Weekend Update

Hiya folks! And woulda lookit that – I’m still pregnant! Har hardy har-har ….

But really, sometime this week would be nice. I see my doctor this afternoon, so we’ll see how it goes!

This weekend was pretty laid back and uneventful, but I thought I’d toss together a little update for fun.

Friday
Kyle worked an overtime shift at work, so it was just Isla and I at home. I had my doctor appointment in the morning and after a quick trip to Walmart to pick up some last-minute things for the hospital bag we laid low for the rest of the day.

Saturday
Kyle treated us to homemade pancakes for breakfast and we had a relatively lazy morning before heading to an appointment at our bank after lunch. (We party hard on weekends, haha!) We stopped at Home Depot to get some fence-toppers for our new fence and grabbed some Slurpees from 7-Eleven on our way home. Not long after we got home, a huge storm blew in and we hid inside. We had plans for a fantastic dinner until our power went out and the electric company’s website said it wouldn’t be back on until about 8 p.m. Boo! We called up Kyle’s mom to see if she had power and she did, so we ordered pizza and wings from Boston Pizza (hurray for gift cards!) and took our dinner there to eat. Poor Isla was stressing out pretty bad that the power was out, so it was good for her to be able to hide out at Grandma’s house. We checked to see if the power was back on around 7 and it was, so we headed home! (Also – How great is the internet? I’m so glad we were able to just look it up online to see if our power had been restored.)

Sunday
Isla was up bright and early (around 6:30) so I got up with her and let Kyle sleep in since it was Father’s Day! We had some breakfast and around 8 a.m. Isla wanted to give him the card she had made. We had a fairly lazy morning, although Kyle went for a quick run on the treadmill, and then we got motivated. Even though it was “his” day, Kyle vacuumed the whole house for me, mowed the lawns, AND made us lunch! Best husband ever <3 I went to the grocery store to pick up a few groceries to get us through the week, and we wandered down to his mom’s later in the afternoon for a barbecue with his family. By the time we got home and got Isla to bed just after 8, we were exhausted and ready for bed ourselves and nearly passed out at 8:30. Haha!

That pretty much sums things up!

How was YOUR weekend?? What do you do to pass the time when the power goes out??

Pregnancy 2.0: 39 weeks

39 weeks

Size of Baby: Baby N is the size of a small pumpkin, although it feels like I’m carrying around The Great Pumpkin under my shirt.

Feeling: So. Bloody. Done. But – my doctor is away right now so I’m OKish with holding out until next week. I’ve been going for short “walks” on our treadmill to help things along just a little bit, but my legs hate me for it. Just goes to show how out of shape I have become. At least my ankles haven’t ballooned – yet. Fingers crossed!! I have a pedicure appointment today and I’m sooo looking forward to it!

Craving: Spicy food. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s rumoured to help induce labour, but there’s a jar of medium salsa in my fridge with my name alllllll over it!

Other: Like I had mentioned, my doctor is away this week. He’ll be in his office Friday and I’ll see him for my usual prenatal appointment, but then he’s away for the weekend filling in at a hospital just out of town. (Actually, in my hometown!) As much as I desperately would like for him to get the ball rolling, I also am quite set on him being the one delivering this baby and not whatever OB is on call at the hospital. (I’ve met a few of them and so far there’s only one I actually like.) I’m keeping all of the things crossed until next week – but of course, that doesn’t necessarily mean much; “Baby will come when baby is ready.” *sigh*

Moments of Motherhood: Second pregnancies are no cakewalk

1VeaOrz7hXMMxkOmldDJs4MXSfgscPXP_lgI’m back again over at The Armchair Mayor News this week, this time discussing how second pregnancies have less “magic” and novelty than the first time around.

Here’s a snippet:

Not too long ago my husband very lovingly said to me, “Women really must have the worst memories ever.” Normally I’d argue with him and try and defend myself, but he’s kind of right.

Allow me to elaborate on why I so easily raised the white flag of defeat: Any day now, Baby Evans Numero Dos will be making her appearance and while I couldn’t be more excited to meet our new addition, I’m also finding that second pregnancies are overrated.

Now, before everyone starts slinging comments shouting, “Why have kids to begin with if you think that?” allow me to lower the flag a little and explain myself.
