Wine and Love v3

How is this only my third Wine and Love? Who knows! Be sure to link up at Nora’s blog!

Here’s what’s making me hit the bottle this week:

  • Municipal elections. It’s that time in BC right now and it’s BONKERS at work. I’m now basing my votes on who irritates me the least. Seriously.
  • Time zones. Making offers on houses when the owners live in Aussieland is irritating!
  • The weather is COLD. I’m more than certain it’s going to snow soon. Very soon.
  • Random food cravings.
  • My internet connection at home. The wireless in our house has been going CRAZY. I have to reset our router at least twice a day. Annoying!

Here’s what’s making me feel the love:

  • Having a ridiculously amazing husband. Seriously, he’s been on his A-game for the past little while!
  • Cooking and baking. I made elk spaghetti sauce last night for dinner and I’m making cookies for my dad this weekend. I really want to make white chocolate cranberry cookies too!
  • Reading. I’m reading another Jennifer Weiner book and I can’t wait to finish it and write a review.
  • My ridiculous dog. She’s just been crazy silly lately!
  • Visiting with friends! Kyle and I have been been doing tons of visiting this past little bit, and it’s been way too overdue.
What are your Wines and Love this week?

House Hunting, Round Bazillion

Seriously, it feels like we’ve been looking at houses forever. I guess we have since we pretty much just bought our current place last September and now we’re hunting again. *sigh* Before I bore you with house hunting details, I must show you what I woke up to this morning:

Pardon the reflection of my ceiling fan, but it’s downright miserable outside now! Like, 40% chance of snow, miserable. I better get my winter tires on soon!

Now – Onto the house hunting!

I blogged about this before, but just in case you don’t feel like clicking the link to read the post, basically, we’re looking for a detached home because we’re tired of being attached to our neighbours.

Monday after work Kyle and I went and looked at a place on a street that we’ve always wanted to live on, but the majority of the houses are single bathroom, two bedroom jobs, so it wasn’t quiet ideal for us. The house on Monday was a little bigger, had two bathrooms, and was GORGEOUS but – a little too small. Enter our original #3 house.

Back in our first couple weeks of detached home hunting, we viewed a handful of houses and had narrowed it down to our top two (the two I mentioned in the first link above). Well, House #1 sold right before we went for our second viewing. House #2, after a second viewing with my mom in tow, was scratched off the list due to its slight impracticality. It was awesome, but it only had two bedrooms upstairs and really, we want the bedrooms all in one central location, especially in a larger house.

So – after that, and the viewing on Monday, we went back to House #3. House #3 was right behind #1 and 2 because while it has a HUGE backyard, it was way up a hill and the dining room wasn’t quiet ideal (read: smaller). But, it was still amazing, and after a little/5 minutes of thinking, we decided to put an offer on it:

The time difference thing? Well, the owners of the house moved to AUSTRALIA so we have an 18 hour time difference to deal with. When we made our offer, it was 1 a.m., assuming they’re on the Sydney-side of the country. (We have no idea) As of right now we still haven’t heard anything back from them on our offer, but we’re not expecting negotiations to go quickly. It’s not like we’re in a huge rush to move either.

Ah, and we finally decided that if we do get this place, we’ll rent out our townhouse for a couple years. We really wouldn’t make anything off it (we’d probably actually take a slight loss) so since we can afford it, we’ll rent it out.

Fingers crossed!

What a random lot of questions today! Be sure to click the button above and read more ToT entries and link up with Chelsea!

1. What is the worst compliment you have ever received?
My MIL once said to me, “It looks like you’ve lost weight!” when I’m pretty sure I had actually gained a couple pounds. Thanks, Mom!

2. Did you/would you tell everyone the name of your baby before they were born, keep it a secret, or not choose until after they were born?
I plan on keeping it a secret, because some people are evil and will steal your baby names. I’m paranoid that way, and Kyle and I rarely agree on names. I’m going to hoard what I have, thanks!

3. What is your favourite candle smell?
I’m not a huge scented candle fan, but I like peachy smelling ones.

4. What is the best birthday/Christmas gift you received when you were pregnant or the best birthday/Christmas gift you gave a pregnant person that was really appreciated?
I haven’t done either, really. When my BBF’s baby was born I sent her/baby a collection of Robert Munsch books because they’re AMAZING and every child should be read to. She really appreciated it (I think!).

5. Who was your favorite teacher?
In elementary school, I had the same teacher for Grades 3 and 4 and she was amazing! Full of energy and super nice too. She really appreciated every one of her students no matter what. Seriously the best!

6. What is the best game/activity you have ever played at a baby shower?
I’ve never been to one, so I don’t know! I know if I were the guest of honour I wouldn’t like the one where people guess the circumference of your belly. I just think that pregnant women who feel like whales shouldn’t have the fact rubbed in their faces.

7. What was your major in college and did you end up using it in your career?
I didn’t have a major, just a straight-up degree, and I am, shockingly, using it! Shocking, only because it’s stinkin’ hard to get established as a journalist these days.

8. What is a beauty product you swear by?
It’s not really a beauty product, but I swear by washing my face in the morning with a washcloth. It scrubs away all of that nasty dead skin and leaves my skin smoother!

9. What is the kindest thing a stranger has ever done for you?
Not to make my city sound like a bunch of douchebags, but I really can’t think of anything. I think some guy helped me carry something heavy and awkward to my car once, but that’s all I can think of.

10. If you could recommend one new baby necessity, what would it be?
I really couldn’t recommend anything, since I’m baby-less and all. Sorry!
