Pukey brown-green thumb

My thumb is not green. Well, maybe a little, like a muddy, pukey brown-green, but not a healthy green.

Not too long after I started my job at the paper, the office was presented with a pretty plant for being a great supporter of a local acting group. Apparently I was responsible for watering the plant, even though we received it on my day off before the weekend. The hot. Dry. Weekend. So, of course, we get to the office and the plant is dead. FML.

So, my awesome Grandma bought me those funky watering globes that you see on TV. Yeah, I managed to let the other office plant almost die.

Now I have the reputation of a plant killer, even though I really don’t think I am one. I have two bamboo plants that I haven’t killed, although one is HUGE and needs to have its roots trimmed or something (Can you do that? They’ve taken over the vase!) and an awesome ficus, which has actually gotten bigger and thicker since I adopted it. I don’t, however, water the plants that the mother-in-law has left at our house (well, her house that we’re renting). IMHO, they’re not mine so why bother watering them? It wasn’t in the rent agreement. (Not that we have one.)

Anyway, now I have a lovely little spider plant on my desk at work and it’s so cute and adorable, I really don’t want to kill it! Feast your eyes on its cuteness:

The girls at the office had a good chuckle at me “gardening” my plant into it’s little pot, but I want it to live, dammit! Maybe it’s just the office plants I tend to kill. I’m so busy doing everything else (most of the time) that I don’t remember to water them. To fix this, I’ve put a reminder notification in my calendar for every Friday at 2pm. This way, I can’t forget to water it, right? Right.

You know the saying, “If you can keep a plant alive, you can raise a kid”? Yeah, I like to go by the other one, “If you can raise a puppy, you can raise a kid.” Daphne turned out okay, didn’t she?

Then!

Now!

I like to think I did okay, green thumb-less and all!

Maybe it’s a fur-thumb?

Friday Food – Indian Adventure!

A couple weeks ago I had mentioned that I have never had Indian food before. Melissa was shocked apparently, and took the opportunity to take me out for dinner as thanks for not killing her cats while she was away.

We went to Flavours of India (after I polled my coworkers and Kamloops bloggers!) and the experience began!

Since Mel doesn’t eat meat and I can’t live without it, I asked around as to what dish I should try. Meghan suggested I have Tikka Masala while Angela suggested the Butter Chicken. What did I go with in the end? Chicken Tikka Masala!

Mel also ordered me mango lassi, which was tasty as hell, and garlic Naan bread.

Tastiest mango drink ever! Which actually looks similar to my roasted garlic soup

Soon our meals came and maaaan, was it a delicious spread! Mel ordered Chickpea Malasa (I think) and my Chicken Tikka Masala looked soooo good!

Rice, malasa and more rice, Oh My!

Let me just say that I’ve never been so excited to try new foods! The smell was amazing. Final verdict? I looooove Indian food and can’t wait to try more! I just wish Kyle liked it so we could go together. (He’s not a fan of spicy food at all!)

So thanks Melissa for a lovely date! And I promise next time I’ll put out, ahahaha! ;)

Happy weekend everyone!!

Friday Food: Soup WIN!

A couple weeks ago, I posted about my horrific failure at soup making. After gathering my food-esteem up off the ground, I figured I’d give it another shot!

This time, it worked out beautifully! I didn’t use the whine wine vinegar (or any wine, even) and instead of using our little Magic Bullet to blend up the soup, I used our BRAND NEW BLENDER!!!

Will it blend, that is the question!

Kyle and I have been saving up Save On More points since we fist moved to Kamloops almost six years ago and we finally decided to use them on a household item! How grown-up of us, right? I thought so!

So since the blender came it just in time for my day off, I figured I’d put it to use and retry the soup. It turned out good! It was missing something but I couldn’t figure out what. Anyway, it was great and I even garnished it with a little Parmesan cheese. Yum! (Cheese makes everything amazing, BTW).

Roasted Garlic Soup!

Oh, and did I mention the blender lights up when it’s on?  Oh yeah!

Who wouldn't want a blender that turns blue?

I now leave you with my favourite “Will it Blend” video. Happy weekend!
