Random Photo Post

I’m bored. Kyle’s watching Gold Rush on TV and I’m not a fan, so I’m getting posts ready to go for this week.

I just thought I’d throw in a random Sunday update with a couple photos I’ve taken recently.

First, a photo of the “view” behind my house last week. It’s been SUPER foggy lately and while the sun tries its hardest to break through all the cloud, it rarely succeeded before I had to go to work in the afternoon. I was letting Daphne out for her morning tinkle time and noticed eerie yet pretty the sun looked through the fog. It was taken in manual mode at 1/3200 sec. and f/20:

This photo I actually took this morning after I had Kyle take my weekly baby bump photo. Who doesn’t like taking photos of their pets? Anyway, I was using a gum wrapper as “bait” (she LOOVES mint!) to get Daphne to sit still, and just as I clicked the shutter she licked her lips. The camera was in full-auto mode, but I think the end result is quite amusing:

That’s it for today! Hope you’re having a lovely Sunday!

Seven Quick Takes

Valentine’s Day is next week and I could care less about it. Kyle and I usually don’t do anything special for it, so it’s not a “big deal” holiday to me. You better believe I’ll be getting nauseous reading everyone’s “Aww, my man bought me flowers/a teddy/a mushy card” posts on Facebook. Perhaps I’m just not the die-hard romantic like some people are. I will say that Kyle and I will be going to my monthly doctor appointment together. I think hearing our baby’s heart beat will make for a pretty decent day. :)

I’ve started a baby registry and have a total of 6 things in it. It doesn’t help that the website is being lame, but what one earth do I add to it? So far I have a Bumbo chair and the tray, a baby monitor, a baby bath, a glider/ottoman and a wipes warmer. Borrrr-ing. Any suggestions on what I should ask for?

Speaking of baby stuff – one of Kyle’s coworkers is a father to a daughter who has grown out of a TON of baby stuff – clothes, toys, stroller, etc., and wants to give it all away to us! I’m in awe of his generosity and can’t wait to sift through all the goodies when it arrives. Anything I don’t need or want I’ll donate to someone in need or to charity.

Kyle and I were supposed to head to Vancouver tomorrow for the day to meet a dog we were interested in adopting. As it turns out, he unfortunately showed some behaviour on the weekend that made him not as great a match as he originally sounded like, so we’re no longer making the trip. We’re a little bummed, but we’re glad the doggy adoption agency is looking out for both our and the dog’s best interest. There are some dogs that will be available in about a month’s time, so I’ll keep you posted on what goes down. I’m still not 100% ready to share all the details behind why we’re choosing to adopt or what kind of dog we’re adopting. I’ll save that post once we do adopt!

Kyle’s birthday is at the end of the month and I told him that I’d make him a vanilla cake. Newsflash: I’ve never actually made a vanilla cake from scratch before, I’ve only ever made chocolate cakes! So – if anyone has a vanilla cake recipe that makes a mean, delicious and rich/flavourful cake – please send me the recipe or link!! No worries about icing recipes – I’m a vanilla icing making champ! All this also reminds me that I have to actually go out and buy some cake pans, since I apparently don’t have any. What?

Last summer, when I quit Job #2, I left behind a measly pension. Last month I got a letter in the mail saying that I had two options: to either wait and receive about $30/mth when I retire or to get a nice payout in 4-6 weeks. Guess which option I took? If you’re not into guessing: PAYOUT! Yay! It’s like free money that was mine to begin with. So now, I’m crib shopping! SO EXCITING! Toys R’ Us actually just sent a flyer out that has a gorgeous crib and dresser for sale, so I’m thinking I’m going to go buy it. *squeee*

I suppose I can announce that our baby girl is going to be known on my blog as Baby I. (That’s an I, as in ice, igloo, iguana. Not an L or 1.) Now you can start guessing what we’ve picked for a name! (Not that I’m going to tell you anyway ;))

What’s in My Cabinet

Or should I say, what products are sitting on top on my bathroom counter?

I’ve seen similar posts on a couple of different blogs recently, so I figured I may as well give it a whirl :)

I’ll start with the stuff outside of the bin:

Clockwise, from top left:

  • Vaseline Total Moisture Cocoa Radiant Lotion. I bought this to help fight stretch marks, and I think I’ll continue to use it afterwards since it smells so good and leaves my skin nice and soft.
  • Pantene Medium-Think Volumizing hair spray. I actually don’t use it to volumize, just to keep my hair in place when I toss it into a ponytail.
  • Proactiv skin care line. You know: The stuff Katy Perry, the Biebs, and celebs alike vouch for in the TV commercials? I’ve been meaning to do a product review on these, but I keep forgetting!

Now, for the stuff IN the bin, clockwise from top left:

  • Hairbrush! I love this hairbrush but it’s starting to fall apart a little bit. I also have a 1″ round brush that I use when I blow-dry my hair.
  • Bath & Body Works Lemon Vanilla body lotion. It smells SOOOO good – I usually wear it in the summer since it’s so summery smelling.
  • Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer. This stuff is awesome! Not only does it moisturize my dry skin, but it also fights zits at the same time! A lifesaver, for sure.
  • Dove Clinical Protection Visibly Smooth anti-perspirant. This stuff works wonders for keeping my pits dry and smelling fresh. The only downside is that I find it just makes me sweat elsewear more. (Back, stomach, chest.) Luckily, I only break out in that much of a sweat when I’m physically active or completely nervous.
  • I have a little flower pot inside this bin, which has:
    • Cover Girl Fresh Complexion Concealer in Natural Beige. I get lots of random breakouts, so my concealer is my one “makeup bag must-have!”
    • Clean & Clear Invisible Blemish treatment. Zip-zapper for zits that are starting to form that are going to be huuuuge and sore. I love how it goes on clear!
    • Sally Hansen eyelash curler. My eyelashes stick straight out if I don’t curl them, which leads to my eyelashes sticking together when I apply mascara. Annoying!
    • Cover Girl LastBlast Fusion in Very Black. I’ve tried lots of different mascaras and this one seems to work the best for me. It’s water resistant, not water proof, so it still comes off when I wash my face at night but it doesn’t run everywhere if I get teary-eyed, and it stays on all day! Plus it adds a little volume and length to my short, stubby lashes.
  • Back in the regular bin, I have John Frieda Frizz-Ease Straight Fixation Smoothing Creme. I use it in my hair before I blow-dry to help keep it nice and smooth. It’s really helped in the dry winter to cut back on static, plus it makes my hair smell nice!
  • Bath & Body Works Apricot Vanilla lotion. It smells almost as good as the Lemon Vanilla lotion. Again, I use it mostly in the summer.

I also have a few other odds & ends, but these (other than my shampoo & conditioner) are my main go-to’s for my morning routine!

Do you use any of these products?
