Seven Quick Takes

So I figure I’d do 7 Quick Takes today, since I have a zillion + 1 things to say but no desire to write a separate post about each one. Here we go!

~ 1 ~

Our paperwork has all been cleared and Kyle and I are now officially HOMEOWNERS! *insert happy dance here* We take possession on September 3rd, so that gives us about a month do organize, pack and shop for things our little home will need. I’m a little excited about the shopping part, not going to lie! I have a feeling the month is going to either drag on forever or go by quickly. I can’t figure it out! The paperwork seemed to take forever.

~2~

I was able to cross off another thing to do on my 96 in 1096 list yesterday: Play a team sport! Kyle broke his finger back in June and he had just signed up to play slo-pitch in a beer league with the Roommate. Instead of taking back his sign-up fee, I took his place! The last game was last night, and I’m kind of going to miss playing! I’ll definitely see about signing up again next season.

~3~

One of my BFF’s just broke up with her boyfriend – again – for the zillionth time. (Okay, maybe the 8th time?) I wish I could just tell her that the relationship is poisonous, but I just can’t. The killer thing? They JUST moved in together for the 2nd time (The last time they moved in together they broke up too) AND they signed a lease on the apartment. Ugh. I can’t keep up with that girl. I may sound like a horrible friend, but I’ve stopped caring when they break up. I can’t only sympathize for someone so many times when it’s the same guy. After a certain point, you’d think it’d be common sense not to pursuit the relationship again. Am I wrong for not caring anymore?

Random post-draft update: Apparently they’re not broken up? I’m confused … I give up. I haven’t dealt with something this dramatic ever. Not even in high school. But I went to a boring (for the most part) high school. Moving on …

Oh! Because I’m getting my own house, you know what that means? I don’t have to deal with Edith anymore! Yay! Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to go buy the vacuum of my dreams. Okay, maybe not of my dreams, because I’d loooove a Dyson vacuum, but I can’t spend $600 on a vacuum. But there’s a decent one on sale at Wal-Mart for $80, so that’ll do! Goodbye Edith! I won’t miss you!

~5~

I subscribe to Cosmopolitan and it  took FOREVER for my magazine to get here this month. I seriously thought that it wasn’t going to be delivered and was 100% ready to write a “What the Hell??” email to Hearst Magazines and demand an explanation. THEN! My book that I ordered, “Stay” by Allie Larkin, arrived and I was super stoked since it only took 3 days to get here. (Gotta love XpressPost!) I was so distracted by the quick arrival of my book that I didn’t even notice that my magazine was tucked under the book in my mailbox. Woo! It was like Christmas.

~6~

I have my first full day off of work since Canada Day tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited! I had originally asked for the whole weekend off to go to Vancouver for a family reunion (on my Dad’s side of the family) but my boss only gave me one flippin’ day. Since I can’t go to Vancouver and back in one day (and because the family dinner is on Sunday) I’m just going to enjoy the day. Kyle and I are thinking about taking the dogs for a hike, or maybe to the dog beach.  As long as I enjoy the day! Maybe we’ll celebrate buying a house finally since the paperwork is done.

~7~

Kamloops had its first close-call wildfire the other day and it was scary-close to burning down homes. People were put on evacuation notice (but not actually evacuated). It seems to be a common occurrence in B.C. during the summer, and it shouldn’t be. The majority of the time the fires are started by people being careless – a discarded cigarette butt out a window or an unattended campfire. There’s now a campfire ban in the Kamloops area, two weeks before we’re suppose to go camping, but if that means I’m not going to accidentally burn the city down, I’m okay with that!

Have an awesome weekend guys!

Ten on Tuesday

1. How do you take your coffee on an average day? How do you like your coffee if you’re spluging?

I take it in a giant mug with two tablespoons of sugar and loads of  International Delight creamo (Vanilla Toffee Caramel!) Sometimes I think it’s the sugar that’s driving me through the day, not the caffeine! If I’m splurging, I’ll grab a grande vanilla latte or caramel macchiato (iced or hot) from Starbucks.

2. What is your genre of books to read?

I read a lot of chick-lit, followed by the un-lifelike romantic happenings of Nicholas Sparks. I’m not into much else.

3. Where do you want to retire, if you could go anywhere?

I’ll pick something stereotypical, like Palm Springs. That’s where my great grandparents went and they loved it.

4. The 17-year-old you is told to write a 10-minute speech. What topic would you have picked?

“Why You Should Not Fall In Love With Fictional Vampires”

5. What word describes you best?

Ninja. (I really have no idea. I’m horrible at describing myself.)

6. What is the next “event” that you are looking forward to? (ex.: vacation, moving, date, job change, etc)

I’m going camping in a couple weeks so I’m stoked on that, and then I’m MOOOOVINNNGGG! :D

7. Do you like to discuss controversial topics or do you prefer to avoid those types of conversations?

It depends on who I’m talking to. I don’t mind about talking about controversial topics, but if a person can’t accept my point of view and only sees their own as the “right” way, I can’t handle it. I’m very much a “both sides of the spectrum” sort of person.

8. Would you rather add 4 free hours to each day, or add 1 extra day to the week?

As long as it was a day where I don’t have to work, I’d take the 1 extra day. I kill for days off.

9. If you created a sports team; what would your colors and mascot be?

It would be called the Karasaurus’. The mascot would maybe be a T-Rex or a velicoraptor, and the colours would be green and yellow. Rawr!

10. If you had to be a teacher, what subject would you teach?

Spelling and Grammar 101. Or something along the lines of that. I’d teach kids how annoying it is when you can’t understand what they’re writing on the Internet. “U r so fking awesum. wnt 2 d8? omg, wtf?” Yeah, I’m not down with cryptic words.

Hey You! Did you enter my super awesome giveaway yet? You probably should. Hey Look! I’ll even provide a quick & dirty link to it right here. Check it out, you won’t be sorry!

Now back to your regular programming:

*****************************************

1. Cell Phone

My cell phone carrier is Bell Mobility. Why? Because Telus is horrible and Rogers don’t have a lot of service coverage. Just say no to dead zones! My actual phone is an LG Rumour because when it first came out I fell in lurv with its slide-out full QWERTY keyboard. Now all I want is a Blackberry. One year to go on the contract!

2. Email

Gmail, because it’s amazing with all its features. iGoogle is my hero at work.

3. Toothpaste

Colgate Sensitive with Gentle Whitening. I have horrible sensitive teeth and like to try and keep my grill white and shiny. And it tastes good. My last toothpaste was gritty and gross.

4. Car

My car is a Ford Focus ZX5. I love the look of them and it’s a zippy, fun car to drive! Bonus points for it being yellow too.

5. Writing Utensil
I don’t really use a specific brand of writing utensil. The pen in my wallet is my favourite pen but I never use it because I’m afraid of losing it or someone taking it! It’s a Pentel EnerGel. I have no idea how I acquired it, but I think I took it from my last job, lol.

6. Lotion

Right now my favourite lotion is Lemon Vanilla from Bath & Body Works. (Which reminds me, have you entered my giveaway yet? Do it HERE! You’ll love it!)

7. Interior Paint

I’ve never painted anything before, so I’m going to take a Pass on this question. Next!

8. Soda/Drink

I drink 7-Up because Pepsi is better than Coca Cola and 7-Up is owned by PepsiCo. And it tastes good with some vodka in it. Huzzah!

9. Laundry Detergent

We use Cheer liquid detergent. It smells good and makes our laundry nice and soft :)

10. Medicine

You have to be more specific that just “Medicine!” For aches and pains we use Advil. Why? I have no idea. Ibuprofen is better than acetaminophen? It sounds like “anvil”? I’ve never actually thought about why we use Advil over Tylenol. Maybe it has something with me being crampy/cranky during ol’ Aunt Flo’s visit.
