Happy Mother’s Day!

I’m so lucky to have such an amazing little girl to be a mom for – Isla sure has made motherhood pretty easy on me se far! And, of course, I wouldn’t be the mom I am without learning from my own! In fact, on Friday I won a radio contest that was asking people “How you’re turning into your mother.” I like to think that I’ve adopted all of her great advice and parenting skills, even if they may have come with some silly quirks (just ask Kyle!).

This morning Kyle took the three moms in his life (plus Isla) out for some delicious brunch (save his soul). It was a lot of fun and I’m pretty lucky to have some amazing ladies in my life.

So Happy Mother’s Day to all you lovely mammas and mammas-to-be out there! I hope you enjoyed your day – You deserve it!

It’s that day of the year again

Oooh, Valentine’s Day. It seems that people either love or hate it.

I’ve said it before on the blog that I’m just kind of “Meh” about the day. I’m not an overly romantic person and find a lot of V-Day gestures to be cheesy. Of course, Kyle always makes a hypocrite out of me when he surprises me with silly little things like massage gift certificates, so I won’t say I don’t appreciate his gestures. We just don’t go “all out” for the day. Dinners at restaurants are always overpriced and typical (Steak! Lobster! Wine! Chocolate cake!), and flowers are stupidly overpriced. ($30 for a dozen roses? Yeah, I don’t think so!) I honestly thing Valentine’s Day is a businesses way to make up for the mid-winter consumer slump.

I don’t think that there should be a certain day of the year set aside for your S.O. to express his or her undying love for you. Shouldn’t they do it every day of the year? I know damn well how much my husband loves me and he doesn’t have to do anything outrageous to prove anything more. Also? It’s a stupid holiday for single people to wallow in their singleness. Okay, so you don’t have someone to share the day with – so what? They should be glad that they don’t have to spend an exuberant amount of money on silly little things.

Anyway – That’s it for my annual Valentine’s Day rant. I hope you all have an amazing day regardless!

Christmas Recap

I know I’m a little late on the whole “Christmas Recap” blog post, but here it is in bullet form:

– We went to my mom’s Christmas Eve for ham dinner and to open presents. Isla was SPOILED rotten and we had a jolly good time.

– Christmas morning was laid back at home with just Kyle, Isla and I. We opened our presents and stockings and again, Isla was SPOILED. Kyle had to work that night, so Isla and I went down to my mom’s for a light turkey dinner.

– On Saturday, Kyle and I hosted a big family dinner with both his and my family. There were 12 of us all together for dinner and it was a great hit. Everyone seemed to have a good time and who got spoiled? Oh, that’d be Isla again!

– Kyle spoiled me with  my Macbook back in November, but he also got me a scope for my .22 rifle. I got him a new shirt, a wallet and a target for his .22 .(Yeah, we’re rednecks that way!) I don’t even know where to start when it comes to Isla’s presents! She got a “TV” for her crib (a Fischer Price musical thing with lights and sounds), SO MANY CLOTHES, books, and a cool little walker with a removable interactive toy. I’m sure I’m missing something, but again – SPOILED!

– It seemed to go by so fast this year. I’ve already taken down my decorations. Next year we hope to keep things lower key, maybe a dinner for just the three of us for Christmas. We’ll see what happens.

Now for some pictures:

Hope you had a very Merry Christmas!
