Weekend Update

We had a busy one this weekend! Here’s what we got up to:

I went for a quick treadmill run in the morning and Norah slept in until just after 6am, which meant I didn’t have to tend to her mid-run, so that was a huge bonus! The icing on the cake was that she woke up with a dry Pull-Up AND took herself to the bathroom right away, so she’s getting closer to being fully potty trained. Yay!

After Isla finished school we headed down to my MIL’s for an early dinner as she was watching Norah while Isla and I went to watch a dance recital. The studio she attends showcases the “big kids” during three different evening shows, while Isla’s age group performs in the afternoon. Since she’s going to be a “big kid” next dance season, I thought I’d take her to watch them perform. It was a bit of a late night, but she absolutely loved it!

Her favourite performances that night were “Moana and allll the ballet” and her eyes really lit up when one of her teachers performed in a group ballet routine. I think watching the big kid show got her pretty excited to do her own recital on Saturday and Sunday!

Norah “slept in” until just after 6, so she watched some cartoons on the iPad for a bit while I waited for the coffee to be ready and scrolled Instagram. I saw one of Joe Rogan’s posts saying that he was going to be in Vancouver in August, and out of curiously I clicked through to the ticket information. As it turns out, he’s actually going to be in Abbotsford, and there were still tickets available, so I woke Kyle up to run the idea of going by him. The show is on his regular day off, so we bought ourselves tickets! It was a total whim but we’re pumped to go see him live!

Other than that, we had a relatively quiet morning before I got Isla’s dance things together and we headed down to my mom’s as she was watching Norah while Isla had her recital. We had a quick lunch then it was time to get ready for the show!

How can this be my baby’s fourth dance recital and she’ll soon be 6? I don’t even know …

Anyway, I got her to the theatre so she could go backstage, then I just hung around and waited for Kyle and the remainder of our family to arrive. We slowly filed into the theatre and the show got underway!

Isla’s group did awesome during their routine and they all nailed it! Isla even got to dance beside one of her best friends, so that made her super happy. It was a long exhausting day, but she made me so proud.

Norah was proud of her ice cream cone.

We had another lazy-ish morning aside from grocery shopping and the usual errands, and then it was time to get Isla ready for her 2nd recital of the weekend.

Kyle spent most of the day working on building some bases for the gazebo we bought for our deck. Technically it’s supposed to be anchored directly to the deck, but there’s no chance in hell we’re ruining the Duradek for a cheap gazebo, haha. I think the bases will work great to keep it from flying away in the wind, so we shall keep our fingers crossed!

My mom was taking Isla to the recital, so around 1pm she picked Isla up I got baking! Because Isla’s birthday falls during summer vacation time, her teacher is picked arbitrary days in June all the “off-season” kids to celebrate in their classroom. Isla’s special day is today, (Monday) so I make her ice cream cone cupcakes to share with her class. They were actually really easy to make and she loves them!

Kyle’s aunt & uncle popped over for a quick visit in the afternoon, and then Isla got home from her recital just after 4pm. Kyle came in from his “workshop” and we got to making dinner before winding down for the night.

It was a pretty exhausting weekend but it was a productive one! Now it’s Monday and I’m gearing up for another busy week/weekend; I’m dropping in on a run club Wednesday night and have ball Thursday, plus a final exam on Friday. Whew!

How was your weekend??

(Long) Weekend Update

Happy Tuesday everyone! This past weekend marked the kick-off for summer here in B.C., as we recognized Victoria Day and celebrated a long weekend! It was an even longer weekend for us as Isla didn’t have school on Friday, so we packed in as much fun and adventure as we could over the last four days.

Isla has been begging me to ride the city bus, so I rounded up some spare change and we rode the bus from our house to the mall for a little shopping! I had to exchange a shirt I got for my birthday at Lululemon, plus I had a gift card to spend there as well. We had some lunch in the food court before heading back to the bus stop to catch the bus home.

Let me just say that while I’m thankful that we live on a major bus route, I’m hoping Isla doesn’t ask to ride it again. I understand why others choose/have to ride the bus, but it’s definitely not for me! Isla and Norah both had a blast though, so I suppose that’s the most important thing.

Isla and I also worked on her birthday invitations while Norah napped in the afternoon. I cannot believe she’s turning six in about a month!

My brother and his girlfriend came up to visit for the Long Weekend, so on Saturday the girls and I met up with them and my mom at the Farmers’ Market. While there wasn’t much for produce yet, the girls enjoyed some baked goods and we enjoyed browsing around downtown.

My dad had drove into town as well to visit with my brother, so we all went out for dim sum with him. Unfortunately, Isla had wiped out on the sidewalk and didn’t feel up to joining us, so she went home with my mom while the rest of us stuffed ourselves with BBQ pork buns and dumplings.

After lunch we parted ways with my dad and headed back to my mom’s for a little siesta. Once Norah woke up from her nap we walked over to my grandpa’s for a quick visit. I’m pretty glad he’s now living in Kamloops and it’s easier to visit!

We eventually walked back to my mom’s and threw some hamburgers on the barbecue for dinner, and soon it was time for me to pack up the girls and get them to bed!

Kyle had unfortunately had to work overtime, but he was home when we got back so he helped tuck them in for the night. Our friends had stopped by for a visit as well, so it was nice to catch up with them!

It was Kyle’s dad’s birthday, so we headed out of town to go visit him for the day! Isla wasn’t feeling too hot and we had to stop twice for her to get some fresh air, but I managed to snap this picture of the view towards Kamloops:

I always forgot how beautiful our landscape is! And it’s hard to see, but there are SO many logs and debris in the lake from high water.

Unfortunately, Isla got sick during one of those pit stops, but she seemed to be okay after that. We got to Kyle’s dad’s and the girls got to rip around in his golf cart, and then we all headed to Horsting’s Farm for lunch! I bought a pie, and the girls stuffed their faces with ice cream.

We eventually headed home and Isla really started not feeling well. We ordered pizza for dinner and she barely ate, so it was into the bath and to bed for her.

We had a lazy-ish morning and eventually headed over to the greenhouse to buy some tomato plants and flowers to plant! Kyle bought five tomato plants and I picked out a bunch of flowers to put into my giant flower pot for the front step. We had a few extras, so Kyle made me a little hanging basket as well! Now we’re ready for summer, although I think I may go buy one more big hanging basket to hang out front. The girls had a blast helping Kyle plant everything, to say the least, and I’m glad they’re learning some valuable life skills.

Isla and I did some chalk art on the sidewalk, and then we eventually made our way into the house to make dinner.

We’re now back to our regular weekday routine, but at least it’s a short week! We have another busy weekend ahead of us with the Blackwell Dairy 15K/3K Run – a family favourite for us! (Who can say ‘No’ to ice cream and pancakes?)

How was your weekend??

Weekend Update

Happy Monday, beauties! The forecast is calling for rain, but as I look out the window this Monday morning I can see the sun trying to punch through the clouds. Lets hope it succeeds and keeps the weekend’s weather going! Here’s what we got up to:

Kyle picked up an overtime shift at work but since we only had plans in the evening it worked out okay! I walked Isla to school in the morning with Norah in the stroller and Norah and I hung out at home for most of the day. I had a ton of homework to do, so she played/watched cartoons while I did that.

In the afternoon we walked to get Isla from school and they played on the playground for a little bit so Norah could get some of her pent up energy out.

We had friends come over for dinner and then after the girls went to bed we battled it out on the SNES Classic with a little Mario Kart and Super Mario World.

Saturday was probably the most busy/productive day of the weekend!

I played two games of slo-pitch for our neighbour’s team, one at 8am and the other at 2pm. I was fortunate enough to help the team bring in a couple of wins, and during my 2nd game Kyle had taken the girls to his mom’s to stay the night so we could have an early birthday celebration for me! We went for an amazing dinner and then went for a lovely walk along the trail near our house. It was simple but perfect. We got a little adulting in too and went and bought groceries at 8:30pm too. #keepinitreal ;)

I highly recommend the Spicy Lobster Spaghettini at Atlas!

The view from the trail!

Since the girls were away I got to sleep in until 7AM!! I’m sure that still seems early to some people, but when Norah is awake and ready to party by 6am most days, sleeping until 7 was certainly a treat! Kyle and I enjoyed our coffee in the morning, and then I headed out to a free yoga class courtesy of our local lululemon store. It’s been so long since I’ve done a class, but it was a nice, easy flow class and it was super relaxing! (Perfect after a busy Saturday!)

After class I picked up the girls and headed home as we had Kyle’s aunt & uncle over for lunch. They surprised me with a little birthday cake and present, and we had a lovely afternoon visit!

We were so full from lunch that we just made grilled cheese sandwiches and soup for dinner, and the girls went to bed early since they were wiped from such a busy weekend.

I think that’s about all we got up to! Today is my birthday (!) and I’m enjoying a nice, quiet(ish) day! I even slept until my alarm went off instead of being woken up by Norah. Can’t beat that ;)

How was your weekend?!
