Week in the Life: Friday

Morning // My alarm goes off at 7 am and Isla wanders in seconds afterwards to greet Kyle and I. I crawl out of bed after she nags me to get out of bed, and ask what she’d like for breakfast. This morning it’s eggs and a banana, so I happily oblige. (Although she did ask for waffles, but we don’t have any.) Kyle puts some cartoons on for her so we can hop in the shower, and then he heads outside to shovel the driveway. It was -12 and WINDY AND SNOWING. WTF, weather? Yesterday you were +8 and melty. When he’s done doing that we head downtown for our chiropractor appointments, then we stop off at the notary’s office to sign the paperwork for the sale of our townhouse. (Yay!) We also make a stop at a furniture store since they were advertising recliners on sale for Black Friday, but they weren’t exactly what we were looking for. We grabbed some Subway for lunch and headed home!

Afternoon // Isla had a nap and Kyle and I discussed what we’d like to do with the bit of money we were going to earn from the sale of the townhouse. We can’t decide if we should do something practical, like buy new appliances or have a patio installed in the summer, or just be reckless with it and spend it on wishlist items. We also ended up having power naps (I blame the cold weather), and Isla woke us up just after 3 pm. We managed to get up enough energy to make a quick trip down to Costco since I forgot a new items when I was there earlier in the week, and ended up having an early dinner in the food court. (Poutine for me, chicken strips and fries for Kyle and Isla!)

Kyle plays with her for a little bit after she’s done eating and I work on this blog post some more. I tag in and Isla and I watch some cartoons on the couch – Madagascar Christmas – and soon enough it’s time to get her ready for bed! After I get her to bed Kyle and I decide to watch The Town. It’s about -25°C/-13°F outside with the wind chill so it’s the perfect evening to just be cozy on the couch! (Although Daphne didn’t seem to care AT ALL about the temperature. Crazy dog!) Once the movie is over we head to bed as I’m sure we’ll end up having a busy Saturday!

How was your Friday? What are your plans for the weekend??

Week in the Life: Thursday

Morning // Isla comes in my room around 7:15 and says to me in a panicky voice that she needs to pee. She has a diaper on, but I jump out of bed to get her on the potty so she can keep her dry-diaper track record. Unfortunately, as soon as I take her diaper off and before I get her on the potty, she starts peeing and it’s all over the floor (and me). Wonderful. I clean up that whole mess and let Campbell out for a pee. When I let him in, I don’t notice that Isla has her fingers in the hinge side of the door and I pinch her fingers pretty badly. She cries, I feel awful, so it’s hugs, kisses and whatever she wants for breakfast. She chooses toast with peanut butter and jam, princess yogurt (which is a Minigo yogurt with Disney princesses on the container), and half a banana. I ease my guilt I make her chocolate milk instead of serving up regular milk. I make myself a cup of coffee (totally need this today), and a bagel, and sit down to catch up on social media, blogs, and finish yesterday’s post. My body hurrrrts from shovelling all that snow yesterday and I’m pretty sure a hot shower will make it feel a little better. I also had grand plans of taking Isla to a drop-in art session at the art gallery downtown, but I feel pretty rotten and stuffed up from this damn cold, so I decide we should probably stay home so I don’t pass my germs onto other parents and kids. Instead, I pull out Isla’s fort and she plays in there while I catch up on the PRV – Masterchef Junior and Dogs of War.

Afternoon // I pulled out some homemade chicken and rice soup from the freezer and heat it up for lunch for Isla and I. When she goes down for her nap I head outside and do the glamorous chore of picking up dog poop since tomorrow is garbage day. Then I come back inside and finish up the freelance work I started yesterday before Isla wakes up. When she wakes up from her nap we have a snack (pretzels and juice!) and go downstairs to play some more.

Evening // Kyle gets home and we have tacos for dinner! It’s also bath night for Isla, so I get her in the tub and she shows off how she “swims.” Once she’s bathed, dried and has her jammies on, it’s time for a story (Dr. Seuss’s ABC’s), and bedtime. Kyle’s in desperate need for a head shave, so we bust out the hair clippers and do his hair in the kitchen sink. While he’s showering, Isla wanders out of her room, so I put her back to bed. She wanders out again about 15 minutes later, and this time when I put her back to bed she stays there. Not too sure what that’s all about, but I think it may have something to do with a scary scene of a movie that she caught on TV. Kyle and I bunker down on the couch and watch a bit of Robocop on TV before going to bed at 10:30.

Week in the Life: Wednesday

Morning // I wake up just before 6 a.m. as Kyle’s getting read to head out the door and he announces that there’s at least 6″ of snow on the ground and it’s still coming down. (He didn’t lie! At 6:15 I measured almost 8″ of snow on our back deck!) Since I slept amazingly, I decide to stay awake, so I grab my Macbook and finish off yesterday’s Week in the Life post. Of course, the morning I get out of bed early, Isla sleeps in, but oh well. Before Isla got out of bed I shovelled a “trench” along our deck so the dogs could find their way to the stairs. (Or else they’d pee ON the deck and that’s just not cool.) Isla wakes up and I make her breakfast (Cheerios with some Fruit Loops tossed in), and around 9 a.m. we bundle up to go outside to shovel snow. That takes me almost 2 hours, and then it’s time to shower and warm up before having some lunch!

Afternoon // Since Isla slept in we watch The Voice results show and then I put her down for a nap. She’s reluctant, but I tell her that if she naps, we’ll bake muffins when she gets up. That’s good enough for her, so she agrees and has a nap. While she’s sleeping I do a bit of freelance writing. I notice that Daphne’s having some trouble moving as well, which is concerning, but it usually resolves itself. Isla wakes up and we make these banana chocolate chip muffins! She really loves helping me mix the ingredients and cannot wait to have a muffin after dinner!

Evening // I throw together some shake & bake chicken, steamed carrots and mashed potatoes for dinner and sit down once Kyle gets home from work. After dinner, Kyle volunteers to clean up the dishes (best husband ever), and Isla and I hang out in the living room and watch the last bit of a movie that’s on TV. Soon it’s Isla’s bedtime and she chooses “Where’s Spot?” for her story. Kyle and I watch a couple episodes of Pawn Stars on the internet before heading to bed.

How was YOUR Wednesday?? Did you get any snow?
