Ten on Tuesday

Here’s another lovely Ten on Tuesday brought to you by Roots and Rings!

1. If you could open any type of store/place of business (money is no obstacle), what would you open?

Maybe a preschool? I went to preschool when I was little and I really think it helped prep me for Kindergarten. From what I remember, I never cried or asked my my mom when I went to “big girl” school. I’ve even looked into getting a teaching certificate, but apparently journalism isn’t recognized as a teachable area by the BC Teachers Association, so I’d have to do about 2 or 3 more years of schooling.

2. If all jobs paid equally, what occupation would you want? Why?

Well, that depends. Are we taking an average of all the wages in the country and getting paid that? But, if I have to pick one, I’d be a veterinarian. I just love animals, although I’d probably cry every time I had to put one down.

3. If you could be any animal in the world, what would you pick? Why?

A platypus, because they’re hilarious looking.

4. If offered one “service” free of charge, which would you choose? (chauffeur, maid, personal shopper, chef, etc.)

It’s a toss-up between a maid and chef. I hate cleaning, so that’s why I’d pick a maid. But cooking is a pain when I’m busy, so that’s why I’d want a personal chef. And (s)he would just cook me things I like, not what’s suppose to be good for me.

5. What is one habit, no matter how hard you try, you just can’t seem to break?

Accepting compliments. I have a habit of taking wonderful compliments and finding a negative in it. “You look really nice today.” “Ah, I think this shirt makes me look fat.” One day I’ll knock it off.

6. What is one thing that no matter how many you own, you still love to buy all the time?

Books or coffee mugs. I suppose 10 books sounds better than 10 coffee mugs, but I love pretty coffee mugs!

7. Out of all the game shows (past and present), which would you want to be a participant on and play?

Fear Factor! Unless the challenge had something to do with spiders, I’d rock that show. Plus I have a slight crush on Joe Rogan, even though his UFC commentary is like listening to Captain Obvious.

8. If you could play the lead role in any movie that’s already been made, which movie would you pick?

Avatar, because I think I have the hissing thing they do mastered. Or The Notebook, because it’s such an amazing story.

9. Name 5 things on your bucket list (things you want to do before you die).

  1. Skydive (I may be doing that this year actually!)
  2. Travel over an ocean
  3. Visit China (This doesn’t count for #2)
  4. Have children
  5. Drive a fast and fancy car

10.  Which one of your birthdays was the best? What did you do that day?

I can’t remember how old I turned, but it was when my grandma was taking care of my brother and I while my mom was ill. She planned a surprise party for me with four of my friends and even filled my room with balloons after I went to sleep. It was really awesome and special.

:)

Ten on Tuesday

Here’s another lovely Ten on Tuesday brought to you by Roots and Rings!

1. Fill in the blank. Sometimes I wish my life was more ______.

Adventurous!

2. How do you cure the hiccups?

Drink water upside-down!

3. What are three of your favorite indulgences?

  • King Crab with garlic butter. Mmm …
  • Vanilla lattes
  • Gourmet cupcakes from Sweet Spot Cupcakes. SO GOOD!

4. Where is the most exotic place you would like to travel to? The most mundane?

Most exotic? Bora Bora! Most mundane? I have no idea … probably Fort St. John to see my bestest friend and her baby that’s due in March.

5. Does having your time planned out stress you or relax you?

It depends on how much I have to do in one day, but I like knowing what I have to do and when I have to have it done by. Perhaps it stressed me out less?

6. What are your favourite fabrics to wear?

Cotton. Breathable, lovely cotton!

7. Do you sleep through the night?

Like RIGHT through the night? Mostly. Usually I wake up in the middle of it to go pee.

8. When you were younger, what did you think you would be doing at this age? How close is that to what you are doing?

I wanted to be a veterinarian when I was little, so I’d say what I do now isn’t even close!

9. What has surprised you most about growing up?

Life isn’t perfect, but you have to make the best of it. “That which does not kill me shall only make me stronger.”

10. Are you good at keeping secrets?

I can be. Except when it’s gifts I’m giving Kyle. He sucks the truth out of me because he hates being surprised! That and if it’s something REALLY good, I usually end up telling him because I get to excited, like when I bought him Canucks tickets in September. I was going to save them until our anniversary in November, but I got too excited. *sigh*

Ten on Tuesday

Here’s another Ten on Tuesday brought to you by Roots and Rings!

1. Favorite book(s) when you were a child and why?
I loved James and the Giant Peach.

2. First “grown-up” book you remember reading (i.e. written for adolescents or with adult themes, such as The Outsiders or Catcher in the Rye).
Probably The Outsiders! I read it in Grade 8 English. After that, it was Animal Farm, the Lord of the Flies.

3. Favourite movie that came from a book (even if you didn’t read the book and just love the movie).
Definitely Marley & Me. The book made me cry and the movie made me cry harder. I also loved The Notebook, but I never read the book.

4. Movie that you loved so much that you WISHED there was a book out so that you could find out more about the movie.
I really don’t know … Rambo? Haha. Like, why is he so angry and bitter anyway?

5. Worst book you’ve ever read?
This book I selected for my Public Relations class. It sounded good, but as they say “never judge a book by its cover!” We had to do a 10-minute book chat, in which all I said was “This was awful, boring and to be honest, I didn’t finish it.” Needless to say, I didn’t get a very good mark.

6. Book that everyone raves about that you either a) haven’t read and feel slightly dumb for not having read it or b) have tried to read and hated and so feel slightly dumb that everyone is getting something you don’t.
I have never read a book I wasn’t interested in. I will never read the Twilight series and when Harry Potter first came out I was a little too old to be drawn to it.

7. If you were forced to choose only 3 books that you could read for the rest of your life, which ones would they be? (Or if you were stranded on a desert island, which 3 books would you want there with you?).
If I was on an island I’d bring Marley & Me for a cry, Fruit for a laugh and Pillars of the Earth because it’s been staring at me since November!

8. Name one book that if you could recommend that everyone you know read, what is it?
I really, really enjoyed The Time Traveler’s Wife. I have yet to see the movie but the book was really good once you figured out the time traveling sections.

9. What is your “guilty pleasure” reading?
I love reading Cosmopolitan magazine. I think I’ve bought every issue for the past 5 years or so! Kyle bought me a subscription for Christmas and I’m quite excited for it :) I got my first issue in the mail last week, so really, I only had to wait two weeks after it hit stands.

10. What book (excepting the Bible or other major document of your religion/faith) has changed your outlook on life the most?
I really don’t know. I read “A Long Way Gone” by Ishmael Beah and it was really amazing to read about his time as a child soldier in Sierra Leone.
