To the Big League

This is my special announcement that I had mentioned a couple times!

Kyle got a new job at a MAJOR production mine right outside of town (about 40 minutes). He’ll be welding up a storm at his dream job. Working at this place is like a goal for anyone with a trade living in the area. The wage and benefits are freaking amazing. Full medical and dental? Yes please!

Kyle had the job interview in November last year, but we kept it hush hush until we knew exactly if and when he got the job. He passed the interview, passed the medical exams, passed the aptitude tests and got a letter in the mail saying he would start as soon as there was a vacancy. That vacancy showed up a couple weeks ago, but because the job is union, it had to be posted internally for a week. Boo! That was the longest week ever!

But, last Wednesday he got the call, and he starts at the end of this month! We’ve been calling this his call to the major league. Today he’s giving his notice to his current employer. :(

I’m not going to lie, it’s going to be hard to adjust to everything at first. He’s going from a Monday to Friday job to a 4×4 shift with two day and two night shifts. Also, the drive to work will be twice as long, although there are a lot of carpool opportunities, and it’s just a BIG PLACE. Kyle’s also really going to miss the people he currently works with. They’ve been amazing to him, especially his bosses, so the next two weeks is going to be hard.

Also – because of the 4×4, it just so happens to work out where his first day shift is the day of our wedding … I have no doubt that his future boss will let him have the time off, but we can’t help but panic a little bit. Everyone I know who works up there says it won’t be a problem, but you never know! He’ll have a different foreman than them, so who knows. Fingers crossed!

So there you have it! My special announcement – no babies included!

Seven Quick Takes

  1. Kyle’s birthday was on Monday and we celebrated by going out for Greek food with his mom and her boyfriend, followed by cake at our place. It was a nice quiet evening, which is good, because our friends are coming over tonight for fun and shinanigans! It shall be a grand event.
  2. I should be able to share that exciting news I had hinted at last week with you early next week! We’re just waiting on a couple of things to happen first :D
  3. I’m pretty sure I’ve already mentioned this a couple times, but my wedding is now EXACTLY three months away. I’m excited and terrified all at the same time. My dress should be in at the end of the month! I can’t wait to put it on again. I may just stroll around downtown in it, even, as long as Kyle’s not lurking around a corner somewhere to sneak a peek ;)
  4. I finished Water for Elephants a couple weeks ago and absolutely LOVED it, especially the ending. I can’t wait to watch the movie starring Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson – Apparently it doesn’t come out until April 22? No fair.
  5. I am feeling slightly overwhelmed with freelance work at the moment, only because the people who I have to interview don’t understand that I’m a busy person too. My deadline is Wednesday next week and I’m just hoping to hell that I make it on time. Gaah.
  6. I have come to accept that I will never be awesome at yoga. On Wednesday it was snowing like crazy when I got up to go to the gym, so I stayed at home and did some Yoga Meltdown withthe devil woman Jillian Michaels. My wrists are too weak to do anything. Chaturanga push-ups? Forget it. I guess it’s years of typing at a keyboard and ringing in groceries that have done them in. I do, however, love the locust pose. It makes my back feel amazing! (Note to self: Make chiropractor appointment) Yeah, I know practice makes perfect, but I just don’t love yoga like a lot of other people do.
  7. I had my Won Ton soup fix FINALLY last night, with enough for leftovers today. OMG. I can die happy. :)

Happy Friday! Have YOU satisfied any cravings lately?

ABC’s

I saw this the other day on Amber’s blog and thought it was a fun, easy way to fill in a blogging day. Meme’s are pretty much my best friend!

Age: 24 and counting. I’m going to be 25 in a couple months! Wowzers!

Bed size: We have an amazing Queen size bed. It’s super comfortable and I’m so glad I dropped the extra money on the better mattress. Our next one may be  King, but we’re not 100% sure. I don’t think the biggest bed in the world would solve our bed hog problems, lol

Chore you dislike: Laundry and vacuuming. Hate them both! It’s more just folding the laundry and putting it away than tossing it in the machine. Vacuuming is a pain because we have three levels to do, and there’s always dog hair EVERYWHERE. Ugh.

Dogs: One crazy yet amazing Malamute :)

Essential start to your day: Coffee. Some days it can wait, but most of the time, I need it in a bad way.

Favorite colour: Yellow and blue.

Gold or silver: White gold, or platinum ;) Yellow gold looks to goddy to me.

Height: I think I’m about 5’4″.

Instruments you play(ed): I used to play the piano. Not that I can’t today, I just don’t. Get it? lol.

Job title: Freelance writer/Classified clerk/Grocery store cashier

Kids: Not yet! Maybe in a year or so?

Live: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada. Woo!

Mom’s name: Lori. I love my Mommy!

Nicknames: I don’t really have any! People call me by my first and last name a lot. I guess they think it “flows” well, lol

Overnight hospital stays: None, go me! *knocks on wood*

Pet peeve: Repetitive noises. Hate. them.

Quote from a movie: “Fill your hands you son of a bitch!”

Righty or Lefty: Righty

Siblings: One younger brother. I won’t say little because he’s taller than me, lol

Time you wake up: Usually around 8 a.m. if I don’t go to the gym, 6:45 if I do.

Underwear: Am I wearing any? No, but I’m in my pajamas.

Vegetables you don’t like: Brussell Sprouts. I’m not a huge fan of beets either.

What makes you run late: Getting distracted by something. The other day it was Angry Birds. Stupid birds!

X-Rays you’ve had: My shoulder and my teeth.

Yummy food you make: The lasagna I make is epic.

Zoo animal favorite: I’m not sure – I haven’t been to a zoo in ages!
