Ten on Tuesday

Here’s another edition of Ten on Tuesday, brought to you by Roots and Rings!

1.  If you could travel back in time, would you?  What decade would you visit?

I sure would! I’d visit the 17th Century, or something fabulous like that. The gowns, feasts and parties would be amazing to experience, minus the beheading and such. And all the scandals! King cheats on Queen with girl, she has his baby and then he falls in love with her sister, she has her baby … drama!

2. What was your best Halloween costume?  (fun to make? most creative?)

A couple years ago I borrowed all of Kyle’s welding stuff (jacket, overalls, helmet, etc.) and was a welder for Halloween at work. That was pretty awesome. I haven’t dressed up for Halloween since!  When I was little my mom and aunt made me a Little Mermaid costume, and that was pretty awesome.

3. Do you like your name?  If you weren’t called by your name, what would you want to be called?

I do like my name! I really can’t think of another name to be called by, but since some of my coworkers think I’m actually a crappy old spinster, we’ll go with Gertrude.

4. In the past year, what is the BEST recipe you made.  Please share it!

It was definitely my Banana Bread, and the recipe is posted here!

5. Look around – what is the nearest object or picture hanging on the wall?

It’s a picture my aunt gave me when I graduated from high school. I’ve been meaning to replace it with Kyle’s welding certificate, but I haven’t felt like climbing chairs in a while.

6. What was the last movie you saw in a theatre?  Would you recommend it?

I watched Valentine’s Day with my mom. It was cute! I’d watch it again :)

7. Did you go to summer camp?  Will you/do you send your kids to camp?

Summer camps were non-existent in my small hometown, but there was a science camp one summer that I went to. I think I was was the summer between Grades 2 and 3 maybe? It was a lot of fun ANNNND Kyle and I were in the same group! I think we were destined to be together.

8. What kind of ringtone do you have?

For calls I have “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga and for texts I just have a knocking sound.

9. Where is the farthest away from home you have ever been?

Palm Springs, California! My Nana used to live there and my grandparents always snowbird there, so I got to fly down and visit them during spring break in Grade 9. It was so much fun, even though it was with my grandparents.

10. Has anyone ever written a song or a poem for or about you?

I’m pretty sure John Mayer wrote “Wonderland” thinking of me. Haha!

It’s a few days late, but a weekend update is better late than never, right? RIGHT!

So on the weekend Kyle and I went down to Vancouver to watch our favourite hockey team, the Vancouver Canucks! I had got him tickets back in September as a “Congrats” for finishing his Welder B training. I was going to wait until Christmas, but I suck at keeping surprises from him and gave them to him early, using him being done school in record time as an excuse. (He finished a month ahead of everyone!)

We haven’t really had many opportunities to travel together, mostly because we’re both always busy with work and trying to save money, so I figured hockey tickets would be the perfect excuse to get away. Plus it was a weekend game, so who could argue that? We booked our hotel back in January and on Saturday, we were on our merry way!

The drive down was great and thanks to the GPS my dad let us borrow, I never got lost! I’ve only driven to Vancouver once by myself, and it was a horrible experience, so I figured if I preplanned my route via Google Maps and Google Street View (Which is AMAZINGLY helpful, IMHO) and had the help of a GPS, all would go well. And it did! We got to the hotel around 12:30 p.m. – plenty of time to do some shopping on Robson Street and such.

Anyway, I dragged Kyle a hella-long way up Robson Street so I could go to lululemon and buy fabulous comfy cloths. We got to see a bit of “left over” Olympic attractions, including the Zip-Lining and the huge screen in front of the Art Gallery. The sights may have been scaled down, but they were still cool. The streets were packed and Kyle hates big crowds and I never would’ve dragged him with me if I had known it was going to be busy. He was such a trooper, even in lululemon, and he even bought me my Gather & Crow crop pants. I’m such a lucky girl!

After we got back to the hotel we headed down to the hotel restaurant for a late lunch/dinner. We noticed that right across the road was LiveCity Vancouver, which, for those of you too lazy to click through, is where people can watch live Paralympic events and hang out:


Even more awesome was the Belini I ordered at the restaurant. Apparently “Moxie-Sized” cocktails were on special, so when I was asked if I’d like to “Moxie-Size” my Belini, I said yes. This is what I got as a result:

It was HUGE and I got the worst brain freezes, but it was so good! Kyle thought it was pretty funny since I make the most screwed up face ever when I get brain freezes. Oh well! Serves me right I suppose. After our meal we had a nap for about an hour before we got ready to go to the game. I put on my Canucks jersey, which we’ve determined is bad luck, and were on our way to the game!

We stopped by Authenix, the Canucks store attached to GM Place and browsed around. I bought a shirt while Kyle couldn’t find anything he liked. After we found our seats and took in the pre-game warm up before the game started. The whole thing was absolutely amazing, and we had the best time ever! The Canucks lost with only 0.2 seconds in Overtime, which was sad, but oh well. We at least got a point!

Members of Canada's Olympic Womens Hockey Team were there for a puck-dropping ceremony. It was really cool and they got a huge standing ovation!

Mark Donnelly sings the anthems at EVERY Canucks home game! He's an amazing opera singer and during the second verse of O' Canada he lets the audience sing it, holding up the mic. The energy in the building is AMAZING during this!

So that pretty much sums everything up, minus the freak rain storm on our way back (typical Vancouver weather) and delicious breakfast in Hope.

Call me crazy

But I’m really starting to want to have a baby. I think.

Right now they’re everywhere in my life! My best friend just had a little baby girl yesterday afternoon (A St. Paddie’s Day baby! She’ll be a lucky girl!) and I’m so excited and happy for her. Five of my co-workers at the grocery store are having babies. FIVE. (I don’t drink the water in the staff room!) An old friend’s sister just had her second on Sunday and another friend’s sister had her first in January. And not to mention all the bloggers I follow out there!

Honestly, as much as I want to start a family right now, I know I’m not ready. Kyle and I are desperately saving for a house right now and we both want steady, sturdy jobs before any of that happens. Career, house, marriage, baby. That’s the order of operations for us. Okay, baby and marriage may be switched since we’re already living in sin, but who knows. (I say shotgun, you say ___?)

So smack me the next time I say I want a baby. Well, at least when I say I want one right now. We’re just not ready. We’d have to put A LOT of things on hold, and a house is our priority right now. Yes. For now I’ll live vicariously through my friend in Fort St. John and have fun with my little niece!
