Life Notes

There are things in life that I’ve come to realize, such as:

– It’s impossible to go to Costco and not buy ALL OF THE THINGS. Seriously, I dare you to buy only the items on your list. FOOLS! IT CANNOT BE DONE!

– The smell of baby barf grows on you.

– Smelling diapers to see if they need to be changed is a socially acceptable task.

– Some cars are awesomely sturdy, even as they age. Some cars are not. Guess which category mine falls in. I’ll give you a hint: NOT NOT NOT.

– While babies can sleep through mostly everything, if your dog gets up and “shakes” his collar and your baby is in between being awake and asleep (groggy?), said baby will jump a mile and start crying in fear.

– Never shop at Walmart during the day, or while they’re renovating. Or at night. Matter of fact, never shop at Walmart unless you’re mentally stable enough to handle the chaos.

– Parents will always drive you crazy in some shape or form.

– Cats that normally hate you will become your best friend if you’re the one providing them with delicious noms. Don’t be surprised if the cat goes right back to hating you when its owners are home.

– When you’re in the middle of working on stuff that’s really important and email dependent, your internet will crash harder than the stock market on Black Friday.

What are some things you’ve come to realize?

Listy Friday

– Starting on Monday, Kyle is on holidays for 12 days. Yay! We had plans to go to a wedding on the 17th down in Victoria, but we’ve opted not to go because of Isla. I think we/I was thinking a little too ambitiously when I thought a 6-hour trip including a ferry ride would be easy with a 6-week old baby. I’m sad that we’re no longer going, but I’m looking forward to spending some time with my little family :)

– Kyle and I have an appointment at the bank next week to set up an RESP for Isla. I’m already sad for the day she leaves for college.

– Campbell has taken it upon himself to “groom” Daphne. He’ll cozy up beside her and start licking her face/paws/ears/whatever. It’s hilarious, especially when Daphne’s had enough and yells him where to go and how to get there.

– Come the fall, I may be hopping aboard the iPhone bandwagon when the iPhone 5 is launched. There have been several moments when I’ve wanted to throw my phone into traffic/in the washing machine/off a bridge, and Kyle suggested we buck up and get me one. I’m not going to lie, I’m a little excited.

– My hair is in serious need of a trim, and I still have to wait another 2 weeks to get it done. This is the worst thing about having bangs. I’m not brave enough to trim them myself, but they’re driving me crazy!! At least they’re now long enough to pin back on top of my head; I was starting to look like some emo-vampire chick.

– I’ll leave you  this photo I Instagrammed Wednesday morning. Isla decided she wanted to see the sun rise …

Happy Friday!

Listy Friday

– I quite enjoy opening up WordPress and seeing what bizarre search terms that have brought people to my blog.  Some resent search terms include: “peeing during labor,” “full grown malamute dogs,” “roast chicken slow cooker low food poisoning,”and “postpartum didn’t know i was urinating.” Good to know that I’m the go-to blog for urination.

– Have I posted a side-by-side of how much my feet have changed in size since giving birth? The photo on the left was taken when I was about 38 weeks pregnant. The photo on the right was taken about 2 weeks post-partum. It’s amazing to me to see the difference! You’d never think those feet belong to the same person.

– On Saturday, Kyle discovered that a pack rat has been living in our shed. It was a ballsy little bugger, staring right at us and not really bothering to run away. We put Campbell’s terrier capabilities to the test and tried to get him to hunt it, but he was just curious more than anything. So, unfortunately, we had to go buy a trap to kill the little bugger. Yeah – We kill rodents. They carry disease, they make a mess of things … so yeah. Sorry animal lovers. Here’s a photo I managed to take of him before we set the trap (obviously). He’s cute, but YUCK. We did end up catching him yesterday.

– I’m so not a fan of the Summer Olympics, but since there’s nothing else on TV because of them, I’m stuck watching them. (Woes of Maternity Leave!) I don’t know if I can pick a favourite event though. Maybe gymnastics or diving? The way they manage to flip their bodies around without breaking their necks amazes me.

– Tomorrow Isla is going on her first road trip! Well, we’re only going an hour out of town to visit my grandpa, but still – it will be her first out of town venture! I’m excited for it, and so glad that my mom is coming as well. I have a feeling I’m going to pack way to much stuff to bring just for a few hours, but better too much than not enough, right? Right!

– Campbell has been eating citronella candles and his farts smell HORRID. Seriously. I don’t know what is wrong with this dog, but he’ll eat anything, I swear. He’s such a turd, but when he gives me the pouty eyes I just melt every time.

– I’m now a part of KamBlogs, which features local bloggers. I’m pretty stoked to be a part of it. It doesn’t hurt that my work organizes it either ;)

– I am getting really good at typing with one hand, thanks to Isla and her constant desire to be snuggled to sleep and my refusal to just let her cry. I’m a sucker, what can I say?

– I was asked to be a part of a new parenting series that will be appearing on one of our local TV stations! It’s all about trends in parenting and I’m being featured in a segment about being a mom and blogger. We shot everything yesterday and it will be airing sometime in the fall. Isla’s going to be a TV star and she won’t even know it, lol. Even Daphne had a close-up :) I’m so glad that it wasn’t live, because my last experience with being on TV was and it was horribly awkward.

Happy Friday!
