WTF Friday 1.0

I opted out of Friday Food for this week to bring you WTF Friday. I’ve noticed something this week at the gym that has just made me go “WTF??” and really, I have no excited foody adventures. Unless you count my orange attacking me today, I got nothing.

SO …

I don’t particularly like to give shout-outs to specific places of business, but I was at the gym that has a catchy little song and dance about it, and I noticed that there are generally two types of people who go to the gym. There’s the people who want to work out and actually get in shape and the people who go just because it’s the “cool” thing to do.

The “cool” people, I’ve noticed, are constantly texting, are always there with one or two friends and are always fixing their hair. They never break a sweat and walk slower than my Grandma (who actually doesn’t walk slow at all).

This Tuesday, for example, I’m clinging onto dear life as I sweat it out on the elliptical machine and this young girl (she must’ve been about 15) hops on the machine beside me. She maybe used it for 10 minutes before getting off and leaving. I watched her leave and her ass crack was nearly showing. WTF? This a a gym, with sweaty old men with hairy backs, not a high school basketball game filled wall to wall with acne-ridden boys and bad Bieber-like hair. *barf*

I’m a person who goes to the gym to get good and sweaty and feel great anyway. I’m all for the people who genuinely want to get in shape, not search for their next Friday night date. I could care less about how red my face is or how much sweat is all over me. I’m not a “pretty” gym-goer, to say the least, but I love it.

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t feel that I need to look drop-dead gorgeous while I’m working out. I wear what’s comfy, I wear what works, and I don’t mind getting my sweat on.

So, if/when you go to the gym or are working out, are you more concerned about how you look or how you feel? Be honest now …

Week(end) update

So I messed up the dates when scheduling my blog posts, so I’m sure that some of you have already read MOST of this one. But there’s more! Read on, dear bloggers, read on ...

Yeah, so I lacked slightly on my weekend update on Sunday. I didn’t work the entire weekend obviously, but it felt like it!

Anyway, Friday I discovered that one of my best friends (we’ll call her “Reba”) was coming down south for a few days because her fiancée wanted to look for a “new-to-him” truck. Plus and her mom lives about two hours away from Kamloops so Reba wanted to see her before her baby came! (BTW – It seems like there’s a lot of baby talk going around the blogosphere!) She’s due in about four weeks too, so it was amazing to see her belly. The baby was sleeping or something, so I didn’t get to feel it kick, but it put a smile on my face just knowing that there’s a little person inside her. (Or the Alien, as we like to refer to it as!) She’s the person I plan on going to Fort Saint John to visit in the spring. :)

All my other friends are the same height as me, so I look so short next to her!

My only thoughts on Valentine’s Day was that it was uneventful, and I’m okay with it! Kyle gave me my present early – a trip to the spa! I went yesterday and it was absolutely amazing! When I got there I had a little cup of ginseng honey tea and was whisked away to the “Fire” room, which basically had warm, reddish tones. I got a lavender steam, a body scrub and an amazing massage. Lovely!  Afterwards I got to have some yummy fruit tea, cookies and rice crackers. It was the perfect gift and one of the most thoughtful Kyle has got me! I’d love to go back!

My delicious fruit tea, with a green tea cookie and rice cracker snacks!

Monday I had a Chinese New Year’s feast with my dad, brother and Kyle. It was delicious! Usually I’m hungry about a half-hour after I eat Asian food (because of all the starch) but I was full for almost the entire night! My fortune cookie fortune was pretty awesome too:

I like to think I am, so this fortune was pretty awesome. And no, I didn’t add “in bed” to the end. ;)

Happy Thursday!

Waiting on marriage

First comes love, then comes marriage, then come [name] pushing the baby carriage!

If only that were true these days!

As I am mentioned a couple times, Kyle and I have been dating for a loooong time. Like, seven years, long. We’ve been together since we were 16. It’s an oddity these days to find couples who have been dating that long. I know of three other couples who started dating when they were 16/17 and two of them are married. (I even went to both weddings last year)

Back in the day, my mom was already married and pregnant (with yours truly) by the time she was my age. Kyle and I have been taking things slow. We’ve only been living together for just over a year and we’re slowly starting to save for a house.

Basically, what it comes down it is, people these days are taking their time to get educated and establish themselves in the world before settling down. Kyle and I would rather have good jobs and a house before getting married. Yeah, we’ll eventually get married. Truuust me.

I’m just tired of people asking me “When are you guys going to get married??” Really, I have no idea. One day, when we’re where we want to be in life, it’ll happen. We’re perfectly happy shacked up in sin (so to speak) and the past year of living together has been amazing. One of my friends said to me once that I should give up after 10 years if hadn’t proposed. Yeah, I’d love that ring on my finger, but I think that if you love someone enough it shouldn’t matter how long he takes to pop the question.

Anyway, that’s just my thoughts.  We’ll get married, one day. I don’t know when, but I know it will happen. Good things happen to those who wait, right?
