Seven Things You May Not Know

I’ve seen this floating around Facebook lately, so I’d thought I’d make a go of it on the blog.

(Actually, I was tagged on Facebook to do it, and I started writing this post as 10 things, but was “tagged” to do seven. So …)

Here’s 7 things you probably don’t know about me:

1) When looking through magazines in waiting rooms, I always flip from the back of the magazine to the front.

2) I hate cooked pineapple, but enjoy fresh pineapple.

3) No matter how warm it is, I always need to sleep under all the blankets in bed. (That includes the comforter and sheets) I need to feel 100% snuggly when I’m in bed.

4) I had awesome vision until I was 25 and I noticed while playing XBox that the dialog was a little fuzzy. I blamed the TV, Kyle blamed my eyes, so I had them checked. Yup – I needed glasses. I now wear contacts most of the time, but can still see fairly well without corrective lenses.

5) The trashiest show I probably watch is America’s Next Top Model. I also watched the first season on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. *shame*

6) For the longest time, I though “euthanasia” was “Youth in Asia.” (It means something SO different when you read it instead of hear it).

7) On my mom’s side of the family, I am the oldest of 18 cousins.

A Day in the Life

I haven’t done a Day in the Life post since last October, so I thought another one was in order since again, SO much has changed since last year! It was fun to read that post and see how much Isla’s schedule has changed.

So here’s the Day in the Life of your’s truly for Tuesday, November 5:

7:00 a.m.
My alarm goes off and I ignore it. I’ve been trying to wake up before Isla so I can enjoy my breakfast and coffee in peace, or at least in as much peace as the dogs will allow it (Whiney little buggers). Then I remember that it’s garbage day, so after 10 minutes of laying there I peel myself out of bed so I can drag the cans to the curb.

7:15 a.m.
I hear Isla starting to wake up. Time to eat my breakfast as fast as I can. At least the coffee is ready.

7:50 a.m.
I get Isla up out of bed. She’s loves to just lay there in her crib and chat to me before letting actually pick her up so I can change her diaper. After she’s changed, I get her breakfast going – raisin toast and raspberries (her favourite fruit by far). I also feed the dogs, who have been giving me “the eyes” since I woke up. While everyone eats I read blogs and drink my coffee.

Breakfast of champs! Also note that Campbell knows where food comes from and can always be found at Isla's side during her meals.

8:10 a.m.
Isla is finished her breakfast, so we go and watch the news and wait for Daddy to come home from work.

8:40 a.m.
Kyle’s home from work, tired, but home! Isla tells him about her evening.

10 a.m.
I put Isla down for a nap, and Kyle and I hop in the shower. At 10:30, she’s still awake, but falls asleep. I use the time to groom Daphne – She desperately needs her nails to be cut and her fur brushed. After about 45 minutes, I’m done, and Daph is beautiful. I’ll probably have to brush her one more time since she was starting to get a little bitchy at the end.

11:45 a.m.
Isla is starting to wake up from her nap, so I get her lunch together. Pasta and oranges! I swear this kid loves food a little too much. By noon she’s up and dressed, and we sit down and have lunch together. (Pasta for me as well, but a microwave meal – don’t judge.)

2:30 p.m.
After lounging around on the couch after lunch, I put Isla down to see if she’ll have an afternoon nap. She was acting a little grumpy for no apparent reason, so a little “alone” time for her wasn’t going to hurt. After I put her down, I gave Campbell a bath. Ugh. He jumped out of the bathtub only once, which is a win in my books. Now he’s smelling pretty!

3:30 p.m.
Isla still hasn’t fallen asleep, so I go in her room, change her diaper and “remind” her that it’s time for a nap. Instead of falling asleep, she throws a fit, so it looks like there’s no afternoon nap today.

4:15 p.m.
Kyle volunteers to make dinner, which is music to my ears. It’s ready just after 5 p.m., so we all eat together.

6 p.m.
We’re done dinner and the dishes – just in time to turn on the hockey game!

8 p.m.
The effects of no afternoon nap are starting to show their symptoms and Isla is started to get particularly grumpy. We begin our bedtime routine: brushing teeth, putting on PJ’s, having a sip of water, reading a book, and into bed. She fell asleep while I was reading “The Places You’ll Go,” but I finished it anyway and put her down into her crib.

8:20 p.m.
Isla’s in bed, and I can now join Kyle on the couch for the rest of the hockey game. The Canucks ended up losing in a shoot out. Oh well.

9 p.m.
Kyle’s ready for bed since he hasn’t slept since the day before. (Night shift really knows how to mess with you.) Instead of going to bed, he 1/2 watches Monday’s episode of The Voice with me. I actually skipped through a couple of the performances because they were HORRIBLE. My favourites so far? Cole on Team Blake and James on Team Adam. I’ve yet to watch Tuesday’s episode, so I won’t decide on Christina or Cee Lo’s teams quite yet.

10:20 p.m.
Thanks to the wonderful invention of the PVR, I’m done watching The Voice and we decide to go to bed. I tuck Isla in and call it a night!

I would say that’s a pretty average day for us, minus the dog grooming part!

What does an average day in your life look like?

Listy Friday

– About a month ago I was asked to do some freelance writing and it’s just been piling on every since!  (Thus why I haven’t been kicking around the ol’ blog for the past two weeks). I’m finally done all of my assignments, and it felt great to be writing again and having that looming deadline over my head. I missed that feeling! Oh, and there’s the money that’s great too. It will really help Kyle and I’s Las Vegas fund for November!

– Earlier this week I took my very first yoga class! I have never really done yoga, other than Jillian Michael’s Yoga Meltdown DVD, which I found to be just a little too intense for my liking. Anyway, there’s about 15 people in the class and so far, I really like it! The instructor is super laid back, and I love how she doesn’t put pressure on our poses to be perfect. My legs were killing me the next day, that’s for sure. So many unused muscles after almost two years of not doing anything!

– On Sunday I got a text from one of my old softball teammates asking me if I’d be able to go play that evening. I wasn’t able to play the first game, but I managed to get my mom to watch Isla so I could play in the second game. I loved getting out on the field again, and I’ll be going out again for the next couple weeks as well until the end of the season. (Oh, and yoga after an evening of softball is not particularily a good idea!)

– Isla is in full-blown walking mode! Unless there’s something she REALLY wants in a hurry, she just gets up and walks everywhere she pleases. It’s so unbelievable that she’s almost 15 months old now. She’s also chatting away to herself, and loves to wave to everyone from our living room window. This summer has been so amazing getting to explore with her; I can’t wait for Christmas and even next summer. It’s going to be amazing!

– Last week Kyle and I went golfing together for the first time since I was pregnant with Isla. We’ve been wanting to go all summer but either weather or other conflicting issues have prevented us from going. Finally, we were able to plan it with Kyle’s mom to watch Isla, so we went last Thursday. And, of course, after the first hole, I went to sit in the golf cart and there must’ve been a wasp on the seat that I didn’t see, because I got stung right in the leg. It hurt like hell! Ironically enough, I had just received my BzzAgent Claritin Liquid Capsule kit, so I had taken an allergy pill to fend off the pollen that may be in the air. As it turns out, I really did need an allergy pill to cut back on the swelling from my sting! The swelling didn’t get too bad, and even though it hurt for the rest of the 17 holes, I managed to finish our round of golf AND beat Kyle. Woo!

– Last weekend my mom and I went to Ashcroft to visit my grandpa and to see the memorial bench that had been installed for my grandma across the street from his house. See, they built their house right across the street from the soccer fields there, and every spring when we played soccer, my grandma could watch us play from her kitchen window. When she passed, my grandpa talked to the public works people and had a bench put on the hill above the park in her memory. It was really nice to see it finally in place, as it was something he thought of doing last summer.

– Other than freelancing, Isla, and everything else going on, I’m really happy with where I’m at in life. I feel I have a great balance of both business, through work and Isla, and “me” time. I’ve been making time to relax, such as playing ball and meeting friends for coffee. Of course, it’s wonderful to have such a great husband and family to watch Isla when I need to just have that “me” time. I really don’t know what I’d do without them!
