Seven Quick Takes

1. Wednesday night after Kyle and I went and seen a movie I needed to get gas for my car.  We pulled up to the pump, I turned my engine off (as you’re suppose to), and Kyle pumped my gas. When I went to start my engine to leave, my car wouldn’t start. WHAAA? It was dead. D-E-A-D. Dead. In -20 C weather! So, after calling the MIL and driving up and down the hill to our house (once to go get the jumper cables and again because we forgot the garage clicker to get into our house), Kyle got my car started and home. And now? She  starts just fine again. FML. I hate my car.

2. Kyle and I are in Phase 3 of our doggy adoption process! I haven’t blogged about it because I don’t want to jinx our chances, but we’re planning a day-trip to Vancouver to meet the dog we want to adopt. Daphne gets to come with us, so it will be an interesting road trip!

3. It seems that just because I say “day trip to Vancouver” people think it means, “day trip to visit people!” Umm, no. You don’t plan two 4-hour trips in one day to visit people – you do it because you have a damn important thing to do! I hate to say no to visiting, but I just don’t have the time. Plus, with Kyle and Daphne with me it’s not fair to drag them all over the place. One day I’ll get my travel on and visit people! Maybe in the spring when the roads are ridiculous.

4. A co-worker has a loon ringtone and it’s really throwing me off at work. Nothing like the wilderness inside to make you confused.

5. I have a feeling that Monday’s Pregnancy Update post is going to make some people mad, not that I really care all that much. Really, I’m just trying to set the rules for myself. I swear I’m not a stone-cold hater of all things. We’ll see how it goes I guess!

6. I’m really thankful that my favourite shows are back on TV. Nothing like Mind Rot to make an evening just lovely!

7. I still have no idea what colours to paint my baby room. I’ll probably change my mind a thousand times before I get ready to actually paint. Several more trips to the paint store are probably going to happen, as well as several more hours staring at the “wall of paint swatches.” Who would’ve thought picking colours would be so hard?! My brain hurts just thinking about it.

Happy Friday everyone! What are your weekend plans?

Seven Quick Takes

1. I told (well, emailed) my boss finally and told him that I’m pregnant and he congratulated me. Who would’ve thought it would so scary telling your boss that you’re pregnant and eventually going to be leaving for a good chunk of time? Regardless, I’m glad I got it over with and he knows know. His exact response was, “Congratulations! I’m assuming it’s a good thing at least.” Priceless and pretty much sums up the humour my boss has. (Which is a good thing!)

2. I bought Sarah’s Key yesterday and am looking forward to reading it! I’ve heard a lot of great reviews and I haven’t actually read a new book since late October, so it will be nice to snuggle down with a book on the weekends.

3. Kyle and I bought Kinect for the XBox 360 and can’t get enough of playing it! We just have a couple games right now, but it’s a lot of fun and ou really get a workout! My legs were sore for a couple days after playing Kinect Adventures against my brother. And – if you’ve never heard of Kinect, it’s basically like a Wii but instead of moving the controller, it senses the motion of your body, so you control everything!

4. How is it already the end of the year? I don’t even know how it went by so fast – but I guess I did keep myself pretty busy this year! I’ll probably do a Year in Review post sometime next week.

5. Kyle and I have made a decision (I think) on whether or not to find out what we’re having! But – you’ll have to wait until Monday’s pregnancy update post for what we’ve decided.

6. This 3-day workweek of mine dragged on. I’m pretty sure there’s still turkey tryptophan in my system because I’m sooooo sleepy, and that’s certainly not helping. That’s what happens when you have three turkey dinners I guess.

7. I bought this dayplanner/agenda for 2012 yesterday as well and can’t wait to start filling it up with plans! I just know next year is going to be just as eventful as 2011!

Have you read Sarah’s Key? Did you like it?
Have you even played Kinect for XBox? What about Wii?
Did you work this week? Did it drag on or go by fast?

Seven Quick Takes

1. We had company come over last weekend to stay the night and unbeknownst to me, one of them had a nasty cold. Come Wednesday morning, Kyle and I both had sore throats, the sniffles, and felt like garbage. Curses! At least we’re sick at the same time, which means we’re less likely to pass the germs back and forth, right? That’s the way I’m going to look at it anyway.

2. I have an awesome (in my opinion) blog post scheduled for Monday but I’m thinking I’m going to bump it up to Sunday morning. *insert suspenseful music here* I’m excited!

3. My co-worker’s 2 year old scared the crap out of me Wednesday. I was walking out of the bathroom at work and into the hallway back to my desk and I just hear this tiny little squeak of a voice and probably jumped a mile. I even almost told him he scared the crap out of me, but I don’t think his mom would’ve appreciated it if he learned how to say the word “crap” and repeated it. Actually, I have no idea how old kids are when they start repeating everything they hear, but it doesn’t hurt not to cuss. I don’t even like cussing in front of babies.

4. While I love the look and smell of my real Christmas tree, I hate how the needles get EVERYWHERE. Seriously – it’s a pain in the ass! I don’t think I could ever buy a fake Christmas tree though. Never! Next Christmas I want to go out to the “woods” and find my own tree the old-fashioned way! Hot chocolate? S’mores? Toboggan rides? Hell yes!

5. There’s a charity Christmas bake sale at work next week but I haven’t decided if I want to bake or not. My Christmas baking skills are limited, but my mom makes an awesome snickerdoodle, so maybe I’ll borrow her recipe from her. I baked raisin cookies on Wednesday for Kyle and burnt the first batch because my oven is ridiculously hot.

6. Kyle has to work New Year’s Eve/Day and I have no idea what to do with myself. Invite friends over? Go out? Be a hermit and hide in my house? Go to bed by 10 p.m.? The sky’s the limit for me!

7. The way our new house is set up computer-wise has me spending less time on the computer, which is a good thing! My laptop now sits in the kitchen, which is super convenient for when I’m cooking/baking with recipes online. I used to just sit in front of the TV and “watch” it while being on the computer at the same time. Now, I do less of it! It’s refreshing to be offline more. And – I no longer keep my cellphone by my bed. It stays in the kitchen as well by the landline phone. I have no need for it by my bed since I have a regular alarm clock and I’m way too addicted to social media. Baby steps!

Questions:
Have you caught a “winter” cold yet? What remedies do you go-to?
Any suggestions on what kind of cookies I should bake?
Do you have New Year’s Eve plans yet?
Do you keep your cellphone by your bed?

That’s it! Happy Friday!!
