Dinner Table Conversations

As most of you may have gathered, I live with two boys, Kyle and Roommate. Kyle and the Roommate are actually really the bestest of friends. They met while going to Welding school together back in 2007 and have been together ever since. (I like to joke that they have a Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, “I Love You Man” relationship)

Anyway, for whatever reason we tend to have rather inappropriate dinner table conversations. Ones we’d never have if our grandparents were at the table, looking at us with scowls on their faces. It is with this in mind that I present to you a new series: Dinner Table Conversations.

While talking about what rape is, or something like that: (I tend to ignore them and only listen to bits and pieces of the conversation)

Kyle: (jokingly) Oh, you know it’s unconventional sex.
Roommate: You mean un-consensual.
Kyle: No no, I mean unconventional. It’s unconventional if it’s in the ear.
Me: …..

*****

Kyle: You know, if we had to eat one of us to survive the zombie apocalypse or something, Kara would be the best choice.
Me: *blank stare* What? Why???
Kyle: Well, I’m too fat and [Roommate]’s too thin. You have a good balance of muscle and fat.
Roommate: He’s right. I’d be too stringy.
Me: Gee, thanks guys …

*****

Background info: Our dogs sometimes act like lesbian lovers.

Kyle: You know, when of them passes away before the other, the one still living is going to be so lost.
Me: Yeah, it’s true. It’s going to be so depressing!
Roommate: Yeah, I mean, who would she 69 with?

Thanks for tuning in kids!

Ten on Tuesday

Alright kids, you know the drill! It’s Ten on Tuesday time brought to you by Chelsea at Roots and Rings!

1. If your name was a verb, what would “to Kara” mean?

“To jump nimbly pimbly-like from tree to tree.”

2. What myth have you always wanted to prove or bust?

That Pop Rocks and Coke will make your stomach explode. Any volunteers to help me test this??

3. If you had the ability to get a message out to the entire world, what would you say?

That despite popular believe, the customer is always WRONG. Wrong, wrong, wrong.

4. I know you’ve answered a similar question before, but it’s been awhile. Please name your current top 10 blogs.

Aww, do I have to? In no order:

5. Do you have a junk drawer?

I have several “junk” drawers. Four, to be exact. I know, shame on me for having so much junk, but 2/3 of it isn’t even mine, I swear. It’s the MIL’s since we live in her house and all. I’m not allowed to throw stuff away.

6. Bottled water or tap?

Usually tap, but we do put it into a Brita filter jug. Kamloops’ water is  by-far the best from-the-tap water I’ve ever had though.

7. As a kid, did you have a favourite Biblical story?

No. I’m not religious but I did go to Youth Group just for fun. All I remember is the story about Jonah and the Whale. :P

8. What is your favourite black and white movie?

Was Singing in the Rain black and white? I don’t think it was …. How about Citizen Kane? Oh, I know! Clerks! lol

9. Aside from your engagement/wedding rings, what is your favourite piece of jewelry that you own? Does it have a story behind it?

I don’t have any engagement or wedding rings. :( But – as tiny as it is, I do love the promise ring Kyle gave me. He also gave me a beautiful new necklace a couple Christmases ago, which I really love. (Or maybe it was our anniversary? I can’t remember … Oops.)

10. What sports/activities do you hope your kids will be involved in? (Answer for both a boy and a girl)

Boy or girl, I hope they try everything at least once. I’m dying to be a Volvo-driving soccer mom though. Haha!

Brr, It’s Cold in Here!

Go ahead and do the little cheer from Bring it On. You know the one I’m talking about. Get it out of the way …

Ready? Okay! Now onto my point:

Last summer was probably one of the most miserable summers I have ever experienced. Not because life’s events sucked, because things were amazing; It was because my bedroom was so. bloody. hot. Like, sauna hot, but without the lovely spa feeling.

The house Kyle and I are renting (his mom’s house, actually) has no air conditioning. NONE. Throw in 40°C (104°F) summer heat and the sun beating right into our bedroom window, and our room is miserable in the summer. We managed to survive by having ice cold showers before bed, blasting both our ceiling fan and oscillating floor fan and sleeping naked with no sheets. Even then, it was horrible.

People would say to us, “Oh, you guys have a pool! You should be able to escape the heat easily!” Well, yes and no. Sure, a nice dip in the pool mid-day helps at that moment, but we can’t bring the pool inside with us. So, at the end of the summer of suffering, Kyle and I swore that if we hadn’t purchased a house of our own by the summer (which we sadly haven’t) we’d invest in a portable AC unit.

On Saturday, we ventured over to Costco to take a peek at what they had in store, since they usually have the best prices and their return policy is crazy. There was one unit on sale for $100 off, so we scooped it up! You should’ve seen the show trying to fit this behemoth into my little hatchback car. Oops, we should’ve taken the truck I suppose.

So voilà! Our brand new AC unit!

Okay, it may be a little big, but da-yum, does it cool our room down! And ignore my messy dresser. And unmade bed.

Kyle turned it on last night for about an hour before we went to bed and our room was like a meat locker. Absolutely freezing! It was a-maze-ing.

I’m really looking forward to being able to sleep comfortably this summer. No more sweating to death. No more sleeping naked! No more snuggling up to Kyle after his ice-cold showers to steal all the coolness away from him! Now I can snuggle up to him without him telling me to get away from him!

So bring it on, summer heat! You can’t ruin my life this time around! Ha!
