence to sniff her. It was pretty cute! Isla got a little apprehensive about the horses after that (personal space was invaded a little), but she thought it was great. I didn’t mind either, although I’m sure the horses could sense that I was nervous, because the “friendly” one wouldn’t let me pet it. Ah well.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Centuries” by Fall Out Boy. Weird, right? I was browsing songs to download on iTunes and previewed that one, and it’s been stuck in my head for a couple days now. (I didn’t buy it though – maybe I should?)

My favourite meal of the week was nothing, really. I made some beef kabobs on Thursday, but I feel like I fell into a bit of a rut this week. I attempted to make Greek potatoes, but they were a huge fail being underdone and kind of flavourless.

My plans for the weekend are an oil change for Vera this morning, mani & pedi tomorrow morning, and then Vancouver Sunday morning for Maroon 5 that night!! I’m looking forward to a little mini-getaway with my mom and some shopping on Robson Street + Ikea! It will be Kyle’s first time alone with Isla over night, so hopefully it goes good for him! (I’m sure it will – Isla adores her Daddy!)

What are your plans for the weekend?

TGIF v.13

The high of my week was just being off work! The weather has been ah-mazing, Isla has been in a good mood, and I’ve just been happy in general. Kyle has even noticed a difference. Like I said in Monday’s post, as much as I appreciated the opportunity to work, I appreciate being at home and raising my daughter a little bit more.

The low of my week was the awful sleep I had Wednesday night/Thursday morning. Isla work up just before 2 a.m. with a soggy Pull-Up, and then she didn’t want to go back to sleep. I think I put her to back to bed three times before she finally stayed in her room and fell asleep. Then of course, I was wiiiiide awake, my body ached, and I couldn’t fall back to sleep. I finally did and woke up when Kyle left for work around 5:45 am, then fell back to sleep and woke up again around 6:30 am because of a weird dream I was having. (I SWEAR I heard Kyle shout, “Get off the stairs,” and it scared the crap outta me, but I was just dreaming.) I gave up trying to sleep after that.

A blog post I loved was … there aren’t any that actually stand out in my head right now.

The best money I spent was no money! Honestly, the only thing I spent money on this week was some McDonald’s for lunch on Wednesday. (I had a McChicken, Isla had a McNugget Happy Meal.) It was a moment of pregnancy weakness and I have no regrets, except that the little toy Isla got is annoying. But other than that, I haven’t spent any money. I even returned something on Monday. I un-spent money!

My favourite Isla moment was every single moment! I feel like she’s grown up SO much in this past week, it’s unbelievable. She can ride her tricycle with no issues (as long as we’re on a flat surface), she’s doing well with potty training again (any accidents have totally been my fault), and she’s just acting like such a little grown up. Yesterday during breakfast she asked how my sleep was, lol. (Something I ask her every morning.)

The song that has been stuck in my head is Lost Stars by Adam Levine. It’s such a pretty song!

My favourite meal of the week was probably the planked salmon I made for dinner on Thursday. I found this recipe for the “sauce” and just poured it over my slab o’ salmon once I put it on the plank. It turned out SO good, even though I maaaay have let the barbecue get too hot and the sauce that escaped off the salmon caught fire. Luckily, Kyle came home just as I noticed all the smoke and he came to the rescue. (A bonus for having a welder for a husband? Heat & fire doesn’t bother them at all!)

I also tried my hand at making homemade sushi on Tuesday. I stuck with California roll, and while it tasted not too shabby and looked aesthetically pleasing, the work I had to put into making it wasn’t quite worth it. I will say, for about the same price as it would’ve cost for one Bento Box at my favourite sushi restaurant, I made about 4x as much California roll. I used this recipe (Alton Brown’s “Good Eats”) as my guide and doubled the recipe. I think I’ll just stick to buying it.

My plans for the weekend are spending time with Kyle and Isla. We haven’t had any good quality time together in a few weeks, so we’re all looking forward to just hanging out as a family together. We have grand plans for 7-Eleven Slurpees, 5¢ candies, and a movie, as well as crossing a few things off of our around the house “to-do” list.

What are YOUR weekend plans? Have you ever made homemade sushi? Would you do it again or stick to buying it already made?
And how weird is it that this is the second Friday the 13th in a row??
