WTW: The Dresses!

Ahh, probably the most important part of the attire, besides my wedding dress, was finding the bridesmaid’s dresses. Lucky for my ladies, it was relatively easy!

Monday I took the day off work (Yay banked stat days!) and I dragged C out to the one (and only! Yeesh) bridal salon in town. B was heading into town from up north (her dress is at a store in Kelowna), and Melissa was on stand-by via text/photo message, so it all worked out wonderfully! I’m so glad C was patient with me! I think I made her try on about a dozen dresses and we came out with two favourites, both agreed upon by C and Mel:

Ignore C’s awesome pink bra straps, lol!

The pros to these two dresses: Both the colours of the dress and the sash could be changed to whatever I wanted (which would be black with blue). The Cons? They were expensive. I didn’t want my girls to have to pay more than $200 for their dresses, and that just wasn’t happening at the bridal salon.

We decided to head up to the mall since that’s where we were meeting B and browsed in Sears to see if there was anything that would work. (Not so much) We then headed over to Le Chateau to see what they had, and bingo! C and I stared at the perfect bridesmaid dress!

C tried it on and it fit her perfectly. I sent photos to Mel and she liked it too, and then B showed up and also loved it! Woo! The great thing? They had everyone’s size right there in the store, so we were able to scoop them all up! Yay! ANNND they were a lot cheaper than the dresses in the bridal salon. Ha!

We’re going to see if we can switch out the little black flower for a blue one, if we’re feeling crafty enough. Hopefully we can find some pre-made fabric flowers to easily sew on. (If anyone knows of a place online where I can find some, let me know!)

I’m pretty glad we were able to find the dresses so easily! I was worried that they were going to be impossible to find and that they would take forever to ship. (My wedding dress won’t be here until the end of March! AGG!)

And, the best part? I got to visit my little niece while the girls tried on their dresses:

She’s getting so big!

Ah, and, I may as well tell you that B found bridesmaids dresses for her wedding party this past weekend too. The whole bridal party (minus me because I suck and live “down south” and the roads were horrid) went to Prince George to hunt for dresses. There’s five bridesmaids altogether, so apparently the hunt was difficult. (Especially with everyone being completely different body types, from XS to XXL!)

Anyway, this is the dress that was picked, same colour and anything:

I will say that it’s not something I personally would’ve picked out, but these aren’t for my wedding. I may die of heat stroke in this dress, but oh well. All in the name of duty!

Happy Hump Day!

What to Wear (Or Not)

About a month ago, Amber wrote this post about workplace attire and it made me think more about what is and isn’t acceptable to wear to work.

I’ve been at my new job for almost 3 months now, and I’m still trying to wrap my brain around the dress code! For example, they other day one of the gals in advertising was wearing a halter-style sundress and another gal was wearing a short skirt. Also? Shirts without sleeves seem to be acceptable. Before I started I asked my boss what the dress code was and he said, “Business casual. So basically no jeans” (With the exception of “Jeans Day Friday”) But isn’t a short skirt and halter dress a little TOO casual? I can’t figure it out!

I would never wear a skirt that goes more than a couple inched above my knees and I’ve never worked at a place that allows sleeveless shirts or halter-dresses or spaghetti-straps. Maybe I’m an old fuddy-duddy, but they don’t seem appropriate.

Generally, I stick to knee-length shorts/capris and shirts with sleeves, no matter how hot it is outside. (The building is FREEZING with the AC on anyway) I wouldn’t wear sleeveless shirts because having the tattoos on my calf showing is already enough. As far as skirts and dresses go – I have no idea. I’m not brave enough to wear a skirt or dress to work. Reason 1: I don’t have any that are appropriate in my eyes and 2) I’m deathly afraid of having my dress being accidentally tucked into my underwear and flashing the entire office. (AKA “How NOT to Climb the Corporate Ladder”)

So yeah, I’m still at a loss for what to wear to work. It’s more formal than my last job, but not pant-suit formal or “You better cover up your tattoos or the clients will ditch us” formal (Thank Jeebus). Ugh. I have no idea. Someone help me wrap my brain around this one!

Thanks Milly!

First, I just want to point out that it is taking all of the effort in the world for me to type up this blog post! I’m utterly exhausted and just want to go to sleep.

Now, with that being said, I had an awesome weekend! As I had mentioned in Friday’s post, I went to Kelowna Saturday to visit my amazing wonderful friend B and her baby girl! (FYI: Kelowna is a 2-hour drive from Kamloops).

The drive itself was long, probably because I was by myself, but the scenery was pretty! Lots of lovely mountains and such. I just bought a Garmin GPS and I thought it would be a great time to test her out! I decided to name her Matilda, or Milly for short, since she sounds like an uppity British woman with poor pronunciation.

Hello there Milly!

Poor pronunciation aside, Milly got me to B’s Mom’s place right on schedule, even with my pit-stop in Merritt to go pee. We packed up baby Lilly into my car (since it’s a 4-door and has AC) and headed to downtown Kelowna for a little wedding/bridesmaid dress shopping. I won’t post pictures of the wedding dresses, but I’ll give you a sample of the dresses we (B’s sister and I) tried on:

So that’s one of the dresses. Make a mental note that our dresses are going to be red with white. And ignore the ridiculous lighting and spazzy expression on my face. Or, if you don’t think that’s spazzy enough, here’s me trying to put on a slightly too small dress:

God, I’m special.

I’m not too sure what the actual style of our dresses will be. I think it will depend on what B’s wedding dress looks like. (She actually may have already found it!)

I only got one lame picture of my beautiful little niece. :( B and her sister are heading back up home to Fort Saint John on Thursday, so they’re going to stop in Kamloops for lunch and I’ll take a better pic then. This is all I got:

I also went to my favourite store ever and bought myself a lovely new sweater :) It’s the Wear With All Jacket but in the Lagoon colour. So, picture this sweater:

But in this colour:

It’s soooo freaking comfy, I want to live in it.

Anyway, so that’s more or less my weekend. Yesterday I worked early in the AM. Joys!

How was everyone’s weekend?
