TGIF v.6

The high of my week was nothing, really. I had a pretty laid back week and didn’t get up to much. I spent my free time either playing Fallout: New Vegas on my Xbox or  watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix.

The low of my week was hearing the horrible news about the events that occurred Wednesday in our nation’s capital. We hear so much about shootings happening all over the world, and to have something like this happen on our own soil is so, so saddening. May we remember the soldier whose life was taken, honour the heroes who risked their lives to stop the situation from escalating, and never forget what it means to be a Canadian.

A blog post I loved was not really a blog post, but this article really hit the nail on the head when it comes to the differences between how Canadian and American news stations cover breaking news. Canada is super saturated with American broadcast stations, and it’s alarming how quickly anchors throw around and freely use the words “terror,” “attacks,” and so on. I really believe that this only brings on more fear than necessary; the media needs to report on solid facts, not speculation or hearsay.

Okay – now that I’ve had my mini-rant, back to happier things…

The best money I spent was on a fold-up potty seat for Isla. She’s really getting the hang of going pee on the potty, but won’t go in public bathrooms because she’s afraid of falling in. Enter the fold-up seat! It’s also nice because now when we go visit people I don’t have to lug around her big, green potty seat. Win for Mommy, win for Isla!

My favourite Isla moment was when I was trying to brush her hair. She sometimes HATES having her hair brushed, and this week was no exception. I told her I needed to brush her hair to make her look beautiful (kill her with kindness?) and she just cried to me, “I DON’T WANNA BE BOOTIFUL, MOMMY.” Too funny.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj. How awful is that?

My favourite meal of the week was the homemade pizza I made for dinner on Monday. I forgot to take a picture of it when it came out of the oven (it was THAT good), but here’s a photo of the last piece before I devoured it the next day for lunch.

My plans for the weekend are keeping with the week’s theme of being laid back. I have no plans outside of the usual goings on of our household. I’d really like to get in a trip to the pumpkin patch sometime soon, but the weather has been so crumby that it’s hard to get outside.

What are your weekend plans?

TGIF v.5

The high of my week was quick, in-and-out visits to the doctor. (It was time for the God-awful lady-bits check up, and according to my doctor, “Everything looks great!” Hurray for my vagina!) Also (and not at all TMI), my slo-pitch team did SO GREAT during our wind-up tournament last weekend! We went 3-1 and ended up placing 2nd in our division. Not a bad end to an awesome season, either! (We went 11-1!) I’m bummed that ball is done until the spring, but it’s getting cold and I’m ready to bundle up!

The low of my week was our tenants giving their notice that they are moving out at the end of November. They’ve been in there for almost three years, and while I can understand their reasoning (she’s expecting their 2nd baby at the end of November), Kyle and I are now pondering what we should do with the townhouse. This is most definitely an FML moment. Also, Kyle, Isla and I all caught colds, so we’ve been battling congestion and snot all week.

A blog post I loved was this one at NZ Muse. In it she compares what different real estate price points can buy you in Auckland. Kyle and I love looking at real estate and are always amazing at what dollar amount buys you what kind of property in different cities. (We watch a lot of House Hunters on HGTV.) Her post inspired me to poke about the market here a little more and do my own comparison post in the future. :)

The best money I spent was winter tires for Vera, if that counts. Winter tends to strike by the end of October around here, and to legally drive on any major highways in BC you have to have snow rated tires on your vehicle by October 1. Anyway, Kyle and I bought tires for the car and had them installed on Wednesday.

Isla watching cartoons at the tire shop, waiting for our car to be done!

My favourite Isla moment was hearing ask Kyle to read her bedtime story to her. I’ve been doing the bedtime routine for as long as I can remember, and for her to ask Kyle to read the story and not me was amazing and heartbreaking at the same time. I really love the relationship that they’ve developed and it’s so great to see her and Kyle interact in the silliest ways.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Shake it Off” by good ol’ T. Swift. It is Isla’s absolute favourite song right now and as a result we are forced to listen to it all the time. It’s driving me crazy, actually. She asks for it by name every time we get into the car and every time I turn on iTunes. Oy.

My favourite meal of the week was probably the butter chicken leftovers I had Sunday after I came home from slo-pitch. Kyle made dinner and set a bowl aside for me, so it was great to come home to!

My plans for the weekend are a family dinner with Kyle’s family tonight, Thanksgiving dinner with my mom and step-dad tomorrow, a trip to the hometown on Sunday to visit my Grandpa, and who knows what on Monday! (Rest, maybe?)

TGIF v.4

This week’s TGIF is brought to you by YouTube and Pinterest … ;)

The high of my week was making the game saving play during our epic slo-pitch battle with our “rivals” Sunday evening. (Really, we actually get along, but it’s always a hard-fought battle when we play them!) I also got my hair trimmed on Wednesday which was AMAZING because it’s been about 3 months since it was last cut and the ends of my hair were starting to look horrid. My hairdresser even looked at my ends with a shocked look on her face and asked, “IS THIS MY CUT?? Your ends are awful!!” Needless to say, they are beautiful now, lol

The low of my week was some random sadness that came over me the other day while thinking about my Grandma. It was actually the first “moment” I had since we had spread her ashes back in May. It was really strange, but I guess it just goes to show that it doesn’t matter how long someone is gone for, you’ll still miss them no matter what.

A blog post I loved was not actually a blog post, but a video that a friend had sent to me after a hilarious discussion we had about Pinterest. It’s by WhatsUpMoms and it’s a Taylor Swift parody. I laughed so hard because it’s seriously the TRUTH:

The best money I spent was on a new purse I bought from Aldo. My old purse was falling apart – the strap was constantly falling off and it was driving me crazy. I finally was able to go to the mall where I found a nice, new purse, on sale to boot!

My favourite Isla moment was discovering that she can sing her ABC’s! The other night while she was in the bathtub she randomly just started singing them. I thought it was a fluke, so I asked her to sing them again so I could try and get it on video, and she did! Now it’s one of her favourite songs to sing.

The song that has been stuck in my head is “Stay with Me” by Sam Smith. It’s been on my iPod for a while now, but after watching Maiya Sykes sing it during The Voice blind auditions it’s been stuck in my head. And man, Maiya was CRAZY GOOD! (I’ll just add that the contestants this season are all amazing, and I’m loving Gwen & Pharrell as the new coaches.)

My favourite meal of the week was this American Goulash recipe I found on Pinterest via Gonna Want Seconds. I’ve been wanting to make an actual goulash for a while now, and this one was super tasty! (A bonus that Isla DEVOURED it as well!) It was so ridiculously easy to make, too.

My plans for the weekend are slo-pitch on Sunday, as per usual! And hopefully just relaxing a little on Saturday!

What are you weekend plans? What are your go-to recipes that I should absolutely try?
