It’s (in) the Pits

Disclaimer: I received a sample of this product for free in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Fun (and slightly gross) fact: I sweat like a pig. Every since puberty hit, I became a victim of sweat, whether it was from overheating, stress, or whatever. As a result, I have become somewhat of a underarm deodorant aficionado.

I remember my first-ever stick what a gross, powerdy one that smelled like baby powder and showed up on shirts worse than you wouldn’t believe, and I was made fun of in a major way. (Enter my self-conscienceness here.) Since then, I’ve tried almost every type of anti-stink stick out there. While my current “go-to” stick is an invisible solid, the raging hormones of postpartum awesomeness have put it to the test, and it’s failing slightly.

Of course, it was the perfect time to receive a sample of Secret Clear Gel to try out and review from BzzAgent.

I’ve never used a gel before so I was skeptical of how well it would perform; I’ve been using it for almost a week straight and I must say, I’m rather impressed.

My first concern was how fast it would dry after I put it on. Nothing is more uncomfortable than putting on deodorant right before you get dressed and then having your shirt get smeared with deodorant, or having deodorant stains in your armpits. Well guess what? Clear gel is exactly that – CLEAR! I had no wet marks in my pits, so that was a huge win in my books. I also didn’t have chunks of while powder hanging out in my armpit after I applied it – a huge plus for tank top season.

No residue here!

However, my BIGGEST concern was how well it protected against sweat. Like I said before, I sweat a LOT so sweat marks and of course, stank is always the #1 thing I want to avoid. (Really, who doesn’t consider that their top priority when choosing a pit stick?)

Dry pits are happy pits

We’ve been having funny weather lately where it’s been cool in the mornings but hot in the afternoons, so I’ve been choosing short-sleeved shirts over tanks to combat my body’s desire to either be too cold or too warm. Yesterday I decided to take the girls for a walk as it was starting to warm up, and I thought for sure that once I started to get moving and started to feel the heat, I’d have nice little wet marks in my pits to show for my efforts. Alas, upon lifting up my arms, they were dry as they could be thanks to Secret. Even better – they didn’t stink! Victory!

Other things I liked? The smell was not too shabby, although it may not have been my first choice if I were to go ahead and buy it for myself at the drug store. It also isn’t too pricy either; as I mentioned, I’ve bought almost every type of deodorant under the sun and the price point for this stick is spot-on for what it does.

My only gripe about Secret Clear Gel is that the gel feels kind of sticky once applied. It being the first gel deodorant I’ve ever tried, I don’t know if this is typical of this type of stick in general, but I’m not 100% sold on how it made my pits feel. Until I got used to it, I found myself constantly looking down at my armpits checking for wet marks.

How sweaty do you get? Does your underarm deodorant do the job?

TGIF v.19

The highs of my week were seeing Norah smile a “real” smile for the first time. Also, Isla has been taking herself potty which is a wonderful thing, especially when I’m stuck under Norah nursing.

Also, Kyle catching a little baby crow was pretty hilarious. It couldn’t fly yet and was stuck on the lawn at his mom’s place, so he scooped it up to show Isla. Its parents were not too impressed by our antics, so he put it back where he found it.

The low of my week was finding out that Costco’s online photo centre had been hacked and that they had suspended access for the time being. I have a bunch of photos I want to upload, so it’s super frustrating!

An internet find I loved was this post by Danielle at Sometimes Sweet. In it she talks about the decision of whether or not to have more kids, and it hits the nail on the head for how tough of a decision is really is.

The best money I spent was on some new songs on iTunes. The music in my car has been pretty stale, so it was time to refresh things a bit.

My favourite Isla and/or Norah moment was Isla’s love for “exercising.” Kyle showed her how to walk on the treadmill and lift weights, and now she loves to go downstairs with him and “exercise.” Perhaps I have a future marathon runner on my hands? Either way, it’s a great way for her to burn off some crazy, toddler energy!

The song that has been stuck in my head is the one that’s in the new Apple commercial. I didn’t even know what it was called or who sung it but it’s bloody catchy and stuck in my head. I eventually figured it out (“Freedom” by Pharell Williams) and went and bought it on iTunes. Very clever, Apple. You win, Apple. You win.

My favourite meal of the week was probably the beef stroganoff I made yesterday. Funny story: I was going to make it at home but Kyle ended up working overtime and it was going to be WAY too much food for just Isla and I. It was too late to switch plans because I already had most of the ingredients prepped and chopped. I was talking to my mom on the phone and she suggested that I just bring all the ingredients down to her place and cook dinner there. Done! I made dinner at my mom’s and it was great!

My plans for the weekend an appointment at the bank later this afternoon, nothing planned for Saturday, and I think Isla will be running the last 100m of the Kamloops Marathon with Kyle’s step-dad on Sunday. Fun!

What songs are you currently rocking out to in the car?

One month

one month

At one month, Norah:

– Weighs 12.7 lbs and is 22.25″ long! Such a little chunkster!

– Is a pretty content baby. She never fusses too much unless she’s hungry or has a dirty diaper. Or is in Walmart. We went in there the other day and she screamed the ENTIRE time and once we left she was quiet and fell back to sleep.

– Still has striking blue eyes. I’m still in disbelief that her eyes are blue, but genetics are always an interesting surprise!

– Is more alert and enjoys just staring at her surroundings.

– Is already starting to outgrow her newborn clothing. A lot of her sleepers aren’t fitting anymore, and it’s becoming more and more difficult to button up her onesies. *sigh*

– Smiled for the first time yesterday. Isla was the lucky person to the first non-gassy smile out of her!

I:

– Am slowly adjusting my life to raising two kids. Having a newborn and a 3-year old can be a huge pain in the ass challenge some days, but I’m managing okay. There’s been far too much Netflix on TV, but sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do. I’ve been able to shower and make dinner every day, so I call that a win ;)

– Have about 10lbs left to lose in order to be back at my pre-pregnancy weight. I’m waiting for my post-natal exam with my doctor before I start actually trying (see: exercising) to lose the rest of the weight, but I have grand plans to try and get on the Couch to 5K train and maybe run a 5K in the spring. We’ll see how that goes ;)
