25 Weeks and What I Look Forward To

There’s a lot of stuff I’m looking forward to once baby arrives, in so many ways.

I look forward to …

… people to stop asking me how I feel. Really, I feel the same everyday, and asking me everyday is getting old. Mostly it’s just coworkers making conversation. It’s like pregnancy has made me a beacon for small talk; “How are you feeling?” “How far along are you now?” “You’re getting bigger!” Yes, yes – I feel fine, all things considered, I’m a week further along than the last time you asked, and thanks for noticing how closer to being the size of a house I’ve become.

… being comfortable. I still have a few months to go, but I’m already tired of not being comfortable. If it’s not my hips, it my lower back that’s hurting. If my sinuses aren’t killing me it’s allergies. If it’s not laying awake and not being able to fall asleep, it’s wanting to nap all afternoon. I really miss taking sinus and pain meds, sleeping pills and allergy remedies! I know it makes me sound like a big ol’ pill popper, but being able to find relief is something I really look forward to.

… my body to stop doing weird things. I know some things will continue on into post-pregnancy (like leaky boobs – don’t even get me started on those), but I’m already so over them. I really didn’t want my boobs to get bigger, but they did. I also look forward to not having heartburn, because it’s so uncomfortable, and feeling like I have to pee every 5 minutes. Seriously – it gets old, and I’m sure my family is tired of hearing me go, “Oh, gotta pee!”

… not wanting to eat everything in sight. At first I was happy to have an appetite again after not being able to eat properly during my first trimester, but it’s starting to get ridiculous. I’m CONSTANTLY hungry, and have been eating way too much garbage food to  satisfy my cravings. I’ve been trying to eat healthier foods by drinking smoothies and fruit, but when I crave junk food, it’s too easy to cave. I just have to keep reminding myself that the more crap I eat, the more my chances are of developing gestational diabetes. No fun!

… having baby be here already! Of course I wouldn’t leave that one out! Despite all my pissing and moaning about pregnancy, Kyle and I can’t wait for our little girl to arrive. In just a few short months we’ll be a family of three, which is hard to believe! We’re both so excited to be parents, despite any challenges that are to come.

Now, onto your regular programming:

How far along? 25 Weeks!

How big is baby? She’s about 13.5″ long and approximately 1.5lbs , according to BabyCentre.ca.

Total weight gain/loss: About a week ago I weighed about 130lbs. I have my doctor’s appointment on Thursday, so that will give me a better idea of how much I’ve gained.

Maternity Clothes? I’m starting to consider buying some spring/summery clothes since it’s finally starting to get warm! (Yay spring!) A friend pointed out to me how unfair it is that Old Navy’s Canadian online store doesn’t have their maternity line, only the US store, and the US store doesn’t ship to Canada. Boo! So not fair, because they’re so much cheaper than the specialty maternity stores here. :(

Stretch marks? None, none, none!

Sleep: What sleep? The past couple nights I’ve slept like absolute garbage. I don’t know if it’s because it’s getting warmer, but I can’ get comfortable, I wake up sweating to death, and the heartburn – on the heartburn! It’s horrid. Baby better have lots of hair when she pops out!

Movement: Tons! This past week it seems like she hasn’t stopped moving around, it’s almost annoying! And I think she’s discovered my ribs too. Hello, human xylophone!

Food cravings: Ice cream, and anything I smell/see on TV that looks good.

What I miss: If for whatever reason you scrolled past what I wrote above, go back and read it.

What I am looking forward to: Shopping with the in-laws in a couple weeks! My MIL wants to take Kyle and I shopped for furniture and what not, so I’m game! We’re definitely getting a glider (OMG WANT ONE SO MUCH!) and I’m not sure what else. We’ll see!

Milestones: We got a couple of really cute baby outfits from family members. My aunt was up visiting and bought a 3-6mth outfit, and my grandpa bought us a really cute newborn outfit. In all honestly, my grandma was gearing up to go baby shopping, but then she fell ill and it never happened. Knowing how much my grandma was looking forward to shopping, my grandpa went and bought the outfit all on his own, showed it to my grandma, she “OK’d” it, and he gave it to me the other day. My grandpa is an amazing man! Here’s a pic of the two outfits:

My grandpa's pick on the left, my aunt's on the right!

What did you look forward to when you were pregnant?
If you don’t have kids, do you any apprehensions about what happens when you’re pregnant?

Listy Friday

I have plans to throw together a decent blog post last night, but then I decided to be lazy. So now you get a hap-hazard list of randomness, in true Friday fashion.

  • Pregnancy has left me craving way more ice cream than usual. The cookies and cream ice cream in my freezer is almost gone. So what does my darling husband do? Goes out to the store to buy me some! And not just one measly carton of ice cream – he brings back a good variety! I got chocolate drumsticks, strawberry sundae ice cream and Toll House cookie dough ice cream. Needless to say, I am a happy girl! Best Husband of the Year Award? Kyle is definitely a contender. Oh, and photo proof of my happiness:
  • Next weekend my little brother is moving to Vancouver to start digital art & design school. It’s silly how much I think I’ll actually miss him! Our relationship has certainly changed now that we’re both adults, and it’s a a good thing. We seem to communicate a bit better and a lot more! Hopefully he visits when he can. I know he hopes to come visit when the baby arrives, which is around his 23rd birthday! Actually, Baby is due three days after his birthday. He really doesn’t want the baby to come on this birthday, claiming that it’s HIS day, lol. I tell him I’m going to have the baby then just to spite him ;)
  • Next Friday Kyle, Daphne (yes, Daphne) and I are going to meet our potential new pup! He’s so cute and adorable, I really hope everything goes well! Fingers crossed!
  • I hate tax season. Seriously. Last year I got screwed and had to pay about $1,200 back to the government. I have a feeling this year won’t be any  better. Oh, and the place that did our taxes last year also screwed up Kyle’s return, and he had to pay back $200 as well. This year we’re going to an accountant, so hopefully we can figure something out that works. If not, I’ll have to have a serious conversation with payroll at work to take more tax $ off my paychecks.
  • If you’re bored and want to draw horribly unartistic drawings with me, play Draw Something with me! My username is KaraEvs!
  • My grandma is doing a lot better these days. She’s still not 100%, no where near, but she’s so. much. better. It’s going to be a really long road, but we’re all hopeful. I really want to thank everyone for their well wishes! It means a lot.
  • I hope everyone has an awesometastic weekend!

What are your weekend plans??

Ten on Tuesday

1. What are your designated chores in your home?
We don’t really have designated chores. Kyle and I both do what we can, when we can. I will say that if I’m vacuuming or doing laundry Kyle will help me by lugging the vacuum or laundry basket downstairs for me if it’s too heavy. I’m getting too pregnant to be lifting heavy and awkward things!

2. What is your least favorite chore to do around the hose?
Definitely cleaning the bathrooms, which reminds me, they need to be done. Ugh.

3. What was your designated chore growing up?
Unloading the dishwasher, mostly. Or vacuuming.

4. Did you get paid to do chores or was your allowance connected to you completing your chores?
I think my allowance was connected to me completing my chores. I really don’t remember though.

5. If you had a bit of extra money, would you hire a cleaning person or would you save the money for something else?
It would depend. Do I desperately need help keeping on top of my cleaning? If so, then I’d definitely pay to have someone clean my house. If not, then probably not.

6. What chores will you make your kids do around the house?
Cleaning their rooms, helping in the kitchen, and maybe laundry when they’re old enough.

7. How frequently do you do laundry? Wash your sheets? Dust?
I think we do laundry about twice a week, once when Kyle is working and once when he’s off. We have three sets of sheets, so we change them once a week. Don’t even ask me about dusting … it doesn’t happen nearly as often as it should.

8. Do you have a designated “chore day” during the week?
No. Because Kyle works shift work, we just do housework whenever.

9. What is your favourite chore–if such a thing exists?
No such thing exists. If I enjoyed it, it wouldn’t be a chore, now wouldn’t it? ;)

10. Do you do anything to help pass the time while doing chores (music, TV, etc.)?
Sometimes when I vacuum I’ll have my iPod on, or when I’m putting laundry away I’ll turn the TV on. Usually with the TV on it takes me longer to finish things because I get distracted.
